The day was comfortably warm and the breeze was soft and soothing. It was the perfect afternoon to sunbathe and that is just what Rosaline had done. She had settled herself down in a warm patch of sun amongst the flowers to warm her fur, but stayed until her entire core radiated with heat. This was one of the many things in life that she enjoyed. To be bathed in light was a joy, but to be groomed was even more so. Lazily she opened her slate blue eyes and gazed around her. The view of the field she was in was breath taking. Not so nearly as breath taking as she herself was though. This view could have been made better had she some of her normal followers to wait on her paw and flank, unfortunately none had come around for her today. And while it was nice to get away from her adoring fans from time to time, the company may have been welcomed for someone to groom her back and face. Such was the life of a famous Coeurl though. Others were there one second and gone the next. The only Coeurl that could be depended on was you.

Nonchalantly she licked her paw, roughing and smoothing the fur until it shown brightly in the light. Only then did she turn and begin the process of cleaning between her furry toes. With a strange sort of grace, Rosaline turned her head and cleaned her spotted shoulder with a rough tongue. This was the life. There was nothing more satisfying than this. With a content mewling she settled her head down on her freshly cleaned paws, closed her eyes and purred. Nothing could spoil the perfect day for her. Nothing.

Kiivus was so happy, the moment he got out of his cave he was hoping for a wonderful day. He was planning to go swimming on this day and it smelled of rain the day before but the cloud must have passed and now it was bright and sunny outside. He seemed to do a happy trot as he made a path to himself by patting his feet on the ground enough to never get lost from where his location was and where his cave was. Sometimes he had fits of not remembering because he was such a goof and he would go off and do something else. His hair rose as he was on his journey from the warm sun. "Ahh! Why are you feeling so good today?" He stopped to roll from how happy he really was. It was beating down on him and he just loved it. He stopped in a startled as he could smell another Coeurl not to far from him.

Big light brown eyes widened as he picked himself up and silently like a ninja took small steps to see her better. From the looks of it she was grooming, his tail seemed to wag in a pleased sort of motion as he seemed to purr under his throat at the thought of grooming himself. She had the right idea. On this day, so peaceful a good grooming was called for! But, after a good swim that is. Stepping over now a little less quiet he started to try and have a conversation with the female, "Pardon me, nice day we're having, huh? Excellent day for grooming. I have to say. I am jealous of your idea, I should have thought of grooming myself but I figured swimming would be better even though I have to say I am no fish." He chuckled.

Rosaline hadn’t noticed anything out of the ordinary that was how lost she had been in her own pleasure, that when a voice had called to her from thin air, she had been mildly startled. Her tail bristled, as did the rest of her fur momentarily in her surprise and she lifted her slate blue eyes toward the source of the voice. Those same eyes narrowed down to narrow slits against the light as she took in this tall, honey colored Coeurl with strange markings. With a scrutinizing gaze she broke him down, tore apart ever little detail that she could see of him before she sized him up. He was less than adequate. His fur was too coarse, his eyes easily lost among the spots on his face and completely the wrong shape for his giant head. Not to mention that his tail made him look as if he were having problems balancing on oversized dinner plate paws. Perhaps she had spoken too soon about nothing ruining her day... or perhaps she hadn't and this was just the distraction that she needed. She fluttered her eyelashes innocently at him, gave what may have been a snort or a sneeze and began to speak.

"Are you sure? You appear to be as greasy as one." The words rolled off her tongue with the greatest of ease and not a word seemed out of place or awkward. "I’m not so convinced that you ever groom from the looks of you." Once more she gave him the up and down. "Perhaps you have, but I would guess that it’s one of those 'I’ll groom once every full moon' deals." Behind her, her tail twitched in an amused sort of way. There was no one else here to be with her, so she supposed it couldn’t hurt to spare this poor unfortunate soul the time of day. "Would you like me to help you?" She offered, she would be more than happy to tell him all the ways that he could improve himself. Well, more like all the things that were wrong with him and then he could figure out how to improve himself by himself. She got to her paws, stretched and moved toward him in long, graceful strides. Slowly she circled him, attempting to see more of what she was working with. He was just as inadequate from these angles as he was from the one she had first saw him in.

Kiivus listened and making a face. This face was laughter that was being suppressed by what she was saying. He really thought she was being funny and not mean at all. After she was done he couldn't keep it in anymore and busted out with laughter that made him roll on the floor like a derp. "You know! ~ I would have to agree with you there, I have lacked on my grooming but I do love grooming it's one of my favorite things to do. So, I might as well be a fish at the moment for sure." Regaining himself and he was standing up again he let out a few more chuckles.

Then she offered to help him. His eyes grew big and bright. "R-really?!" He chased his tail out of happiness. "I would love to be groomed!" He said stopping and sitting. "If you do me, then I will do you and it could be a grooming cycle and I won't have to go out to swim today. I think that would be wonderful. No one has ever offered to groom me other than my own mother but it's been a long long while since I have seen her and oh gosh I am so excited." Paws seemed to pat in place. "Would you like me to sit or stand?" A big goofy tongue hung out.

The small female Coeurl eyed Kiivus as if he had gone completely out of his mind and slowly she backed up, her claws racked up several of the flowers as she went. What in the world was he laughing at? It wasn’t something to be laughed at when one looked like they had just crawled out of a muddy ditch where they were left to die. It wasn’t funny when one was so greasy that they might as well have been bathing in the oil extracted from the fish themselves. It just wasn’t funny. She supposed to herself that humor was the only way that these unattractive Coeurl could deal with their lives. Otherwise, what else did they have to live for? Slowly she relaxed, her claws retracting and the bodily bristle that had been building subsided. Carefully she gave her own small, false laugh before she sat down among the plant life.

Warily she eyed the male; he sure gave a strange reaction to her offer. It was not at all the reaction she was expecting. In fact, it sort of disturbed her. There was something definitely wrong with him if he thought that she was going to put her tongue anywhere near that tangled, mat of fur he called a coat. With a disgusted look she hissed and turned her nose up. "I most certainly will not groom your revolting excuse for a pelt! You must be out of your mind!" A thought came to her mind as she gazed at him. It was something that he father had said many a times. This coeurl must have been what he had only referred to as 'special'. He had said that something about them wasn’t all there in the head. And now she was starting to see just what it was he was talking about when he had called some of the cubs in the area such a thing. Her mother had disagreed strongly with using such language, but he had often gone behind her back to tell Rosaline about it anyway. He had wanted her to be prepared out there in the real world, a world where she would have to defend herself against others. No daughter of his would be going out into the world so unprepared. She cleared her throat and spoke to him again, more slowly than before. "Ehem, no. What I meant was that I would be willing to help you locate your flaws so that you could fix them."

Kiivus' jaw dropped and he looked at his paw and raised it to his face. He didn't think that his fur was that bad. Was it? He placed that paw down and took the other one and placed that one to his face again. "I don't know what you mean... I don't think I am that greasy. I mean, I cannot see my reflection in it. Now that would be greasy!" He placed it down and walks up to her a little but keeping distance between him and her because she seemed that she didn't want to be near him, which was fine because maybe he was stinky and didn't know it because he hasn't groomed for a bit.

He cocked his head at her and sat down. "Flaws?" He merely smiled and closed eye smile and snorted lightly. "Everyone has flaws, but I know mine pretty well. Do you know yours?" He asked curiously. "Have you ever pointed out your own flaws?" He reached for his tail and tucked it under his leg so it could stop moving so much, his own tail was distracting him from the conversation. "Oh! And, I have been really rude and I apologize but my name is Kiivus. I live not too far from here actually." Happy face.

What a stupid question! She had no flaws. Rosaline was perfect in every single way. There was nothing that this coeurl nor any other could say to convince her otherwise. At least that's what she wished she could say in the utmost honestly. A glimmer of doubt crossed her maw momentarily, and her expression weakened. In the back of her mind came that nagging little voice, that voice that sounded so much like a mixture of the ones that had raised her and crushed her spirit. As much as they squashed her, she squashed this small, nagging, annoying voice back down before the panic and discomfort could rise into her chest.

Rosaline's eyes narrowed into slits, her ears flattened against head head and once more her bodily bristled displayed itself in full once more. "That's a stupid question!" She hissed, here voice no more than a whisper. There was a restraint in the way she spoke, her words were clipped short and each one was placed in the sentence almost as if it had been carefully selected to make him understand. Or to make herself believe what she was saying. "Of course I've looked and guess what? I, unlike you, have no flaws. There is absolutely nothing wrong with me. I'm gorgeous, out of your league even. Goodbye, Kiivus." Abruptly she turned, her fur smoothing, her tail twitching in a fluid motion that clearly showed her irritation and settled herself down with her back to him. Once more she began to groom herself, ignoring the fact that he was right next to her, let alone existed.

His eyes crossed as he stared at her too hard listening to her as he shook his head and blinked, his maul shaped in a sad direction. He thinks he just upset her, she pretty much scolded him and then turned around. "I-..." He sniffled a little and started to walk off, big paws taking its time setting itself one after another. How could he? He made her sad. He shook his head and saw a beautiful flower under a willow tree nearby. Looking back he ran across the crunchy grass, trying to make it fast so she didn't leave him without his apology or something that would make her feel better. "I will make this better, I will make this better~!" He chanted to himself happily with his tongue out as the wind pressed against him. Nearly skidding to the tree he stopped himself picking up the flower with his teeth gently he ran back just as swiftly but carefully to not ruin the plant that was clenched in his teeth.

Quietly he walked in front of her and nervously he placed the Flower onto her paws and with a dorky grin he bowed his head. "If it makes up for anything, I think you and this flower have something in common. You're both beautiful at first glance but when you look closer you see that it's even more beautiful and something that you could not grasp that only nature can make something glow so vibrant in the sun. With the scent that lures you in you cannot help but come up to it and compliment the beauty that it possesses and thank it for being just to be." His tail now sunk under him as he got anxiety through his chest and he ran off towards the destination he once was going. Bath time for him to calm his nerves.

For the first time in her life Rosaline could only sit there, completely and utterly dumb struck. She had never had anyone insult her so badly one second and then praise her so highly the next. Her temper flared and died. Her vanity washed in and ebbed away. She was in conflict. She wanted nothing more than to crush this beautiful flower and crush the other coeurl’s spirit with it. But seeing as he had run off some distance away, farther than she was willing to move at the moment, she simply stared at it. And despite the fact that she wanted to destroy its beauty and his spirit with it, she wanted nothing more than to keep it and believe the words that he said. Her beautiful slate blue eyes narrowed and relaxed each time she gazed at it. She felt contempt for it one second and adoration for it the next. One moment she could find a reason to be furious with this coeurl that she did not know and the next she could find reasons to defend his foolishness. After all, he was nowhere near as intelligent as she was. That much was clear.

After she contemplated it for some time she decided that she would accept this apology, but only because he had brought her tribute. After all, her day was normally filled with tribute, and yet today there had been no one around to lavish her with gifts and praise, this simple flower would do for the day. The flower was quite beautiful and despite the fact that he was a slobbering moron, his words were beautiful. He thought that she was beautiful. And that was good enough. For the time being that was. Gently she leaned down to inhale the soft fragrance of the blossom and found it very much to her liking. It was soft and sweet and good. There was simply no other way to describe it. "You may not be so lucky next time, Kiivus..."Delicately she took the breakable flower between her jaws and gracefully got to her feet. She had grown tired of sitting in this field, and so she headed home.
