So I went to my guitar lesson today feeling quite confident that I got the parts down for Jet's Are You Gonna Be My Girl and Blink 182's All The Small Things...
...then he smacks me in the head with better chord positions, corrected my right-hand position, etc., etc. gonk
Suxx0rz. At least he seems happy enough that I did my homework. heart

I DO sometimes pwn myself. I usually forget how though. I'll be sitting around doodling with the guitar and suddenly belt out some kinda funky riff, smooth line, or crazy piece of guitarwork (relative to what my "norm" is), and then completely forget how I played it sweatdrop

I'm always playing little riffs inbetween posts on Gaia, (I have my guitar on my lap right now) I create something that sounds awesome, then forget what I did. Try to remember it, then just give up and start strumming again.

Black Metal Ist Krieg headbanger29 *cough, easy songs, cough* We really don't need that kind of negativity towards other guild members, man.. Well, they ARE easy songs and I'll admit that. xp What really annoys me is how I didn't get the right chords, positions, etc--more towards "i thought I figured the right chords out but I was proved wrong zomgwtfbbq".

Well if it was just chord POSITIONS you got wrong, so what? I belive chord positions are all subjective. If you prefer to play it *this* way, and your teacher prefers it *that* way, just play it your way! I personally use whatever is most comfortable (I'm one of the few who LOVE barre chords), and what makes it quicker and easier to make the next change in the song. If its damn near impossible to make the change and still keep time with the music, then I'll find an easier position. I don't want to be playing in 5th position and suddenly play a chord in first position because thats the only one i know - i'll go ahead and learn the 4th or 5th position of that chord.

xp
I try to follow other peoples advice but do it comfortably my way for positions, holding the guitar, etc. Recently I've been trying to change my grip on the guitar, and trying to relax my fingers holding the pick and how hard I press the frets.

But if every other chord is in 7th position, then your probably not worrying about not having the open-chord timbre.
