The punk walked down the school hall, a slight frown on his face as he mentally went over the class he'd just been in. Well, he sort of understood it, but seriously he was starting to think the professors were just trolling them instead of actually teaching.
He was so caught up in that thought that he almost ran straight into a guy. "Sorry--"
Then he stopped, finding himself looking straight at Rikki. NOT how he'd planned on meeting up with the guy, that was certain... "Yo."

Rikki scratched his temple with a pencil as he walked down the hallway, headed to his next class. Unlike his punk friend, Rikki wasn't thinking about what he'd just been told in his last class. In fact, he couldn't tell you what he'd been told in his last class. Instead, he had plans and emotions rolling through his head faster than he could manage. Needless to say, he was a little preoccupied.
Which is why he failed to avoid Roch like he'd planned to.
He stumbled back and was about to snap at whoever had bumped into him when he realized who it was. Well... s**t. He ran a hand through his shorter hair, which still felt weird, and glanced around for an escape path that didn't exist.
"... Hey, man."

Roch stared at him, shoving his hands into his pockets as he rocked back on his heels. "Y'know... damn, man, I don't know what to say right now," he admitted. "But we should probably talk. You had lunch yet?" he asked. "I mean, I have, but that's never stopped me before."

Rikki's gaze shifted around for a moment longer before he finally met Roch's gaze. There was no way for him to get out of this, so even though this wasn't ideally how he wanted to approach the other grim again, it was at least an opportunity to get it out of the way. And Roch was offering lunch together rather than knuckle sandwiches, so it could be worse.
He sighed and shook his head. "Nah, I haven't eaten. Let's go to the cafeteria."

Roch nodded and turned, his hands still buried deep in his pockets. "I asked Danny," he said almost abruptly. "And she didn't want me to kick your a** for the break up, so I won't. But jack, man, you should have been here last week, there was this--this strange s**t goin' on where you thought you were in love with practically everyone. And you even missed the scarentines party... not that I stuck around for long. I kept falling in love with my food," he said with a hint of disgust.

Rikki wasn't sure whether he felt relieved of guilty at Roch's words. He didn't want to have his a** kicked but... "Man, I deserve to have my a** kicked. I jacked up." He wrapped his arms around his stomach as he walked, a little surprised to hear about what he'd missed. Falling in love with everyone? Yeesh.
"I wasn't in the mood for Scarentines anything, dude. Trust me. But you're in love with your food anyways, so I think I might be missing the issue," he laughed, but it was a bit half-hearted. All of this just felt like a mask. Like they were trying to pick back up from where they'd left off while ignoring the white elephant. "How.... How is she? Danny?"

Roch was silent for a bit. "I pissed her off," he said finally. "So she ain't just hurt cuz of you, she's hurt cuz of me, too, and... I ain't gonna change my mind on this, which is a bit of a problem," he told the other boil, a serious expression on his face. "She might think I'm crazy, but... I got my reasons."

That confused Rikki a bit. He furrowed his brows and watched Roch curiously as he held the door to the cafeteria open for him. Roch was the one person at this school Rikki could, and did, expect to protect Danny from all things emotionally harmful. The idea that he had hurt her and knew it seemed... inconceivable.
"... What did you do?"

"I... you know I got a past, right? There's this thick a** folder--it's like two or three inches thick--of stuff that the boogies got on me, and all of it's from before I was fifteen," Roch started out slowly. "They know I'm here. They know what I've done. They called me out on it when we went on that field trip, and they watched me like a hawk when they were on the campus grounds. Those emblems--I figure they mean some serious s**t, y'know? Like you're willing to take the blame for the stuff the guy who's got yours has done."
He kept looking forward. "I don't want my friends--ESPECIALLY Danny--to even think of gettin' that sort of blame. Even if it's just a school game, a playin' at bonds, I still won't ever jackin' do somethin like that. So when she tried to give me her emblem... I said no."

That.... actually sounded like something Danny would get upset over. And Rikki wasn't entirely sure whose side of the argument he was on. In Danny's corner was the fact that, well, she could make her own decisions about what she was willing to get into. In Roch's corner there was the fact that Rikki knew, absolutely that the boil probably wasn't exaggerating. There was probably a whole load of s**t that he'd gotten into, and if any of that was brought down on Danny's head because of some damn emblem, it could be potentially life altering. In the bad way.
Wait. He did know which side he took. Roch's, undeniably.
Rikki ran a hand across his mouth and shrugged. "I guess it's a good thing I haven't tried to give you my emblem yet. Thought about it, though." He clapped Roch on the shoulder as he went to grab a tray. "You know I always have your back though. Even when things are... tense between us." If Roch had called even once with an issue while Rikki had been gone, he would have gone to his aid. It was just the kind of thing he felt was right.

"I know, man, and you know the same," he said, scowling as he thought about the whole Yin thing. "But when I tried to explain that all to Danny she got pissed at me and started pouring emblems down on me and now she's pissed," he said. "And I KNOW she don't get it, and I know it hurt her feelings--hell, I gotta deal with tryin' to give Xiu back hers, too--"
His shoulders slumped. "If I was anyone else--if I had a different past, or something, I would be perfectly fine takin' them. But as it is I got the few I've been given hidden somewhere and no clue how to stop more people from givin' them to me other than be a complete a**." He looked at Rikki, giving him a crooked grin. "Good thing I'm so good at doin' that!"

Rikki nodded, acknowledging the bro-connection they had, and then shrugged. "You know how Danny is. Just give her some time to get over it and she'll cool down. Or compromise with her. That usually works." Jack, it sucked talking about Danny.
"You're damn good at being an a**," he laughed. "I am too, though. I'm too good at it."

Roch was silent, thinking of Taryn again. "Maybe," he said quietly. Then he shook his head and went to get in line to get food. He didn't look very happy, but it didn't seem directed at Rikki. "Man, I don't see how you can get two ghoulfriends in a row," he told the other reaper. "I can't even get one. And I end up hurtin' people--"
He shrugged. "That's another reason I can't blame you that much for Danny."

Rikki piled food onto his tray as he thought about that. How could he do it? He couldn't explain that one. "I'm just... myself. I guess that's good enough for them." He shrugged. There was no tips he could give the boil in this situation because he didn't have a secret trick. He just acted like he always did. "Hurting people happens. Not everyone's feelings line up the same way, especially between a boil and ghoul. If you don't hurt people once in a while then you're too busy pussyfooting around other people's emotions and you need to focus on you for a while."
He pushed a hand through his hair and nearly growled in frustration at the feel of the short locks. "That doesn't make what happened between me and Danny okay though."

"No, it don't," Roch agreed, coldly. "But it don't make the whole fight between me and her good, either," he said quietly. "And unlike you, I ain't gonna take it back. Maybe it'd be better for her if she stopped bein' my pal." He took his stacked up tray and headed for the tables, sitting down and starting to eat as if he hadn't just said something outrageous.
