 Dance like no one is watching... Aysu Yumi Mikami Aysu had been walking around the grounds and discovered the pool area. It had been forever since she had a good swim. She quickly ran back and grabbed her shamrock-green bikini from her room and ran back. Kneeling down, she touched the surface of the water and smiled in delight. The water was heated only slightly so it wasn't freezing, just the way she liked it. She looked around, spotting no one and slipped her flip flops off heading for the deep end. Taking a deep breath, Aysu jumped into the water with a loud splash. The water sprayed onto the cement area and the water rippled as she surfaced back up to look around. Her long hair swished in the water as she smiled to herself and began to hum softly the tune of Telephone by Lady Gaga while swimming backstrokes across the pool.
It wasn't long before she grew bored of humming and began wondering what kind of roommates she would have. Getting out and sitting on the side of the pool on her towel she pondered the thought. I wonder who they might be. Artists? Singers? Dancers? Nerds? Whoever I get grouped with should possess something I can use to spread the word of the dangers my parents died from. Maybe I can also find someone to dance with. I can't afford to get rusty! She nodded to herself and reached in her bag she had with her, pulling out her Ipod and sticking the ear-buds in her ears, jamming out while passing the time.

Sarah skipped merrily down the hall and opened the pool door. Smiling gently at the nice water and the lovely smell of chlorine that came along with it. Blushing just a little at the sight of another girl in the area she waved slightly and dashed into a changing room, her lacy burgundy dress chasing behind her.
When she exited Sarah was dressed in a soft purple bathing suit which had black lacy frills along the edges. Smiling as her long pink hair was pulled up in a ponytail. Making her way over to the girl she waved again and sat next to her "hello" she said in her soft tone, wondering if she would be heard above the music.

Dance like no one is watching... Aysu Yumi Mikami She had listened to a handful of songs before she saw a flash of pink pass by her. Lowering her ear-buds and placing the Ipod back in her bag, Aysu looked to her right side noticing a girl had appeared dressed in a soft purple swimsuit. She smiled kindly and held out her hand for a handshake. "Hey there. The name's Aysu Mikami from Seattle. I'm glad I'm not the only one enjoying the pool around here. Seems like everyone is just busy moving in and avoiding the rest of the campus." She shook the young girl's hand and stood up looking down at her. Aysu rung out her hair and swished it back over her shoulders noticing a diving board a few feet away. Her competitive nature was kicking in and what better way to get a conversation going when you're used to being in an inner city than to challenge someone to something?
Aysu walked over to the lower board and tossed her towel over a chair out of the way, looking back at her new audience. "I don't know if you're a good swimmer or not, but why not try and make a splash on your first day, right? This is how we do it back home!" The young copper-haired girl bounced on the board a few times to get some height and finally jumped forward, twisting three times and pointed down diving into the shimmering water. Under the water, Aysu smirked to herself and thought nailed it! She resurfaced and looked back at the pink-haired girl. "You're up! Show me what you got!" She smiled and beckoned toward the diving board.

The pink haired girl raised her eyebrow "Well...I..." she blushed and giggled, walking to the diving board and jumping up. She flipped mid air and did a roll, landing without even a splash in the water from popping up. Why would someone just want me to jump in with them? I mean...I look so odd and not like everyone else and I just...sigh Her low self esteem was getting to her again as she swam like a fish through the water, loving the feeling of the cool water against her skin. Upon surfacing she placed a smile on her gentle face and swam up to her.
She giggled a little "my name's Sarah, and I'm from well...I don't really know exactly originally." she said and rubbed her arm shyly "but it's lovely to meet you, and I was on swim team at home"

Dance like no one is watching... Aysu Yumi Mikami Aysu applauded Sarah's dive and nodded to her. "Nice to meet you too. I'm hoping to meet the president of the dance team here and sign up. I was born to dance and I need to keep practicing. What better way than to join the team, right?" The green-eyed girl tilted her head at her new friend. She seemed to be blushing for no reason and Aysu wasn't sure what the reason could be. She normally saw this kind of thing back home when a girl was fawning over one of the popular boys in school. Obviously this wasn't the case. There was no jock or anything near the pool to cause such a reaction. She was puzzled. Still, she thought it was better to ask than to be rude and assume she understood. "So, what's with the blush?" She reclined in the water and floated on her back looking over at Sarah. Her pale skin shimmering with the lights and the water with her emerald eyes looking confused at Sarah hoping to understand what was going on soon.

Sarah touched her warm face and flushed more "Oh, I get nervous around new people and you're new, and nice so I get nervous and this happens" she began to ramble to herself a little before giggling "I'm sorry if it bothers you" she said before dipping her head under the water and popping back up, trying to cool her face.
Ahn..maybe I shouldn't have come. Maybe I'm making a bad impression already. Oh goodness what can I do. Her mind buzzed with its own nervous chatter as she swam around slowly "So miss Aysu what do you like to do, besides Dance?"

Dance like no one is watching... Aysu Yumi Mikami Aysu nodded and laughed slightly, ruffling Sarah's hair playfully. "You're not bothering me. As far as what I like to do besides dance... hmm..." She pondered for a few minutes, tilting her head and looking at the ceiling. Dancing was very much who he was and nothing outside of that really fit her. "Well, dancing really is my favorite thing to do, but I'm open to new things. I mostly promote the horrors of drug-use... I lost my parents to drugs and my grandma had to step in and raise me. Aysu dipped her head under the water and swam to the side with the ladder, climbing out and sitting on a chair that had her towel on it, wrapping it around her. It wasn't easy to think how everyone around her growing up still had their parents and she didn't. She called over to Sarah. "You can come over or stay in the pool. It's your choice. I just don't wanna talk about that. Dancing is my escape and my passion. Nothing beats the way I feel when I dance... well, other than me singing when I dance that is." Her voice was that of a higher ranged alto and she could sing with the modern music of the female stars easily in harmony. She would have to find a band or something to join and relax after classes.

Sarah giggled as her hair was touched, making a soft meep like sound and blushing again before her new friend began to talk. Her usually smiling, friendly face frowned a little "I'm very sorry to hear that" Sarah began to chew her lip in a nervous manner as she swam over to the side where Aysu was sitting. "If it helps you a little better, I didn't even know my parents. My mother's adopted me." She hopped up on the ledge of the pool and sat there for a second. Feeling the wave of wonder and regret wash over her, the stinging memories, the want to be loved by her parents. Why did they not want her? Was she not enough? Did she look like her mother or her father?
These things haunted the back of her mind, though she pressed them back and addressed the girls love of dance "I'm glad you've found something that gives you an outlet" She said in her happy tone, smiling gently. "I like to design things, like clothes and shoes and hair and stuff" Shrugging a little she grabbed her towel and sat by the girl "I'm sure that the dance team would love to have you."

Dance like no one is watching... Aysu Yumi Mikami Aysu nodded to Sarah and sighed. "I hope they let me join the team. I love to compete and I can't wait for try-outs if they have them. Honestly, I think I need something to feel special at. Grammy Gigi always had me involved in things to keep me away from the druggies and attended everything I participated in. I wish she could have come with me and brought my cat with her... I miss my Yuma." She frowned slightly and fiddled with her hair in thought. Maybe a walk would clear her head. She stood up and offered her hand to Sarah to help her up. "I think I'm going to the dance room for a while. Wanna travel to your room to get dressed and meet me there? I think I need to dance my blues away."
The freshman was often thinking of ways to distract herself from thoughts of abandonment. Dancing provided endorphin and dopamine levels to rise, giving the sensation of a high without the use of harmful substances. Wasn't this kind of high the very thing that others were after so much? True, she had loved to feel the rush and felt her best when she performed, but coming off the high afterwards was a bit depressing. Moving to this school away from her friends and losing touch really was hard on her, but maybe Sarah would offer some companionship. It was worth a try. "Lets be friends." She smiled warmly and tried to hide the sadness behind her eyes.

Sarah smiled up to her "Well, you know this school's all about finding what you're good at. Discovering yourself and whatnot." Giggling a little at the notion of the cat. "Maybe she can set up a skype call? So you can see them both?" Sarah was trying to be helpful as she took the extended hand, standing up without pulling the brunette down with her. "I'm not such a very good dancer" she admitted with a bashful blush, her hand rubbing her arm.
Though her icy blue eyes glittered at the request for friendship "You want to be friends with me?" She asked in a shy voice before smiling up to her "I'd love to be friends" Her grin was big, but not cheesy as she clapped her hands and skipped a little "Yaay!~" Blushing again as she realized she'd done that out loud, and not in her head "My clothes are right over there" she said, pointing to the changing room.

Dance like no one is watching... Aysu Yumi Mikami The copper-tinted brunette smiled and giggled at Sarah's joy at being called her friend. She really got excited over little things, making Aysu smile and hope they could hang out sometime. She nodded and grabbed her bag and flip flops. "My clothes are back in my room so excuse me for a while. Oh, before I forget-" Aysu reached in her bag and pulled out a notepad and pen, scribbling down a few numbers and ripping the paper off. She tucked the pen and notebook back in her bag and looked back at Sarah, handing her the single sheet. "This is my cell number and room number on it. Anytime you wanna hang out, feel free to call me. The only times I don't respond to texts or calls is when I'm asleep, in class, or dancing. Just text me letting me know it's you." Aysu smiled warmly and rung the water out of her hair over the side of the pool. Friends were always welcome into her circle. All she had to do now was to take her bags from her room (which in fact was a partial lie, being she placed them in a storage closet waiting for some clue as far as where she would be living) and change to head to the dance room. "Well, I'll see you around, ok? Hope I have a class or two with you so we can study together!" She beamed and swung the bag over her shoulder, ready to leave and rid herself of her wet bikini and flip flops.

Sarah smiled a little at the phone number and pulled her phone out of her bag, adding the number and sending her the text "here you go" She said with a smile. "We might have classes together" giggling softly as Aysu said she was leaving. "Oh, alright I'll see you around!" She said and waved, popping into the changing room and behind the curtain. She began to change not realizing she'd left the cloth open partially. In to much of an excited mood to really notice as she pulled on her underwear, then the corset she wore under all her clothing, and the dress that followed. Then her boots, humming to herself as she dried her pink hair. "New friends~" she sang to herself in a quiet voice. "I wonder if anyone is back in the dorm? Or maybe I'll go for a walk"

Dance like no one is watching... Aysu Yumi Mikami Aysu received the text and was on her way out the door, smiling when hearing Sarah's joyful voice. Perhaps she could find some more friends around the area. Most of the upperclassmen were probably not looking to make friends with a 9th grader who was more into being openly friendly and spazzy than anything else. One friend down and a million more to go. With any luck, she would meet the dance team leaders and have a shot at trying out for the team! She smiled to herself and set out on the path to the closet she dubbed her room. With any luck, she would recieve a text from the administrations office to assign her to her room, knowing full well that her grandma was prone to mailing paperwork that got lost easily in the mail. Just another day for Aysu. She was out and on a mission to find the dance room after getting dressed.
