There was tension in the air, nervousness as the dragons had raced from their homes to rout the Holdess or intercept the arrogant Malvren riders… and then silence. Nobody knew what happened and some feared it had come to aerial blows… that they had lost their delegations.
The truth was far worse.
OOC Instructions: This is the thread for the post-fall reactions Weyr-side. The setting is the HOME WEYR of the riders.
Those who are present are the Candidates, Weyrlings, riders who did not go and Queenriders. When the dragons return, it is these individuals who will tend to the injured. When the keening started Kindra just stopped, the emotion coming from Suunath, at first she wasn't sure where the stomach clenching sadness came from but when the dragons began their mourning for those lost. "Suunath?... What's happening are the Weyrs fighting?" she asked her Gold, racing to be by her beloved's side as she had been taking a bath.
"Many dragons have been lost... i do not know why but i think they are returning...maybe they fought... i will ask when they return" It took her and Suunath a moment to compose themselves once the Gold stopped keening but they got up and made their way towards the Weyrbowl, or at least, Suunath did, After dressing Kindra sped to fetch the healers, rousing them, Suunath echoing her rider by summoning those dragonhealers that had dragons of their own.
Reaching the main infirmary Kindra sped into action, she'd been taught about this but only a little. "Bandages, blankets and Numbweed as fast as you can... NOW.... there is quite likely going to be injured dragons and their riders coming in hard and fast soon" she said. "Buckets of clean water as well... down to the Weyrbowl ... get some beds set up out there for the most badly injured" she added, grabbing an armful of supplies and going out to join her mate as the wounded began coming.

<We've lost them...>
Primath's obscure pronouncement had been the first indication that something was deeply, terribly wrong, her wave of grief, since even angry Primath mourned the loss of other dragons, jolting him from what he'd been doing. He could barely even remember at this point what he had been doing, it seemed so trivial with everyone suddenly buzzing like a nest of startled insects, guessing at what had happened. "What's going on? Does anyone know yet?" He demanded of someone in passing, trying to snag sleeves, finding himself largely ignored. At some point past turning thirty he had discovered he was surprisingly invisible, especially to the young, who were apparently already assured of their place in taking over the Weyr. "Was there a fight? We were attacked again?" Maybe it had been W'lin this time? No... surely then they'd know more. Shards but he hated not knowing. This was roughly when an small, demanding whirlwind swept past, barking orders.
She seemed to know something, more than he did anyway... <Everyone knows more than you do...> Primath complained, anxious and annoyed. <Get your head out of the clouds and GO HELP.>
If he'd blinked owlishly at the whirlwinds initial passing, he jumped at that anyway, picking up long steps to catch up.
"Pr...." No... 'Primath says to' was not a good way to start offers for help. People got annoyed with that, since they felt he was being grudging. Usually he was of course... but usually he was busy with far more interesting things... "What can I do to help?" That sounded better. Possibly convincing, if very confused. "B'tar of Green Primath." He added. He'd seen her before somewhere...whe...OH. Oh right. The little gold-rider. Not a position he envied these days... "Oh that was the clutch with the wine incident... right...." He mused, apparently completely unaware that he'd added this adendum to his memory out loud, if quietly.

F'law went tense with his dragon's first keen. The sound that signified the passing of a dragon. At first he thought a fight had broken out between Malvren and the riders sent to intercept them, not realizing that Trine had also sent riders. Then as the deathtoll kept mounting he realized that it was more serious than just a fight. When he asked Zurith though the details were unclear.
Grudgingly he rose and went to find out. There seemed to be a rush toward the healers sections so he allowed himself to be pulled in that direction. "What's going on? Does anyone know?"

Emkin panted. She was late late late. There was a tensions in the atmosphere. The candidate had run to her rooms to find some clothes she wouldn't mind getting dirty. That of course had taken up too much time. Why oh why couldn't she find it?!
Now with Vervoras clinging to her shoulder she head to the Weyrbowl. The dragons had stopped keening and she slowed to try catching her breath. What was going on?

Kindra slowed her pace only a little when someone moved to keep pace with her "Help? .... Oh you're a rider ... " she said, when he announced himself. "yes... B'tar ... take some of these blankets" she said, pausing only to shuffled the items she was carrying to make it easier for him to grab the blankets leaving her free to carry the bandages and numbweed. "if they've been fighting we'll probably need to sew them up......" she said, more to herself than to B'tar. "hmm i'll get Suunath to request that later if we need it"
Her head snapped round at the mention of the wine incident at 'her' Hatching feast "Well it wasn't me .... some stupid little Greenrider that used to be a Vintner... she's sharding lucky she's STILL a rider" conveniently forgetting for the moment that B'tar rode green.
Her head whipped round at another voice asking what was going on. "We don't know .... not even Suunath knows but there's going to be dragons and riders heading home.... i think they've been fighting ..." she said to F'law with a sigh as she kept walking towards the Weyrbowl, if they didn't keep up with her, they'd get left behind. Already healers and drudges were scurrying past her with their own bundles, running at times. Kindra wasn't about to run ... it was hard to in the dress she threw on.

<Of course a green rider should know better. Not like gold riders who serve no purpose other than to sq...>
<Primath!!>
<....squat out eggs.> Primath finished, hotly. She didn't remember the incident, though B'tar did. Not remembering it of course had nothing to do with her willingness to be immensely rude about the affair, causing B'tar to make a vague gesture as though trying to wave off her rather dangerous opinions.
"I'm aware, thank you... however general evidence points to arrogance rather than the color of her partner being at fault. I do seem to recall it wasn't a little green dragon tipping a nice glass of red into her mouth."
...<As much as I agree, aren't you going to get yelled at?> Primath noted, her voice dancing with heated amusement, though B'tar tried to ignore her.
"She was... a very bold, very foolish young woman, and unfortunately not the first or the last who will decide that the rules are for people they see as... weaker... than themselves."
He decided, stacking blankets into his arms, that it was just as well to finish his train of thought as to stop in the middle, hoping she wouldn't ask him to help stitch anyone up. While he'd helped from time to time once, that had been an extremely long time ago, and only on animals. Even then he hadn't liked it, and rather pictured he'd make a monstrous job of it if he tried.

Kindra blinked "I didn't mean it like THAT B'tar ... " she sighed, "I'm sorry ... i just couldn't remember her name, just the color of her dragon .... it was the hatchling i felt sorry for" she added, he WAS older than her and greenrider or not, she ought to show him more respect, especially as she might just need his help very soon. She didn't quite like his tone and the reprimand behind his voice but this wasn't the time to get pissy about minor things shardit.. there were injured inbound and as such she needed to put aside her pride... for the moment anyway.
"I am proud of you Mine, no one has returned yet but the healers are setting beds and chairs up out here" commented Suunath. One advantage to her size was that she could remain mostly in the weyrbowl even when the injured began coming in, it would make it easier for her to aid those dragons that may be concerned or panicked if their riders were badly hurt.
"I agree with the foolish part B'tar but even if she was used to wine, she should not have so much as sipped it.... i wouldn't consider her actions Bold at all and as i said, she was lucky her dragon didn't Between" added Kindra, allowing herself just the slightest of comments though it was followed with a shudder as she tried to imagine what it would be like to lose your dragon. "I'm here Kindramine and i am not going anywhere" Suunath crooned gently in her mind and made her smile.

"I never said that she should" B'tar pointed out, slightly annoyed that, once again, people seemed to be tuning out when he was trying to educate them. Ok so he tended to ramble a little... he was just trying to explain things so that people understood. "Just that it's nothing to do with being a green rider."
She was definitely determined to help this one, and that was good, but she'd also listened to, he guessed, four, maybe five words out of what he'd said.
<What do you expect from a gold rider? They don't need to be smart, they just need to think they are.> Primath encouraged, picking at his offended ego. True they needed them to continue the Weyr, but she resented them even for that.

He was a bit surprised to find one of the new goldriders answering him. F'law had heard of the riders sent out to intercept Malvren. Something bad must of have happened. He listened as they spoke of the vinter, but he didn't mention that he'd been standing beside the girl when the incident happened. Quietly he followed along with the pair not having anything better to do. A goldrider would have information sooner than others. With a start he realized they were heading out into the Weyrbowl. The thought of so much open space made him nervous.

Kindra eyed B'tar and his annoyed tone but she kept her mouth shut, she'd had enough trouble during the investigation especially with that sharding wherhandler but it had shown her that she needed to try and not be so snappy, so she kept quiet. "No you're right.. it doesn't have anything to do with her dragon's color.. it has to do with her being a sharding wherry head and not listening to W'lin at the feast" she said in a somewhat even voice. She looked into the pack she was carrying and double checked she had what she needed before moving off again. She didn't notice the nervousness of the other rider that seemed to be accompanying them.

Finally, she listened. He hadn't even gone into a lengthy explanation, which made her original behavior frustrating. Normally he was nervous at best of admitting to agree with Primath's stance... however...
...Then again she was still relatively young overall, she had time to learn. He just hoped she would.
"Most children are a bit wherry headed, fortunately, MOST of them survive the experience."
