Makoto lay draped in the branches of the royal baobab, patiently watching the world at large. The pride was still recovering, a slow and agonizing process. The recent emergency Festival of the Rogue had done little to help their numbers. The black and white lion let out a growl, clawing the dead wood as he got up, climbing his way down through the center of the hollowed-out tree.
Makoto himself had had to join in. His first mate had died in the plague brought on by that... Kabuki. He padded his way to the river, finding a spot to sit and stare at it. So many boats had been sent down the river recently... So many had died, they'd found need for the Festival of Lights to be held... Six months early. Slowly, he lay down, blue eyes shifting and flicking as he watched the river's waves. His mind was lost in thought, absorbed in worry for the pride, he didn't notice if anybody walked up to him or not.

She had stumbled into some sort of festivity going on with a group of lions. The air here was thick with sadness mixed with timid happiness. Some of the lions here didn't look as if they knew if they should be happy or sad. Lala went unnoticed in the pride. Her pink eyes glanced around, seeing how everyone only had two colors on them, just like herself. She had no idea where she was.
A couple hours earlier she been in the rogue lands just wandering, looking for a place to rest, looking for her next meal and the nearest watering hole. So far, there was nothing around that she could smell or hear, so she had kept wandering.
It wasn't until her eyes caught sight of a couple of lions wandering towards a big tree in the distance that she realized there might be a pride near by. Having left her old pride, a pang went through her chest. Home. She really wanted a home. Groaning inwardly, the usually sassy girl had to be sneaky about how she did this. She followed the lions carefully, at a distance, never letting them out of her sight. But what she found wasn't what she was expecting.
This brought her to wandering through the pride, trying to get a sense of what was going on here. She had no idea what festival this might be. As she kept walking, her eyes spotted something by a river. Oh gods, water...
Lala threw all caution to the wind as she neared the river and dipped her head in for a long, long drink. It quenched her parched throat and soothed the urge to cough every five minutes. All the dust from the rogue lands and wandering for days was being washed down with the cool liquid.
