It wasn't going to be easy going into a single combat without his brother at his back, but it what was the pride demanded. He and Farkas had watched from the border of the territory. On his part- he was observing their ways, their interactions, and the state of the pride's honor. Farkas, on his part, spent the time pretty much quivering with excitement. He wanted to fight, wanted to prove himself, but Vilkas had insisted they take time to assess their situation. Once certain, Vilkas called out his challenge and made his way towards the pride's borders. It seemed their ritual, and it was frankly one he could respect. If he couldn't prove his prowess, he shouldn't have a place here. The challenger appeared, answering his call, his eyes burning with war. A good, solid opponent... this would be interesting. Flexing his claws, Vilkas tore forward, his teeth bared and his hackles raised. He would welcome his challenge with a hammer blow from his right paw, bringing a downward swipe of his paw.

Someone had wanted to challenge him again? He'd just finished one yesterday and he was still tired from it. It was particularly challenging when your opponent didn't stop moving, really. He had fresh claw marks on his back and flanks, but he paid them no mind. He'd readily answered the challenge, as was his duty as a Reaver and was glad the opponent wasted no time in making his first move.
This would be over quickly enough. However, he was not as fast as he was yesterday and the blow landed to the top of his head, stopping Uda in his tracks. He was going to get under the male, raise up and headbutt the male's jaw, but it seemed his plan wouldn't work to his advantage.
The hammer blow to the head made him see a flash of white before he fell the the ground. He got up as quickly as he could, confused and shook his head as he backed up to attempt to put some distance between him and his challenge.

Vilkas planted himself as his opponent fell to the earth, his eyes reeling from the blow. It was a solid hit on his end, he could feel the force of impact rattle through his arm and up into his shoulders. His opponent was at least a hearty one, solid and well seasoned in combat. It seemed his sparring with Farkas had paid off... He followed through with his blow, throwing his paw out only to sweep the air inches above the opposing male's head. Adrenaline pumped through his veins, blinding him to everything but the task at hand and the foe ahead of him.

He was lucky that the second blow didn't land. Growling low in his throat, Uda turned around and watched the male before coming at him full force, jumping up into the air a few feet away. He was hoping to either get on the male's back and dig his claws into his shoulders, or, in the very least, tackle him to the earth and get some swipes in to his face. If both of these failed, he would just land on his paws and run until there was once again a safe amount of distance between him and this rogue male.

Vilkas grunted, a throaty sound filled with a stubborn defiance against pain, as the male landed on his back and dug his claws deep into his flesh. He drew in a deep breath, steeling himself against the pain and fighting his head back into the frenzy of combat. Snarling, he threw himself upwards, his weight balancing on his hind legs as he whirled himself about and fell, full force, to the ground. If his opponent didn't release him, he'd be crushed between the ground and the very broad back of Vilkas.

And release him he didn't. Uda was stubborn. He would win this duel even if it broke every bone in his body. His blood was pumping now, adrenalin rushing through his veins, feeding the fun in the sport he was doing. However, being crushed like this wasn't going to help him. He heard something in his ribs crack, his head hit the ground hard, causing him to see white sparks. He cried out, scratching at whatever he could before trying to kick the other male off of him.
This challenge wasn't going the way he wanted it to. Wheezing a bit, he just wanted this stupid brute off of him! "Get off!" he roared out, wincing as he did. Nothing was broken... Fractured maybe, but not broken.

Vilkas shifted his bulk off and rolled up to his paws. It would cost him a few moments to collect himself and allow the other male up but it wasn't a fair fight if he simply laid on his opponent and let him squirm. "Get to your feet. Let's end this now..." He said shortly, his voice somewhat accented.
Claws flexed, testing the ground as he tensed himself up, preparing for yet another strike. The moment the other male gathered himself up, he'd strike.

He rose to his feet and growled. He was pissed off and getting tired. This would be the last time he could do what he was planning on doing. His energy was getting low because he hadn't done this type of thing in a while. Growling again, Uda circled Vilkas, trying to make his intent unknown so he would had the element of surprise on his side.
Uda charged with with everything he had, zigging and zagging, hopefully confusing the other male. Then, Uda lept into the air, claws out, hoping to tackle and roll with the other male. If it happened, he was going to roll until he was on top and put the his paw to Vilkas' throat. If this messed up, the male would take damage from the roll just like he would. But then Uda knew he would be defeated.

Vilkas gathered up his strength and braced himself, his large shoulders tensing and his back going ridged as a plank. He watched his opponent, both of them puffing and heaving as the adrenaline of combat began to fail them both. There were aches in every joint and limb, the wounds they'd taken burned and smarted. The duel was nearing its end but both males were still on their paws and ready to fight.
As the other male made his charge, Vilkas threw himself into the attack, holding nothing back. The two rolled, taking damage between their opponent's thick body and the hard ground. Gathering up his shoulders, Vilkas threw his full weight forward and in the blink of an eye, it was he on top of the tackle, his large bulk pinning down his opponent.
"Easy there, friend... you fight well, but today I come out on top. No need getting our skulls split in half. Well met."

Growling when he was pinned, the male sighed and looked away. "Well met, indeed," he said, the growl gone from his voice. He shook the other off and got up, shaking himself off in the process. Dirt flew from his pelt as he winced. Cuts, scrapes and bruises were setting in, but it was worth it. This was one opponent he could lose to and be happy about it. It wasn't an accident he won.
"Welcome to the pride. I'm Uda. It's not easy to best me," he said, arching a brow as he moved to lick his leg. The tang of blood was on his tongue and he sighed. He must have hurt himself. With that, Uda got up and headed into the pride lands, expecting the newest member to follow. He waited for no name, for no real answer as he did this. He needed to get something to drink and to tend to his war wounds.
