Ayira’s hooves made a slight crunching sound on the crusted snow. Her tail twitched in irritation. She was lost. Not just a little bit either. Her coat matching the dirt and snow that covered the hill. She took a breath and was relieved not to see her breath. Trying to take a moment to think how she ended up in this mess she looked around. Looking around at the desolate land she was struck by a sense of wonder. The land was wild and free, untamed by the hands of humans or trails of azrein. It was magnificent. The sight calmed her greatly. A small snort escaped her as she allowed a smile to spread on her face. Taking a deep breath the brown and white mare reared back and plunged forward in a full gallop. So what if it was cold? So what if she was gone from all the other members of her pack? She was free and that was all she needed.

Eira as usual was outside frolicking around the snow covered hill tops of the herd lands in which she lived. Happily she pranced enjoying the cold and the feel of the snow beneath her hooves. Giddy she began to dance, losing herself in the moment. Not paying attention to where she was going she danced and moved about without care or fear, for no other azrein or any humans ventured this far into the herd lands. The fierce cold and snow kept them away much to her delight.

(Tis ok. I'm sorry I'm late school ate me)

Spying some purple Ayira slowed down to a trot. There was a surprise she found herself staring at some strange looking mare. There was something around her neck and a horn extruding from her head. Ayira had seen deer and antelope, but never on another Azrein. She circled to the left trying to figure out what the strange Azrein was doing out in the middle of now where. Ayira took a quick look around for any members of herd. Not noticing any Ayira keep circling to the left far enough out that she couldn’t really make out any specifics of the other Azrien and maybe if she was lucky the other Azrein would ignore her.

Dancing around the snow covered hill top, Eira was lost in the feel of the snow and cold. Giggling to herself she danced in a circle with her eyes closed, which caused her back hooves to slip. Startled she opened her eyes as she tried to regain her balance. Struggling she was able to right herself before she fell, breathing hard she stood looking around.

A flash of something dark and light caught her attention. "What was that?" she thought. "I could have sworn I saw another azrein. Odd, the near fall is addling my brain" she muttered. Lowering her head she tried to relax and become happy as she was a few moments ago.

Keeping in tune with her circling pattern Ayira soon found herself behind the other Azrein. Approaching slowly from behind she tried her best to approach making as little sound as possible. Her hooves crunched softly on the crisp snow. Hopefully the other azrein was too distracted to hear. The brown mare’s mane was as wild as ever and picked the worst times to obscure her vision. Not daring to flip it and cause unwarranted attention do to the motion she crept along. The other Azrein didn’t have a white coat as Ayrira first suspected. It was a purple and white with something on her flanks. Only having a posterior prospective Ayrira wasn’t sure what it was exactly.

Listening to the sounds of the hilltop, the feel of the cold wind biting into her body and under her hooves, Eira was able to get her breathing under control. Deciding not to allow the near fall to ruin her day she raised her head and looked around. The day was so beautiful, it was bright but cold. The snow glistened as if they were diamonds, the contrasting color of the dark brown to light brown of the land beneath the snow looked lovely. The tree that was against one part of the hill was partially covered and looked as if it was happy that way. Sighing in contentment, Eira decided to wander around to see if she could find out what the flash of color she saw was. It intrigued her, if it was another azrein why was he or she here? Usually none approached her lands, it was to cold for most.

Lost in thought she began to move towards the tree.

Freezing for a moment when the other mare started to move, Ayira wondered if she was caught already. Thankfully this wasn’t the case. Moving as in sync as possible with the white-purple mare Ayira wondered what the other mare was after. She seemed to be moving toward a tree. Was there a purpose to it? Feeling a tickle in her nose she desperately held back a sneeze. A small sound escaped her letting her know that the coming noise was inevitable. She stopped moving and bobbed head a few times before the sneeze came. It was loud and the pitch was just right that Ayira was annoyed by her own sneeze. She had a very cross look on her face as she looked up at the other mare knowing the game was up. Now how was she going to deal with this mare. What was she to say? It was hard enough to deal with other members of Azrein she knew, ones she didn’t made her uneasy.

Wandering off towards the tree Eira was stunned when she heard a noise, it was one she had not heard since she was a foal. Looking up she scanned the land around her looking for the source of the sound. Slowly she turned looking as she did so, she located the source of the sound and the flash of color she saw earlier. Standing not to far behind her was a mare of brown and white coloring and was looking like she was very agitated at something. Curious Eira stared trying to think of what to say.

Out of habit, Eira pawed the ground with her front foreleg as she did when she was nervous.

Mistaking the gesture for one of a more unfriendly nature Ayira tensed and lowered her head. If the other mare was going to start a fight she didn’t want to be in a postion to catch that sharp looking horn to the throat. She traveled slowly of the to the right keeping her eyes on the strange Azrein for any other signs of aggression. Ayira didn’t want to start a fight she didn’t know if she could win. After all Ayira could fight but knew she wasn’t as strong as many other Azrein out in the world. She continued to stare at the other mare wondering what to do. A warning growl escaped her throat.

(She's clueless..cautious and clueless. *headdesk*)

Watching the mare Eira realized she was apprehensive suddenly. Looking down Eira realized why. Stilling her leg, she slowly moved a little to get more comfortable and lowered her head slightly.

"Hello, sorry but you startled me" she said in a even but soft tone. "I do not get many visitors to my lands and when I saw you I was caught off guard" "Why are you here?" she asked.

As Eira waited the mare's reply she studied her. She was a lovely color and she seemed to be abit unsure or that could be due to how the nervousness was perceived. Trying to get a read on the mare she didn't wish to upset her so Eira did not stare to long but allowed her gaze to wander abit and come back to rest on her again before wandering again.

Ayira started her? Well wasn’t that just fun. Still the other mare didn’t seem too intent on doing any fighting. That put Ayira at ease somewhat. She stopped her growling and raised her head up so she didn’t have to look up from under her mane. She stared brazenly at the other mare trying to figure her out. She watched as the mare’s eyes looked at her then left. It was odd. Was the other mare scared at all. It would explain the apology as well. “Your lands?” Ayira smiled and looked at the frozen lands then back to the mare. “The land seems free to me. I need no reason to be here.” Still Ayira wasn’t overly gruff with her tone or voice. It was a naturally growling voice, but her expression while saying such things made her less intimidating.

Eira had thought her reading of the mare was right but now listening to her choice of words and tone it was obvious she wasn't correct. She seemed almost intimidating or trying to be.

"Yes these are my lands, I have lived here and so therefore I claim as mine" she said in a brassy tone. "You dare to come here and challenge my right to my lands?" she said in a very deep sassy tone. Staring at her unflinchingly Eira tried to get a new read on her but was finding it difficult. Her tone was very different from her facial expressions.

“It seems to me that the only land you can claim is the land under your feet. The rest of this land is free.” Ayira tried and failed to hide her smile. She was nervous about getting into a fight or even possibility of one; that made her smile out of reflex. Still nerves never stopped her attitude. Her gravely growling voice carried well in this desolate land. “Why would I challenge you? This place isn’t my home. I’m just passing though.” She took a quick side step and kept her eyes on the mare. In truth she was bothered by the fact the purple and white Azrein got sassy with her. With that horn as a weapon it didn’t surprise her though. Still to go from apologetic to challenging. There was something wrong with the other mare. The fact her voice was the cause for the change was lost on Ayira.

"Actually I can claim this land as mine since I am the only azrein that resides in this area" she said in a even tone. "I do not mind the occassional passerby but I prefer to be left to my solitude and the coldness" she said.

Lifting her gaze she stared right at the other mare trying to figure her out, she seemed one moment friendly the next challenging. "What is this mare's true intentions?" she thought. Not flinching in her gaze nor her stance she awaited the mare's response.

“This mare? This mare has a name. Ayira.” Snorting Ayira was offended. “As for my intention it’s to be free and travel wherever my hooves take me. Keep your solitude and your cold, though I still say the land is freer than you or any other Azrein give credit to.”

Keeping the way she was going before while moving around the mare Ayira kept her eyes on the other mare as well as her distance. “Now I tire of being greeted with a voice like soft snow that so quickly turns to hard ice, when I have done so harm. I will be leaving.” She didn’t bother to explain that she was referring to the way the other mare had treated her. If the other Azrein couldn’t figure it out then she was as thick as a stone.
