Beloved Shapeshifter

The last thing Léonce would remember when he stirred was that he had been working on a routine for the Eglantine adepts' next fête engagement. A turn had gone badly and he ended up falling, hitting his head on the hard wood floor of the studio. Thankfully no one else had been in the room to see him fall or would've been doubly embarrassing. Unfortunately it also meant there was no help immediately forthcoming either. Hopefully they would find him before he blacked out....maybe not.

What he awoke too though, certainly wasn't what he expected. The feel of grass caressing his face and bare chest through the open front of his shirt. Wait...grass? That couldn't be right, he must have hit his head harder than he thought."Uh..." He groaned, shifting enough to reach a hand up and touch the top of his head. There was certainly the beginning of a knot forming under his dirty blonde hair. Lovely and embarrassing besides! It took a few moments for his head to clear enough to be able to push himself up.

Léonce sat up, resting his face in his hands. Perhaps that turn had been a little too ambitious, even for him. If anyone noticed him he would certainly look quite the mess right now, very embarrassing for anyone of the Court of the Night Blooming Flowers.

Ever since Adi had left two days' prior, Rio had been trying his very hardest not to worry himself to distraction, with limited success. What if something went wrong? What if something happened to her? While he knew, objectively, that Elik would keep her safe, he didn't know for sure, and wouldn't until Caoin returned to tell him so. He had, at times, been tempted to go to Ea's temple and fret at Orin, but always talked himself out of doing so. The wolfman would probably scold him for letting their daughter go at all, and maybe he would be right to.

Walking through the gardens, going through all of this for the thousandth time in his mind, he almost didn't notice the young man sitting in the grass. Almost. He looked rather a mess, which drew his attention and pulled him from his thoughts for the time being.

Changing course, Love approached to offer him a hand up. "Are you well?"

Léonce looked up, blue-grey eyes going wide at the sight of the gorgeous man in front of him. It took a moment to realize the he hadn't understood a word that had been spoken to him. The extended hand however, he understood, and reached out to take. Is this a dream? This has to be a dream. You can't be real? The young man spoke in somewhat hurried D'Angeline, a version of French. It didn't occur to him that this stranger might not understand him, either.

He started to stand, but it seemed his body had other plans. A wave of dizziness caught up with him and down he went back onto the grass, tugging the handsome stranger with him.

It took Rio a moment to process what the stranger was saying, and what language he was saying it in; he understood, but paused to wonder at the fact that he did, which distracted him and proved his undoing. He was caught quite off-guard when the young man who'd taken his hand fell backwards and took him with him! Love managed to put out his free hand to catch himself, just in time to stop himself from falling right onto the fellow. Poised with his body just above the other's, he grinned - part amused by and part sheepish at the momentary lack of coordination - before pushing himself up enough that he could then fall into a sit.

Can't be real? Are you sure? He shook the hand he'd used to catch himself, frowning at the slight twinge in his wrist. That didn't feel very much like a dream to me.

Léonce blushed considerably and mumbled something of an apology. His grey-blue gaze followed the stranger as he settled on the grass, an eyebrow raising when he was answered in his own tongue. I don't think you are D'Angeline... Though he was certainly attractive enough he might be mistaken for one. Where am I?
PostPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:25 pm

I'm not certain what it is to be D'Angeline, so I would guess that I am not. Stretching his wings behind him with a faint creak of sound, he regarded the man before him with a slight tilt of his head. Now that he had time to think about it, he placed the language as French. Hn. He'd never really realized...well, he'd think about it later. Matters of language were interesting, but not nearly as interesting as this stranger.

Rio blinked when he revealed that he didn't know where he was. Usually, by the time someone had come this far, they'd at least heard something of it, and often that was why they were here. This is the Pantheon.

How and why had he come to be here, and how had he hurt himself? Surely it had been some kind of accident, and no one here had taken it upon themselves to hit him over the head...at least, he guessed he'd hit his head somehow. That seemed the most likely explanation. You seem hurt. What happened?

A D'Angeline is what my countrymen and women are called, from Terre D'Ange. A people descendant from angels and blessed with beauty. It wasn't mere bragging, it was their history and birthright. Truly, he must be far from home then, if the man had never heard of it. How could I have come so far in the blink of an eye? Léonce sighed, feeling a greater headache starting than the one his fall had caused. His eyes closed and he partially covered his face with his hands again. Hopefully he hadn't caused himself any serious damage.

I am a dancer by trade. I was practicing in my studio and got over ambitious, fell and knocked my head on the floor. He had expected to wake up in his own room in Eglantine House, not in some garden in the middle of nowhere. I woke up here on the grass just before you found me. He slid his hands away from his face, only realizing now that he hadn't introduced himself.

Forgive my lack of social graces; I am not of Mandrake or Valerian, my body isn't accustomed to pain. A reference that would no doubt fly straight over the stranger's head. My name is Léonce nó Eglantine, you can call me Léonce or Leo, if it pleases you. He would've sat up and at least attempted a half bow, if it wouldn't have made his head swim.

Descended from angels? Well, he certainly wasn't going to argue that they'd been blessed with beauty, if this man was anything to go by. That was a matter to be mused upon another time, though. More important was that one moment, Léonce had been somewhere else, and now he was here with no explanation.

Oh, dear. Things like that didn't just happen. There was a good chance this was another host-to-be, like Two. At least this one hadn't fallen into the lake.

Love dipped his head in courteous acknowledgement of the greeting. I am Desiderio, but everyone calls me Rio. I would say it's a pleasure to meet you, but I'm not sure that's entirely appropriate, under the circumstances.

I fear I'm of little use in matters of medicine, but I can fetch someone who might be of more help, if you would like? He seemed perfectly coherent, which led Rio to suspect he hadn't done himself any real damage, but he was no expert.

I think I just managed to give myself a bump on my head. But it might be a good idea, just in case. Better to be safe than sorry! Léonce turned over on his side to face Rio. The pain in his head had dulled somewhat, which was no doubt a good thing. A name stemming from Desire, hn? A nice name, truly and well suited to him. Well met, my lord, Desiderio. Though, as pleasant as Rio was to the eye there was something strange about him, but Léonce couldn't for the life of him puzzle out what it was.

Very well. I'll be back soon. So off he went, back to his rooms to get Nashwa. His follower was no doctor, truly, her knowledge lying mainly in folk medicine, but it was definitely better than his own. As far as he knew, there were no gods of Medicine, Healing, or the like about - a goddess there had been, once, but none had heard from her in years.

The katta followed him back out several minutes later, and crouched by Leonce with a polite "Effendi." After waiting for Rio to introduce her, she felt gently at the stranger's head, and looked him in the eyes for a long moment. "He will be fine, I think."

She offered him a small piece of what looked like some kind of bark, and Rio supplied, Chew on that, it should help. It tastes terrible, though.

Léonce blinked at the katta, more than a little surprised. He had never seen anything that wasn't human in his life! A beautiful man named Desire, and now a cat woman. Are you entirely sure this isn't a fever dream? None the less he manage to be polite, the shock in his expression vanishing under the effects of long training. But he couldn't control the curiosity that lingered in his gaze.

Well met, and thank you for your help. Even if she couldn't understand his words, his gentle tone and manner would hopefully get the point across. He caught her hand gently when she was done checking his injury, pressing a quick kiss to the back of it before letting it go.

He laughed a little at Rio's comment, taking the offered remedy. Medicines often do. Usually the ones that taste the worst are the ones that work the best.

Nashwa looked momentarily surprised when the man caught her hand and kissed it, but she soon smiled at him, long whiskers twitching in an equivalent to a faint blush. She was somewhat accustomed to such gestures, living with Love, but didn't often receive them from anyone else. She nodded in understanding of the intent, and backed away. After a few words with Rio, she departed.

The god resettled himself in the grass. It's an unfortunate truth. What is good for you tastes bad, and what is bad for you tastes good. I wonder at the logic of who was responsible for making it so.

He broke off a small piece of one wing and offered it. Here. To help take the taste away.

Léonce reached out to take the offered piece from his wing.

Wait...WINGS? He hadn't even noticed the them until Rio had turned and broken off a piece. His gaze slid from Rio's wings, to his face then back and forth once again. It was the only explanation that made sense! Ah...Elua's balls...are you an angel? The young man hadn't even noticed the swear slipped past his lips. If he is...am I dead then?

He looked away and put the bit of bark in his mouth, chewing on it some while he tried to get a hold of his wits and composure again. The revelation was a bit much to process after a head injury.

The swearing didn't bother Rio; rather, it amused him, and he chuckled both at it and at the question. He'd thus far avoided rolling out what he was, so as not to overwhelm the poor man, but apparently all it took was having candy wings. And now that he'd been asked, he would answer. An angel? Ah, no, I am not an angel. I am the God of Love.

He calmly awaited whatever reaction might follow.

Léonce's eyes went wide and he coughed, nearly choking on the bark and ended up spitting it out on the grass. He turned to Rio again, staring and hid his hands so the god wouldn't notice they were trembling. Your telling the truth aren't you? Dear sweet Naamah... Rio might recognize the name as one of his own, likely one he shared with Khiviance. The D'Angeline deity of sexuality and desire.

He fainted then, falling over onto the grass.
