For Jett, the meteor shower had been enough interaction with space for one month, but for Millie? Apparently not. A brief conversation with the girl and her mother resulted in him agreeing to pick her up to fulfill his promise to take her to see the ‘new’ Star Wars movie.
He had woken up with a strange sort of sniffle and had immediately cursed winter, though took a vitamin and had a cup of orange juice, assuming that would be enough of a push for his immune system to fend off whatever seasonal disease was trying to overwhelm him. Jett took extra precaution, then, to prevent himself from getting any worse. He dressed in thick, warm clothing, ate a healthy breakfast, turned up the heat in his car, and then drove toward Millicent’s house. When he pulled into the driveway, he eyed the house warily in an effort to calculate how long it would take him to get to the doorstep if he took large steps.
…Of course, then there was the likelihood that someone would see him and think he looked ridiculous, so he just sucked it up and stepped out of his car, adjusting the scarf around his neck, and walked to the front door. He knocked, three times, and as he waited for someone—preferably Millicent so he didn’t have to worry about Bellatrix judging him—to open the door.

Millie did not want to be sick. She had already been sick once this year, and the thought of being sick again, just made her very sad. She was so excited to go see Star Wars in theaters though…even though it was one of the sillier movies…it was still in theaters. Sometimes, she wished she could go back in time to when the movies first came out, that way…she could see them in theaters for the first time, like the people back then did! That would be so super cool.
She ran to the door and looked up at Jett, smiling. Her nose was red, and seemed to be just a little runny, but she had a box of tissues stashed in her pig shaped backpack. She was dressed warmly as well, though had her Jedi robes on over her jacket. “Hiya, Jett! Are you ready to go? Oh I’m so excited I can’t even stand it! This is going to be so super cool!”

Jett raised a brow as he looked down at the girl, taking in her appearance. Pig backpack, typical Millie. Jedi robes. Yeah, he should have expected them. Thankfully the girl hadn’t made any effort to remind him to wear the robes she and her mother had made him. Jett spent so much time eyeing the obvious that he almost failed to notice her red nose—and then a shiver ran down his spine.
Oh, god, what if she was infected with something, too.
His lip twitched into a smile, albeit a bit reluctant when he realized how much danger he was putting himself in by going out in public. Any single germ could be the instigator of his downfall. “Yeah, I’m ready to go,” he said, gesturing towards the car. “Car should be warm. We’ve got a little less than an hour before the next movie starts, so we can grab some fast food and eat while I drive. Just don’t make a mess in my ride,” he warned, ruffling her hair as he moved to pass her, eager to return to the warmth of his car.

Millicent nodded, seeming happy. “Sounds good, Jett.” She hurried over to his car and got in, buckling up, waiting for him to get in as well. “I really hope they did a good job with all of the 3D stuff in the movie…I kinda wish that it was just the normal movie back in theaters, to be honest.”
She was having some issues accepting that the movie might have been changed, like George Lucas had changed the other movies when he had put them on both DVD and the other thing…she liked her mother’s copies of the Video Tapes the best. They were super old now, but…they were the real thing! And…you can’t put in the young Anakin in the end, that just ruined the whole thing. It really did.
“Jett. What if the movie is just ruined because George Lucas added stuff that shouldn’t have been added…like he did with the other movies…that’s gonna be terrible.” She gave a little sneeze, then drew a tissue out of her backpack, wiping at her nose.

Jett was an absolutely terrible Star Wars fan. He remembered the general theme to the movie—remembered the storyline and most of the major characters. He wasn’t much of a sci-fi nerd, though many hours of movie watching in his free time had left him familiar with his fair share of films.
…But he hadn’t even been aware that George Lucas had made any chances to the films. “Ah, I’m sure it’ll be fine,” Jett said as he slid into his seat and moved to buckle up. He froze, however, noticing the tissue Millicent extracted. “Millie,” he said, eying it warily, “You…aren’t by chance…”
He stood up straight, placing his hands on the wheel and then looked at Millicent as if she were plagued. “You’re not sick, are you?”

Millie laughed at him and shook her head. “I’m not sick…I just have the sniffles, that’s all…I was…” She was patrolling far too much in the cold, and getting pushed down far too much in the snow, that’s what the real issue was, she was sure. “I only get sick once a year, Jett, and I already got better from that. This’ll go away soon, I know it will.”
She glanced up to him and smiled. “Why? You don’t like people who are sick? I don’t like being sick either…Remember? I missed our training ‘cause I was sick. Mom had to give you your lessons instead of me. It wasn’t that long ago, was it?”
The girl sniffled again, wiping at her nose, then fell silent. After a long moment, she looked out the window. “I want to be watching the movie now..I’m so excited. You’ll buy me popcorn, right?”

Jett glanced at Millicent as he put the car in reverse and began to back out of the driveway. No, he did not like sick people. In fact, he hated them. He figured all sick people deserved to stay locked up at home and never come out into the world.
Which made him a damned hypocrite if he chose to acknowledge the fact that he had been sniffling for a while now. If he was going to be sick and miserable, he was going to infect as many people as possible, though. Served them right since he probably caught this from being out in public.
Instead of spilling his deep, dark hatred for sickness and anyone afflicted with something, he reached over to ruffle Millicent’s hair before shifting the car into first gear. He didn’t imagine telling her how much he loathed germs was going to make her feel very well and—at the end of the day, he could never hate Millie, sick or not. “Yeah, I’ll buy you some popcorn. Just make sure you eat it, don’t throw it at anyone.”
Hands settled on the steering wheel as he drove, he glanced at the girl out of the corner of his eye. He was slightly concerned with her demeanor given that he expected her to be a hyperactive little ball of energy and excitement, though instead she seemed particularly tame. “You all right over there?” he asked, gaze drifting back to the road. Suspecting she held some sort of remorse for going to the film with him and not her father, he didn’t want her to not enjoy the film because she was kicking herself for something.

She looked over, blinking. “Huh? Oh, yeah. I’m okay. Just thinking, I guess.” She was glad she was coming here with Jett, she really was. She didn’t think her father would have really even made the time to go with her…even their visitations hadn’t happened for a few weeks now, since he was so busy…doing something for work.
Millie was really starting to think he just didn’t love her anymore. Maybe she was just too Jedi like for his tastes.
Oh well. He wasn’t that great anyway…and…she didn’t need him. She had Jett and her mom, and Minny. That was all Millie would ever need, she was sure. Really, it was. She didn’t say any more until the two got to the theater, and then she seemed to grow quite a bit happier, jumping up and down in line for the tickets, putting her 3D glasses on before they even got to the snack bar. She got a big soda and popcorn, then dragged Jett into the theater, laughing. “Come on, slowpoke! We’ll miss the movie!”
This, however was a complete impossibility, since the movie didn’t start for another fifteen minutes.

That was the Millicent Jett had expected to see—hopping around, nearly breaking things, giving him a headache. Jett was still daydreaming about what fast food they were going to get after the movie when the girl dragged him to a seat. Millie’s enthusiasm procured a seat in the very front of the theatre and Jett leaned back, trying to figure out how he was going to get comfortable with his neck craned.
A little slouching and he was just fine, though still seemed a bit paranoid that Millie was hiding something. He didn’t want to stand up for Garethon who, during the internship Jett had been working, had proven to be very work oriented. It wasn’t that the male didn’t care for his daughter, just that work was a priority.
Jett resented him all the same. Garethon had a daughter was neglecting her. His lip curled into a bit of a sneer as he considered the man and related him to his own father. Whatever relationship that remained between the two was long gone. The damage had already been done, and even if he had shown up on the doorstep begging for forgiveness, Jett still would have turned him away.
If Garethon wasn’t careful, he had no doubt in his mind that Millicent was going to resent him in a similar fashion as Jett did his own father. And that wasn’t something he wanted her to deal with. As a screen requesting all members of the audience silence their cell phones, Jett withdrew his. He scrolled through the numbers and found Garethon’s with ease. For a moment he considered sending him a message, though instead just flicked his phone off, pocketed it, and then relaxed again.
“If I start snoring, wake me up,” he whispered, snagging some popcorn and tossing it into his mouth. He laced his fingers together over his stomach and looked like he could have been going to sleep—especially when he shifted positions to flick the 3D glasses down over his eyes. They looked almost like they could have served as a sleeping mask. “Oh—and don’t start crying when Qui-Gon gets sliced up. I know how emotional that scene makes you. Don’t make me look bad,” he teased, taking a piece of popcorn and throwing it playfully at the girl’s forehead.

Millicent laughed, scooping some of the popcorn up and throwing a handful at Jett, grinning. When the movie started though, she grew rather serious again, watching the screen, face completely alight with joy. It was Star Wars…it was really Star Wars…on the big screen, just for her! Just for her. Here she was…getting to do what lots of other people had done…only she was doing it for the first time. That was so cool…
This was one of the most amazing moments in her whole life…and she was really glad that Jett was here with her, that really made the whole thing super special. Jett was the best friend in the whole world, she knew that.
When the time came that Qui-Gon got stabbed by Darth Maul, some tears came into her eyes and she had to blow her nose loudly, but…still. It was so good.
By the end of the movie, she was excited, and once more jumped around. “Come on, Jett! Let’s go get dinner! Thank you for taking me to the movies…it was amazing! So amazing!” She couldn’t wait now. Couldn’t wait until they put Episode Two back into theaters.

The truth of the matter was that Jett ended up being grateful for the 3D glasses. He’d fallen asleep twice, laughed at inappropriate moments—he stifled them, though badly. When the movie was finished, his stomach was growling. The idea of dinner was fantastic to him, and he was quick to retreat from the theatre. Seeing Millicent put him in a better mood, himself; there was a sort of nagging feeling in the back of his head that something was wrong, and though today had been a good day, he felt like he’d only scraped the surface of whatever was bothering the girl.
It felt silly that he should worry about her so much, and it was only when they were walking out of the theatre and he grabbed her hand to make sure they didn’t get separated that he became vaguely aware of how close a friend he had come to consider her.
