For the second time that day Cosine stepped out into the main street. This time she had her boots back on and she meant business. There was no way this ... whatever he was was going to get away with his pantomime. Ayumi had pointed her in the direction of one of the village elders. Aparently they knew more about this imposter and the cult than Ayumi and her husband did. The leader had approached them in a bid to get them to join him.
Cosine crossed the square, aware of the eyes on some of the locals on her. Although she mostly blended in she could tell that they knew she didn't quite belong. For now they did not seem to mind too much. They were curious and not hostile at all.
Ignoring them for the most part she walked up to one of the old houses and looked it over. She imagined it had been rather beautiful when it had been built. Now, however there were boarded windows, cracks in the paintwork and weeds growing along the edges. Still, weeds were a good sign. They meant that life was returning.
Stopping by the wooden front door she reached out and knocked hard.

"Hold on your horses, will ya ?" Came a gruff voice from inside, as did the tap of a cane as someone slowly made their way toward the door. "Yer always so impatient..."
Then the door opened, and well... This clearly wasn't who he'd expected. The man had short white hair and dark brown eyes. He leaned on his cane as he observed Cosine with open curiosity, no way dulled by his age. "Ah, sorry. I thought you were my grandson." He couldn't remember ever seeing her, which only made him more curious.
"What brings ya to me, then, young lady ? Im Daiki."

Cosine waited patiently as she heard the disgruntled voice muffled by the door. Maybe she had been a little overzealous with the knocking. "I'm Lien." She smiled and looked the old man over. He seemed harmless enough, though she of all should know that appearences were decieving. "I'm looking for some information about the ... cult? Ayumi said you might be able to help me out?"

"Ah, yes. Ayumi's a good friend of mine. Why do you want to know about that cult, through ? The man's dangerous, I tell you." He shook his head, then turned to head back inside, expecting Cosine to follow. Like hell he was just going to stand around here all day !
"So sit, and entertain the old man, will ya ?" He gestured toward one of the chairs at the table - one leg was paler than the rest, clearly a repair, but it looked stable.

"Dangerous?" She asked as she stepped up inside the house. That did not sound good, though dangerous could mean many things. She looked around the house that had clearly had a lot of patching up and took her boots off before following him through to the kitchen. "Just anything you know about them? Who he is, where they are staying."

"I dun think that man is quite right in the head... If you know what I mean." And he hoped she did. She looked smart, but who knew these days, with the world as tipsy-turvy as it was ? Nothing seemed quite what it seemed, anymore.
"Well, they stay in some temple out there in forest. That man came out of nowhere one day claiming to be a god and trying to get the town follow him back in there. A few fell for it, but thankfully most still have the sense to listen to their elders." He snorted.
"No one know where he's from, or how he got here really. Just showed up one day with a small group. They don't let anyone not in the Cult in that temple, either." Sometimes he did wonder what was inside...

Cosine listened, her mind running over those facts. She wondered why he had chosen this community, why that temple when she had seen that there were number temples all over the place. Though, maybe they had crumbled?
She glanced around the kitchen and smiled at the old man. "He had managed to convince people from the village to join him though hasn't he? He must be offering something special? Has he ever used force on anyone?"

"Yes, he has. A few did go, through most are weary." Rightfully so, in Daiki's mind. They had no idea where that man had come from, after all !
"He has never used force that I know of, or else we would bar him from the village. So few of us remain now." He sighed. "He is offering... Secrets and knowledge, he says. Of course, no one know exactly what that would be unless you follow him first..."
Of course. That would be a little too easy, wouldn't it ? And well, it seemed like the prime thing that made Daiki suspicious.

"Of course." She smirked a little, so he may not be dangerous after all. She thought to herself as she leaned her arms on the table. "He would need something to get people interested. Though it has me intrigued. It is easy to wonder just what secrets he might be holding. I've travelled far, if he knows something that might help us all it may be worth knowing don't you think?"

"He keep his 'followers' close, through. Those who do decide to go with him are not allowed back here unless they are with him. I'd give it careful thought, lady. What knowledge could be worth being at someone's complete whims ?"
Of course, if he knew who he was talking with, he might have thought differently. The hiss of a kettle made him look up, and then stand to tend to it.
"Would you like some tea, while you're here ? I should have enough water for two..."

Tea? Now that did sound good. She liked the green tea that they seemed to drink a lot of. It was like the kind that she had had with Harmodius and Hjava. "I'd love some tea, thank you." She replied. "I will think carefully, I would not go alone at all. My husband will be with me. The people of the village have been so kind to us. If we can help you any way, by discovering more about them then I think any trouble would be worth it."

He nodded along to her approval and reached for another teacup - clearly from a different set than the first that had been brought out before she had knocked on his door, but it was pristine.
"Yer husband, eh." Came the amused reply, brown eyes looking back at her from behind the glasses he wore. "Lucky fellow." For exactly what reason, well, the old man did not elaborate.
Leaves were sorted in a bag and that bag left to steep in the teapot as he carefully carried the whole back on the table.
"It is rare for us to get visitors, anymore." Daiki admitted, seating himself back in his chair. "Ever since all these weird things happened... Even the sky left us, for a time."

His flattery made her smile. She was beginning to quite like this older man, though she liked most people she came across. It was only rudeness she could not tolerate. "There were very few left in my home town. We moved on when the plague struck. Passed through so many towns where people were hostile and understandably so. Even now it is hard to know who to trust. We're glad that we have found a friendly community here though. It seemed like me might be wandering forever."
The lies came easy. She had met so many mortals with similar tales. did she feel bad? A little perhaps. Liars were not her favourite people, though these lies had to be told.

"Is is hard to truly be sure of who is ally and who is foe, in the wake of what has happened. Some groups have bound all the tighter thanks to their limited numbers, and are quite wary of strangers." Even they were wary of strangers, in some way. Caution was to be had, yes, but he saw no need to rebuke others like Lien and her husband, who seemingly had pure intentions.
Keep an eye on them certainly, but...
Daiki seemed to believe her wholeheartedly, thanks to how many times he had heard a similar tale himself, perhaps - through now a large, wrinkled hand reached for the teapot to pour it's contents into the two cups.
"The future lives on in young people like you, not in old, rugged souls like mine." He said, clearly amused. "Some have forgotten that, I think, in their quest to survive."

"Ah, but we need the old to teach us." She smiled, watching him as he moved around the small kitchen. Old and Young, opposites yet also perfect compliments. "The past is important. Yes, we should not dwell in it but to learn from it. Though, you are right. The future is in the young. In the children that I saw playing outside. People do need to remember that."
