Nyuki was adjusting slowly to life in this new place. As she was told, she started calling Brynja 'Mother', but it bothered her to her core. Brynja was not her mother, but at the least a mother figure. When she got a chance, Nyuki would slip away from Yakuti and Brynja and visit the place in which their mother had left them. Her mother's scent was fading, and there was no indication she had returned at all. It hurt Nyuki's heart, but like her sister she vowed to be strong and not let it be the end of everything.
Nyuki had managed to find herself a small pond. A quiet place where she could escape the very busy and rowdy pride that was now her home. She didn't like the noise, and the abrasive nature of some of the individuals made her shake in her tiny juvenile paws. Her life with her mother was far more quiet. Stressful, but quiet.
The blonde little lioness starred into the pond's water, watching as things she learned were fish swam within its waters. They interested her because despite the hectic world around them, they didn't seem to be phased by it. Everything was calm. She loved the calm.
"Hello fish. Hello again. Wouldn't you like to be my friend?" Nyuki mused, a sing-song quality to her voice as she starred down at them.

Ngaza was not aware of what her father's side of her family tree really brought to her genetics, at least not in a way that allowed her to blame any moments of awkwardness or failure on.
But if she did realize it, it would certainly explain a few things.
She was not the most graceful of lionesses. Usually it just flared up on particularly bad days, but it felt as if her feet were twice as big as they needed to be when she needed to do delicate tasks. Still, she got by most days, and was efficient enough to hold her own.
Mostly.
She was padding along on a day she hoped was a good one, in a long string of good ones, and humming to herself when she spotted a younger lioness nearby. She drew a bit closer, noting that the lioness was talking to... the fish?
"I would be worried if it answered you," she said, her tone as friendly as she could make it.

The timid little lioness was caught off guard by Ngaza's presence when she spoke and jumped slightly, the vibrations from her feet resonating through the ground and causing the fish at the edge of the little pond to scatter.
"Oh, uhm, uh," Nyuki tried to struggle for words in front of the big lioness, but had a hard time and simply made a scrunched up face and a very pitiful noise.
She was not good at talking to people without her sister, Yakuti, there. Being raised so far as the daughter of a King (a not-so-nice King) and his breeding trophy, Nyuki was taught the art of being quiet and timid. As such, her ability to communicate confidently was near nonexistent.
"They... don't answer?" She asked, curiously. She wasn't very aware of what fish were aside from tasty food, and the other food talked, so why not these?

Ngaza had not meant to scare the little lioness, and winced a bit at the clear fact that she had. She smiled through that wince, giving a very strange expression that was in no way comforting like she wanted but at least funny enough to be slightly calming.
Maybe.
She had to work with what she had sometimes, but was increasingly aware that today might not be a good day for her. Hoping she was mistaken and this was just one awkward moment out of a day of good ones, a fluke, she shook her head to erase the expression and start again. Her smile was warm now, and harmless.
She crouched down, lowering her nose so she was closer to the cub's height.
"Well, I've never met a fish that talked to me. But then, I guess I never said hi before I ate it..." she looked thoughtful, then shook her head. "It's probably better that way. If I talked to my food I'd go hungry, I'm sure."
