ITT: animal-friendly and environmentally-friendly meat-noms.

I don't eat meat anymore that isn't either certified organic, or at least from a reliable source. Ish more expensive, but oh well. emotion_bigheart

I'm a "part-time vegetarian" I do eat meat, but not often, and not much. I prefer humanely treated animals, there's that new numbered scale certification system that's been very useful in that sense. Applegate's uncured bacon rates a 3 on it, so while its not as good as the whole chickens i get that rate a 5, it's still a decent level.

I really only eat chicken. I buy whole chickens that are hormone free, organic and free-range, on sale they're about 99 cents a pound so I get a whole chicken for around 5 bucks. Pretty awesome.

Bacon though, there's a kind at my grocery store. Organic, apple wood smoked...I can't describe it. It's amazing...and cheap.

I live in a pretty big city. We also have a Whole Foods, and a lot of smaller independent organic/health food grocers. The number usually depends on the demographics of a city. Where I live there is a large population of hipsters, eco-minded people, yuppies and hippies.

Well, where I live it's a very, very agricultural area. If I drive out of the city in the summer, like 20 minutes, I hit nothing but orchards and rice fields. Then in the other direction it's all animal farms, dairies, ect... So that probably has something to do with the cheapness of my meat and produce.

Other things though...so expensive. The high-cost of my diet comes from having to eat completely corn-free.
