There was absolutely nothing better to do on a cold, cloudy day than stay at home, lounge in your pajamas, and humor yourself by doing your own thing. Jett had slept in until nine in the morning and awoke feeling far more refreshed than he had in a long time. His mother had already left for work—he’d meant to wake up and make her breakfast before she left though had forgotten to set an alarm the night before—so he was left alone in the house. He had the television in the living room on to some show he was counting on for background noise alone, though was enjoy puttering around in the kitchen. He didn’t really want to cook breakfast, however bacon and eggs was sounding just heavenly. He turned on the stove and left the pan atop it, though was quick to abandon breakfast when the timer on the coffee maker went off. He shuffled over to pour himself a mug of the steaming coffee.

Still wiping the sleep from his eyes, the aroma was enough to make him sigh in pure pleasure. It was still too hot to drink, but as soon as it cooled off a bit? Oh, yeah. That was way more heavenly than bacon and eggs. He could just toast a piece of bread or microwave some leftovers. All he needed was his coffee, a nice warm blanket, and to find something good on the television until he had woken up a bit more. Maybe get some ice for his bruises in a bit, just relax and let his muscles take a break from all the work he’d been doing. Yeah, that was starting to sound good, too.

Either way, he wasn’t going to do anything productive today, and that was just how he wanted it.

Millicent had cookies. She had spent almost all of her allowance on a few boxes of cookies, and she intended to spend the day eating them and watching Star Wars with Jett. She hadn’t told him yet, but she had been planning it for close to a week and a half. She was almost at his house now, and skipped the rest of the way, rocking back on her heals when she reached the door, then knocking on it, as hard as she could.

Boom. Boom. BOOM!

She did a little dance on the steps, trying to warm herself up just a bit. She hoped Jett would have hot chocolate…if he didn’t…she had a few packets in her bag along with the DVD’s and cookies! She was so prepared for this.

Jett had just gotten comfortable when he heard the banging and his first reaction was that someone had been hit by a car, was being chased by a serial murderer, or was coming to tell him that his house was on fire. That was not a normal knock, and therefore must mean something extraordinary was occurring.

Jett juggled the ideas in his head—did he really want to deal with someone being murdered?

Augh, damn it.

He pushed himself up from his chair, grumpy that he’d only just nuzzled in comfortably, and moved with a wide gait to the door. He didn’t seem rushed but went faster than normal as he unlocked the door and pulled it open.

He scanned the yard, first and foremost, looking for some blood-covered, chainsaw wielding psychopath—and frowned when he didn’t see one. His eyes drifted down to the doorstep and the frown deepened just a bit more.

Of course, Millie. How foolish of him, she should have been the first thing he thought of when he heard that obnoxious, loud, over eager knock. “Millie,” he greeted, trying not to sound unenthusiastic. “…Whatcha got there?” he asked, in a voice that sounded more suspicious than curious.

The child grinned up at Jett. “Good morning! I decided you were lonely today and that you and I were going to spend the whole day together. Isn’t that nice of me?” She pushed past him into the house, kicking off her shoes in the doorway.

“I brought cookies, Jett. Cookies and Star Wars! We can have fun all day and watch the movies, I even brought some hot chocolate, just in case you don’t have any. But I’m sure you do have some! Because you’re always prepared, right? Then I was thinking if we get tired of watching movies, we could go outside and play in the snow, it’s always fun to do that.”

Millicent finally grew quiet drew in a breath and looked up at her older friend. “Right?” She was so excited to spend the day with Jett, after all, she hadn’t really gotten a chance to in quite a while!

She...decided he was lonely? Jett reached up to scratch the back of his neck somewhat awkwardly; he had been looking forward to a nice, calm day...not...

The chill from outside was making him recoil deeper into his house, and he didn't want to deal with a disappointed Millicent, so shooing her away was out of the option. Never mind the fact that she already had her shoes off and was in his house.

Jett pushed the door closed, though left it unlocked. For some reason, that made him feel like less of a creep for having an eleven year old girl over at his place, alone. Instead of actually replying, he vocalized the thoughts dancing around in his head. Walking away from the door and rubbing at his now chilled arms as he headed towards the living room he said, "You know, you come over to my place more than my girlfriend."

By the time the door had closed, Millie was already kneeling by the television, putting a DVD into the DVD player. “Well,” She decided on A New Hope, that was one of the best, in her opinion. “If I’m over here more than your girlfriend is, then maybe that just means I like you more than she does.

Millie figured that this could very well be true, after all, Jett was her very best friend apart from Minny, so why wouldn’t she like him more than his own girlfriend did? “Also, Jett, if you don’t think she likes you much, you should just leave her. Isn’t that what people do?”

She wanted a boyfriend someday, but only if he was a great and powerful Jedi. But that would have to wait for another five whole years. Her mom had made a rule that she couldn’t date until she turned sixteen…that seemed like it was forever away.

Jett watched as Millicent moved to put in a DVD, moderately surprised at how well she had acquainted herself with the whole system. He lingered in the doorway and then just shook his head, deciding that she had this all worked out and went to try and get comfortable in his chair before she stole that, too.

He flopped into the chair and let out a little sigh; he was still very sore but discretely moved the ice pack so as to not draw attention to it. “Sometimes,” he answered. “But Raven likes me just fine. She’s just been busy. Plus,” he shrugged, moving the blanket over his legs to tuck himself in as he leaned back, “I usually take her out. Sometimes I just assume she thinks staying in is boring. You, however, appear totally fine just coming over and doing nothing for a few hours,” he said, far more amused than annoyed. He shrugged against the sofa chair he was in, nuzzling the pillow as he tried to get as comfortable as he had been before jumping up to get the door. “You sure you’re mom’s okay with you being over here…? She knows it’s just me, right? Mom won’t be home until late tonight.”

As the first sounds of the movie began playing, Millicent looked up at him, making a face. “Why would you even say that? Star Wars isn’t…sitting and doing nothing! It’s…it’s Star Wars! Duh!”

She stood, seeming to ignore the last bit of what he was saying for a moment, making herself comfortable on the couch, drawing a package of oreos out of her bag and tossing them to Jett. “Here you go. And yeah. Mom knows I’m here. But, I was supposed to have called you a week ago and asked if you wanted to babysit me. But, I figured we could just hang out instead. I used the money mom gave me to give you to buy the cookies and things.”

Well, that much was a fib, but she kind of wanted to get a rise out of Jett, just to see if he’d really get mad. It was only thirty dollars after all. “See, I could have spent the day with my dad, and he could have watched me, but I would rather just stay with you. You’re so much cooler now.”

Jett suddenly had a lot of things to consider. First, there were cookies he had no intention of eating Then there was Millie chatting about baby sitting. Then there was money. At least she was complimenting him.

He slowly rolled his head to look at the girl. “…You charged your mother to let you hang out with me?” he asked, one brow raised. “What a little fiend you are. I’ll have to call your mother and tell her what a sneaky monster you’re growing up to be.”

The Oreos in his lap, albeit not to his palette, were calling to him and he peeled back the plastic, drawing out a cookie. He didn’t try to eat it yet, just drew it to his eyes and half glared at it for tempting him in the first place.

Millicent laughed, opening her own package of cookies, eating one in one bite. “No!” She sputtered, crumbs flying from her mouth onto her lap. The child waited a moment, swallowing before continuing, just giggling. “My mom was going to pay you to hang out with me, but I figured you wouldn’t need the money, so I kept it for myself.”

She grinned at him, then ate another cookie, seeming just ever so pleased. As the movie started, Millie’s attention was pulled towards the screen, and she looked completely happy. This just had to be one of the best movies of all time…and…

Her head turned to Jett. “Hey! What do you think about them putting Episode One back in theaters? I think they just want more money…but I really want to go see it. I really do.”

Jett watched as Millie sprayed crumbs all over the floor he’d just vacuumed yesterday. He didn’t particularly care if she was keeping the money; she was right in that he didn’t really need it, but questioned if this dampened Bellatrix’s views on him since the woman no doubt assumed that she had to pay Jett to take Millicent off of her hands. “Next time, tell your mom to keep her money. And give me a call next time so I’m not, you know. Making plans to spend a nice, relaxing day by myself or anything. Not that I have anything against Star Wars. They’re doing it for the money,” he added as an afterthought to her question.

He lowered the cookie from his eyes and took a small bite, pushing it to one side of his mouth, and glanced at the girl so he could ask, “Why don’t you get you father to take you? He’s into that sort of things. Unless. You and your dad not getting along now?” He was a little curious about this when she said she’d rather stay with him today than her father, and now just seemed like a fitting time to ask.

Millicent nodded, eyes glued to the screen, almost absentmindedly licking the cream from an oreo. “Huh? Oh yeah. No money next time, okay. I’ll call…” She lapsed into silence, then glanced over to the blonde, when the questions about her father started to finally work their way into her brain. “Oh…I don’t know. I just…”

She shrugged, looking down at her package of cookies. “He’s just not a hero, I guess… “ The child sighed, slumping ever so slightly. “He wanted to take me to go see Star Wars in the movies…but…Every time we watch Episode one…” She grew very quiet, shrugging again, eating another oreo. She didn’t really seem to want to answer, and seemed very discouraged by the whole situation.

When she finished the cookie, however she looked to Jett, seeming very sad. “He just always cheers when Darth Maul cuts Qui-Gon in half…and I think that’s awful…And he always seems to want to make me into a Sith…” She had been reading more of that series of books, now about halfway through the series. “You see…” The next part that she was about to say…made her heart break. “In my books…In my books, Jacen…Jacen Solo…Jett, he’s gone to the dark side…and he’s trying to make Ben go dark too…”

In half a second, the child’s eyes were filled with tears and she scrubbed at them. “Jett what if my dad’s trying to make ME into a Sith? What am I supposed to do?”

Jett looked at the girl, surprised at the range of motions she was displaying. He hadn’t expected her to start crying but, then again, he hadn’t expected her to have come up with this whole conspiracy theory in the first place. He considered introducing her to Darwin, though wasn’t sure he wanted them to feed off of each other. He didn’t want to hear Millie’s take on Sith Squirrels so just sucked in a little breath and sat up straight, propping his elbow up on the armrest of the sofa chair.

Jacen was…her pig? No, wait. He was a book character, too. And Ben was…who, Obi Wan? That didn’t make a lot of sense, wasn’t…and they were kids, and…wasn’t Obi Wan dead? Who the ******** was Ben?

“Ah, Millie. I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m sure Jacen will snap out of it, he’s got…”

Oh, god damn it, what was her name?

“…His sister…and…you know, maybe your dad’s just really repressed and wishes he could have tattoos like Darth Maul’s. Those are some pretty bitchi—uh. Cool. Pretty cool tattoos. On his face.”

He cleared his throat, placing his cookie atop the plastic wrapping of the box. “…And anyway, even if he was, for whatever weird reason he’d be trying to make you into a Sith, you know it wouldn’t work. Because the force is strong in you and all that jazz, right? Good people don’t go dark side, so you don’t have anything to worry about. You should know that.”

She preached it all the time—how she wanted to grow up and be a Jedi. How could she go about doubting herself when it was her life goal?
PostPosted: Tue Feb 21, 2012 12:37 am

Millicent gave one last little sniffle, then nodded. Jacen did have his sister. And Tenel-ka! And Alanna! She wiped her nose on her sleeve and looked over to Jett, nodding again. “You’re right…I’m sure he’s gonna realize that he’s really going down the wrong path, and everything will end up all right in the end…I know it will.”

When Jett mentioned Darth Maul’s tattoos, the child gave him a sharp look. “Those are Sith tattoos, given when someone is a full Sith, and really, really evil…if my dad wants those, then I don’t want my dad anymore, you got that?” She brightened a little when he tried to convince her that she wasn’t going to go to the dark side, and nodded, relaxing. “All right…well, You made me feel better, Jett. You’re the best padawan ever…”

She grew quiet for a long moment, then looked over. “Do…you want to go see Episode One with me…? I’d rather go with you then with my dad…”

Jett was completely ignorant to Sith scars, so he just nodded while she was giving him the lecture; his intention had, of course, been to make her feel better (and to get her to stop crying) so he wasn’t going to complain. “You…want to go see it?” he asked, parroting the question despite the fact that he already knew what her answer was going to be.

The last time he had seen Star Wars in theatres had been years ago, and while he wasn’t much of a fan of 3-D, Millicent was easy to please. He didn’t want to feed into her addiction, but if her dad wasn’t doing his job, then what was Jett supposed to do? There was a nagging voice in the back of his head that said he should leave Garethon to be a father to his daughter, but his own doubts in the man urged him to help Millicent separate as much from her father as possible so when he let her down, it didn’t break her heart.

“Yeah, I guess we could go do that. Kinda wanted to see it, too,” he said, despite having had very little interest in paying to go see a movie he’d A) already seen and, B) was probably going to get a headache from. “I was just a kid the first time I saw it in theatres. Younger than you. Lot younger than you are, now.”

He was quiet for a moment, and then leaned back in his chair, eyes drifting to the television. “My dad took me.”
