Dawn rose against the horizon outside Katarina, filtering through the window and staining the eyes of the dark-skinned man beneath the sheets. He grunted and turned the other way, annoyed morning had to come so soon. He sniffled a bit as he stuffed his head into the pillows, grunting a bit more as he got comfortable.

Suddenly, a drift of smoke wafted close by, tickling the underside of his nose. He suddenly panicked and jumped from his slumber, searching about for the source of fire the smoke came from. Instead, it was from the figure by the window. The middle-aged woman blinked and he calmed at her appearance. There was nothing to worry about after all.

"What, Osmond?" she asked, sucking the end of the cigar she held. "Did I wake you?"

"Oh no-" Osmond said, scratching the back of his head. "You're smoking . . . one of my cigars. The hell, Shinju. You scared me half to death. I thought the room was on fire."

Cetus heartily laughed. "I'm sorry," she apologized, thinning her mouth into an O and smoothing smoke out through the orifice. "You know I've always loved your choice of cigars. Especially Cianwood's classic. You're still buying the same brand?"

"You know they're my favorite." he smiled towards her.

Raising himself to his feet, the sheet shrouding his waist dropped. "It's early, huh?" he asked, stretching.

"Yea and you're quite the early riser," she teased with her glanced focused down . . . past the waist.

Osmond blushed and turned from her, searching for his pants. "Arceus damn it, Shinju, stop being wry."

"Haha, I can't help it." she chuckled. "D'ya know how long its been, hmm?"

"Too damn long," he replied, as he lost his interests in bed romps long ago.

"Exactly, too long." she agreed.

Tilting her head, she analyzed the seams of his back. It always puzzled her how he kept himself in shape, especially with the way he drank. Wouldn't he have a beer belly by now? "What are your plans for today?" she inquired, releasing more smoke to the relative air.

"I don't know." he responded, turning back towards her as he zipped the fly of his pants shut. "I've no work today, took off, but I can't just leave here walking out with a supposed Galactic grunt and prisoner escapee. So I guess I've nothing to do but stay here until night falls." he added.

"Guess I might as well do the same," she agreed. "We're a bit too far up, so I can't climb out the window without being spotted." Her cast her dark teal gaze out the window and eyed the many floors. They were about five stories up. "Guess we're stuck in his hmotel until later tonight."

Osmond quirked a brow. "Hmotel?" he asked, a smile spreading once again on his lips. "The hell?"

"We'll this joint is actually a motel even though the damn thing is called Hotel Morning." she sighed. "So, I might as refer to hmotel just to solve the confusion."

"You're something else," Osmond laughed and sat upon the edge of the bed. "So," he shifted his elbows to his knees and clasped his hands together. "What do we do to pass the time . . . ?"

"Play Pictionary?" Obviously, that wasn't the thought on his mind. She didn't want to cater to him again though. "You already had your fun last night. I'm not doing it again."

He rolled away from her, stuffing his nose beneath the crook of his arm. "Fine than," he mumbled. "I'm going back to sleep."

Cetus huffed and strode towards him. Shifting her hands to her hips, she smoothed the his shirt she was wearing slightly up. "You can't sleep all day," she said firmly in a maternal tone.

Osmond peeked over and stared at the bare skin of her thighs. "And if I do?"

"I won't let you."

"Hmmph-" he sighed as he rolled over once again and returned back to a sitting position. "You've always been stubborn."

"Always?" she asked, cocking her head slightly to the left. "When was I stubborn?"

He quirked a confused eye at her.

"I mean, the last time you saw me."

"Many times." he answered, checking the memories off his fingers. "Like that one time, when we were younger."

"Younger? I'm not exactly old Osmond. You're the one going on forty."

"I mean when we were much younger; when we were children. Y'know, the Pidgey?"

"That eventually grew up to be Deneb Algenubi? What about him?" she asked.

"Even though we agreed to take care of him together, you said it was my duty because I found him."

"What-?" blanched Cetus suddenly, huffing. "I-"

"-never said such a thing!"

Little hands found little hips as a young Shinju glared down a young Osmond, dark teal eyes matched with a huffy frown. Rays sliced through the canopy of the forest like knives mercilessly through flesh. The soft smell of wet earth stilled the atmosphere and the remnants of the before shower slid from the glossy surfaces of wet leaves and bounded to the forest floor beneath. No sound permeated the silence save for the matched breathes of the two children and little chirps within Osmond's palm.

"C'mon, Shinju, I can't take care of him everyday!" Osmond cried, gently shifting the baby Pidgey up towards her. "It's only for the weekends! C'mon! Y'know I'm busy with my dad! You said we can take care of it together!"

"No." she said and turned away, curls bouncing up like sun-dried seaweed. "I never said that. He's your Pokemon. Not mine." Shinju shifted her chin over her shoulder and peeked over towards him. "Do you know why I'm not allowed to have Pokemon?"
PostPosted: Fri Mar 09, 2012 4:27 pm

Osmond slowly shook his head.

"It is because poppa doesn't like Pokemon," she said. "Do you know why he never talks about them? Do you know why this forest is so quiet?" Shinju remained quiet for a moment to emphasize her second question. The only sounds amidst the dense, verdant area was the common sounds of dripping and low wisp of wind through the above treetops. "Poppa drives them out. Repellents . . . fire . . . destroying their homes . . . He does whatever it takes to keep them at bay. That's why I can't take care of it. Poppa might kill it. It's your problem now, not mine."

Shinju began to walk away from Osmond. She had figured with what she said, he'd stay away from now on. She not only denied the Pidgey, which she undoubtedly loved, for her own good but for Osmond's as well. If her poppa discovered him on his estate, he would . . . he would-

"Shinju, wait!" Osmond cried and dashed towards her. Shinju paused from her venture and turned towards him. She thought what she said would keep him away, but, she was wrong. He was running towards her. Why?

Stopping in front of her, the older boy brought one hand upon his knee to steady himself. He breathed warm breaths on the baby Pidgey still nestled in his palm, who fluttered little wings up towards his mouth as if expecting food. Bringing his gaze up, he shot Shinju a glare filled with deep disappointment. It made her heart still in her bosom for the moment. She never wanted to see him make a face like that towards her ever again.

"Why are you always running away?" Osmond shouted at her, glare growing deeper. "You make promises than you run away from them all the time! Why Shinju? Why? You promised we'd take care of him together, but . . . but . . . "

"Osmond, I told you- Poppa will-"

"Who cares what your dad says?" Osmond stomped the floor in front of her which caused her to gasp. "This has nothing to do with him, Shinju! Absolutely nothing! Why can't you figure that out!"

"I- I-"

Osmond's loose hand curled into a fist. "You know what, forget it." he said than turned from her. "If you're going to walk away, so am I." And, like her before, he turned his head over his shoulder. "That also means I don't want to be your friend anymore. Bye, Shinju."

Before little Shinju could even react, Osmond tucked the little, still chirping Pidgey into his bosom and ran. He ran and ran and Shinju, feeling the weight of having lost her only friend, cried and cried.

"Than, you searched me out the following day and apologized." Older Osmond said with a small laugh. "You cried so much that you couldn't speak and I had to be the one to apologize. Haha. You were so stubborn back than and you haven't changed at all."

Shinju rolled her eyes. "Okay, fine, I'm stubborn." she insisted. "But that's the only trait I have that still exists. I'm a changed woman."

"Not really." Osmond replied. "You still only put yourself first, not caring for the wellbeing of others." He said.

"Hmmph! And when did I ever do that in the past?"

"When you ran away from our wedding."

Cetus turned away. "Oh," she commented airily, the simple word leaving her lungs like an exasperated gasp. "I forgot . . . about that. Aha."

Osmond reached over and grabbed her hand. "I hate remembering that day," he murmured low.

"How can you forgive me for what I did?" she asked him, eyes begging for any rational answer. In her mind, any reasoning he gave would be absurd.

"It's because I love you."

Cetus gushed and turned away with a blush. "Yea, yea." she replied, turning back towards the window. Patting around into the pockets of Osmond's shirt, than his suit jacket, she than frowned. "You don't have any more cigars?" she asked.

"Naw, I don't." Osmond replied, rising. "I only keep one stuffed into my breast pocket in case I have the urge. Been trying to quit . . . "

"You, quit? Don't tell me you're trying to quit drinking too?"

"Haha, one step at a time." Osmond stretched his arms around Cetus's waist and hugged her from behind. "Now, can we stop with all the reminiscing? I'm tired of waiting."

"Hey, remember our first kiss?" Cetus giggled, ignoring his second attempt of getting her back in the sack.

Osmond sighed into the nape of her neck. "Didn't I just say-"

"Arceus, you were so bashful back than."

"Yea, yea, it's amazing I grew a backbone. Now can we-"

Cetus's thoughts floated off into a mundane memory of the past. The skirt of a polka dotted dress flitted through the air as the wearer quickly ran across a grassy roll of land. A sharp wind blew and in return, she blew back, her breath heaving from the work and stretching of her leg muscles.

The sun shimmered high in the sky and she brought her eyes to the sky. The dark teal of her eyes sparkled in unison with the sun, relaying the true beauty of the day. Coming to a stop, Shinju fell forward with her palms upon her knees to catch her breath. Above her seated on a hill, Osmond raised a hand.

"Hey!" he called in salutations.

"Oh, hey!" she replied, a smile spreading wide on her face. Digging her feet into the beginning slope of the hill, she slowly marched up the incline. "I didn't think you'd actually be here so early."

"Well, I know how excited you are about today's meteor shower." Osmond said. "So, I thought I'd get here early and set up everything."

Under the shade of the only tree perched upon the hill, Osmond had laid out a red striped blanket. A few books varying from famous astronomers to stars and other heavenly bodies was spread out in the middle to prevent the thin sheet from blowing away due to the harsh winds. A telescope spied upwards towards the stratosphere in front of him, waiting patiently to be used come nightfall.

Shinju glanced with a gleeful smile. "Wow, Osmond, you're really prepared for this, huh?" Another gust of wind smothered itself across the open field, causing a few leaves from the tree above to be cast off from their branches. Shinju's curled locks followed the flow of the tough gale, whipping up behind her. Osmond took the moment to simply stare. Had she always been so pretty . . . ?

"Osmond?" she asked, embarressed. "What's wrong? Is there something on me?"

"Oh, ah, no." he replied, turning away and poking at the thick framed glasses perched on the bridge of his nose. "I was thinking about something."

"Oh, okay. Can I take a seat?"

"Ah, sure!" Umber hands suddenly scrambled the books away from the middle to give her a place to sit. Shinju plopped down afterward, spreading her dress out over her knees.
