Maansi lay in the dirt listening the crickets chirping. She knew she should be hunting with the other's, but currently she had no interest in their company. She flicked her tail in a lazy fashion watching the crickets scatter before her eyes roamed skyward.
She did not see him anymore, the one who intrigued her so, who brought her into the pride. He had been king, but now it seemed he had simply disappeared. Maansi was thinking it might be time to move on, she had currently learned all she thought she could from her current home and well she needed something different, anything really.
Her ears swiveled, but she heard nothing out of the ordinary, so her eyes drifted shut and she started to fall asleep. She was tucked into the bottom of a tree whose roots formed a small hiding space so she did not think she would be spotted, she lay back far enough.
Thunder rolled across the savannah, but Maansi paid no attention to the sure promise of raining, yawning and curling up to sleep.

Madi'molôi had little care for staying in one place for very long. There was always someone coming in, demanding something, wanting something. It was just easier to move and enjoy one's self. He'd settle down some other time. Even with the thunder behind him, he didn't pay much mind to it, thinking that if anything, it would be 'refreshing'. Looking around there wasn't much that interested him so much as there were things that were just enjoyable to look at for the sake of looking. Like a potential hole for some small animal. A nice snack perhaps. You never knew your luck after all.
As he got closer, he froze as a stray branch cracked under his weight. Damn. He kept still, hoping that he'd not alerted anything to the point of suspicion.

Maansi ears perked up at the snapped branch, she'd been just about sleep, but she wouldn't allow herself to sleep deeply enough to be caught lying around on the job. She cracked her eyes open scanning the ground.
"Whose there," she said plainly, not really feeling up for a game at the moment, not especially if it was a fellow pride mate.
She sat up her eyes looking out into the darkness, glowing from the small alcove as she looked out into the grasses. She didn't know how well she could be seen, but she could certainly see the other. She arched a brow at the still figure, not sure what to make of him.
"You tread very close to demon territory," she gave a clear warning.

Well dang. No small thing to snack on late at night it seemed. But, company was always welcome, even if they might try to chase him off. Wouldn't be the first time, or the last time. In the distance the thunder boomed. It might begin to rain soon, and... maybe he would need to find shelter. Maybe. It sounded like a female, but he couldn't see her very well from her spot, so, Madi simply sat where he was, tail flicking slightly.
"I don't really pay much mind to territories. Enough to stay out of a majority of the trouble at least. Not like the land is going anywhere, just myself." Shaking out his mane he squinted trying to get a look at her. "Mind coming out of there or will I need to go to you?"

Maansi shook her at the other's words. If only he knew what could happen if he was heard by the wrong lion. "You should pay more attention to them. Well at the very least this terriority. It's quite dangerous for one of you coloring, of course you would not know that."
Maansi stepped out of her hiding spot, not seeing any point in keep herself hidden. The male before her was obviously not a demon and seemed to mean her no harm.
"Good evening," she said politely. "It's nice to meet you. I am Maansi Vani of the demon pride, but not originally. If I were you I would not stay around this area for too long. I have seen them more than once makes slaves of your kind. They are far larger lions that you."
A friendly greeting, not at all, but it was polite and Maansi was being truthful. She hadn't been born into the pride so she shared none of their prejudice and had no desire to start sharing them.

Madi shook out his mane again, seeming undisturbed, or at least not very. The idea of being enslaved was not promising. He'd rather like to avoid such a thing. "I'll keep an ear out for them. Being stuck under someone's paw doesn't really appeal to me very much." Stretching out he gave a brief yawn. The female wasn't attacking him or making demands, so, he was good so far, but hey, he didn't know, maybe it was a trap. Looking around he smelled at the air, not catching anything in the wind.
"Thank you for the warning though. Next time I'll try to come by with a different skin." He grinned best he could. "My name is Madi'molôi, and I have no pride. Never had, probably never will. In any event, think I'd be safe for the night, the thunderstorm enough of a deterrent to keep them from slave hunting or whatever it is they do?"

Maansi nodded and felt somewhat relieved. She had lived among them for sometime and had seen slaves who hadn't minded slavery at all and did very well, but she had also seen 'owner' who were anything, but kind so she wasn't about to send someone into slavery. She didn't believe in it, be she apart of the pride or not.
"You are welcome. I am not originally of the pride and I do not believe in everything they stand for, but I was intrigued by him, though he seems to have disappeared. The prince turned king that is."
She looked up at the sky as lightening struck and grinned, "they are not near here. They've gone off to hunt. Ive not interest tonight, I do not think rain will have them take there leave, but you will be fine for the night."
"Either way it is nice to meet you Madi'molôi. You are lucky to have no pride, but at the same time, they aren't so bad. I do miss sleeping out under the open stars and listening to the night all on my own, knowing i wouldn't be disturbed."

"If you don't believe in it all... why stay and support it? Seems a bit counter productive, but hey, part of why I don't have one I guess." He rolled his shoulder in a half shrug. "I'm too independent? It's a hard life certainly, but it's less restrictive, and I needn't worry about another male accusing me of something or other, or a female telling me I'm being lazy." A smile. "Even if I am. Its just nicer not to hear it all the time."
Laying down in the dirt, he rolled onto his back. He was calm, unafraid- or just blindly trusting. "Then come and sleep out under the stars, I mean, I did disturb you I guess, but sleeping in a tree's roots is hardly good for prime star gazing." He blew at the tuff of fur over his eye. "And call me Madi. And would it be alright if I called you Maansi?"

"Love makes you do strange things. Frankly it makes you do stupid things, but that all over now and I will leave. I am just not sure when, this has after all been my home for sometime and the demons are truly intriguing. I also wanted to know about the volcano. I did have the calling at one time, but now it more a curiosity and I'm told I won't make it out with just curiosity."
She laughed lightly at Madi, "yes you are right. I am certain I will hear it tonight for not joining the hunt as I was suppose to."
She watched him roll over and when he told her to come sleep out under the stars. "No it isn't the best for stargazing, but neither is rain pouring from the sky which think is heading straight for us even if it hasn't reached us yet and you are welcome to call me Maansi if that is what you prefer."
She lay down in the grass and looked up at the sky sighing for a moment as she remembed freer days.

He nodded, granted it was odd, nodding while laying back, but it was still a nod. "Love is complicated. But also simple. You don't have explain much beyond that. And for demons being interesting... If they don't like my fur colors and would capture me for it I think I'm good staying ignorant of them. Or at least out of their way." His tail flicked as flies came over, one landing on his nose. Damn bugs.
Swatting it away he went on. "The cloud gazing. Both are changing and even if it does rain, the worst is you catch a cold because you don't know your own limits." He motioned over to her tree. "We can always hide anyway, and with quick bath would get rid of any lingering scent, or you could tell them you chased off some rouge male who was out looking for gazelle." One lion looked at the other. "But if you don't mind me asking, what really keeps you from leaving right now? If no one knows you are here... will they chase you down? Seems like a snails crawl to freedom to stay, even if wanting to know more."

Maansi laughed, " you have a very nonchalant wiseness about you. It is a refreshing change of pace. It is nice to have someone around who sees things differently. I think maybe I have lost sight of myself a little, in my pursuit to know them."
A smile spread across her maw as she gazed up at the clouds laughing once again at the words Madi spoke and the truth of them. "I do not think I would catch a cold and just as you said we could hide. I was just taking cover over there was I not?"
She blinked at him when he asked his next question, but she answered truthfully seeing no reason not to, "I feel if I leave I will miss out on something important or amazing that I should know and up until recently I was waiting for him, but when I really think on it there isn't truly anything keeping me here. If I leave they may look for me, but chances are they won't."
She looked to the other and with certainty she said, "I should leave. I should leave in the morning while they sleep." She spoke out loud to the air more so than him, maybe she just need a push in the right direction, a reminder that there was a world outside the demon pride.

He laughed, rolling back onto his stomach. "Don't think me wise, more like- accepting. I mean, I just said a while ago I knew pretty much nothing about your pride or what they do." He swat at the bugs flying at his nose again. Ah they'd be gone soon enough with the rain. "What is more important, knowledge, happiness, or life? I like to think they're all equally important. If you lack in one, it starts to drain the others." His ear twitched as the roll of thunder was closer. It wouldn't be very long now until the rain came by the drops rolling in the distance.
"It'll be morning by the time the rain stops." Getting up he stretched out. "Go where your paws take you, do as you can." A grin. "You could go right now even, I came in and they never saw me. Who's to say they'll spy two wandering lions on the fringes, moving away?"

Maansi shook her head, "I will not call you wise if you do not wish it, but I do not think knowing many things makes you particularly wise. I myself know many things, but I am not necessarily wise."
She thought quiet on his next question and before she even answered if seemed he had spoken again. Which only made her frown as now the questions ran rampant across her mind. She really did not truly think it would be as big a deal as she was making into. She rose looking at Madi.
"For me knowledge is life and happiness, the more I can find out the happier I will be. I'm not learning much here anymore and I am even though I say otherwise I am holding onto something that isn't here anymore, so Madi I believe you are right. I am not going to wait for morning, I think I will leave right now."
She shook out her fur and stretched feeling invigorated, she hadn't really felt that in a while. She knew for some reason, one day she would come back, but currently she needed to leave.
"Madi. I am really glad to have met you."

Truthfully Madi was half listening at that point, his ears more focused on the sound of the wind and thunder in the distance. But, he didn't miss much. "Only a fool will think themselves wise." Another glance at the storm clouds. Move fast or stay... either way it was going to be a wet night. She was leaving though and- "Well if you're going then why should I be staying?" He smiled. "If you don't mind a traveling companion that is. And pleas don't say it like that." He smile got wider. "You make it sound like we'd never see each other again."

"You are intriguing, very much so. Its refreshing. I have no objections to a travel companion, so lets go or we will end up very wet from the storm that headed our way." She gave a laugh feeling freer that she had in such a long time.
Maansi laughed once more and shook her head, "I assure you I didn't mean it that way," before indicating with the head to follow her. "Come this way. I know a route that fairly quick, we'll find shelter ways down it, but not to overly far."
