It wasn't often that Cheveyo left his herd for any great length of time - and yet once in a while circumstances dictated that he had too - and while some might not think this particular situation required it Chev knew that it did. Mercy - his adopted daughter - was getting far to brave for her own good and while that wasn't always a bad thing Chev knew that he had raised Mercy in such a sheltered manner that she was liable to get herself into some terrible trouble when she did finally venture out on her own for good.
Looking back on things the little stallion knew he had done the Alicorn a bit of a disservice with this upbringing but at the time - being shortly after Syn's mother had left - he simply couldn't help pouring all the attention he could on the abandoned foal. No matter how different she had been from the rest of the herd. Mercy had been his escape and perhaps it hadn't been fair to her but he was going to make up for it now. He was going to make sure that Mercy would be more then well prepared for life on her own, and simply hope that she wouldn't hold things against him when she realized just how sheltered her foal hood had been.
Pushing such thoughts to the back of his mind Chev glanced up to check his location - he ought to be arriving in Ironforge's territory sometime soon if he recalled the shaggy stallions directions properly - and he was pretty sure he did, Chev had a decent sense of direction after all.
Despite the serious nature of this meeting Chev found himself looking foreward to seeing Ironforge again - it had been a good deal of time since the two had crossed paths but Chev recalled the other stallion fondly and was eager to catch up on his friends life.

Ironforge had set out early this morning so that he might escape the herd before some emergency held him back - typically he would never do such a thing but typically he wasn't expecting a visitor either. The shaggy stallion simply didn't have enough friends to make such encounters commonplace really, although he expected that even if he did the little stallion Cheveyo would hold a special place in his heart given their history with one another.
His plot to disappear early seemed to have paid off however as no one had come bounding along to fetch him and he had managed to make it to the very edge of the herds territory. If Chev recalled the directions he had sent then the little usdia should be arriving along this path at any time - well as long as he hadn't been held back by his own herd. Ironforge would wait if he had - if anyone could understand the demands a herd placed on someone it was he..and he imagined that it was only worse if you actually ran the herd rather then simply being the second in command as he was.
However it looked like no such demands had been placed on his friend as only a few moments after thinking such thoughts Ironforge noted movement through the brush and seconds latter spotted the small but well known form of his friend heading towards him. Stepping out from the shaded area where he had been waiting Ironforge called out to him cheerfully "Chev! It's good to see you again!"

Cheveyo was almost certain that he was in the right spot - yes there was the moss ridden boulder that Ironforge's directions had spoken of, and the secondary path that splintered off right afterwards. It was nice to see that the Owl who had delivered the directions had done so accurately - once in a while directions relayed through multiple other animals tended to get a bit...warped...along the way. He was glad that it hadn't happened this time - imagine going out to get worldly help for your daughter only to get lost yourself, wouldn't that be embarrassing?
In any case Chev was sure that the herd itself would not be too much further along the path and with luck he would reach them before noon - before he had gone another ten steps however a familiar voice called out from the path ahead and glancing a bit to the side Chev beamed a warm look as he spotted his long time friend emerging from the shade. Picking up the pace Chev trotted the last little ways between him and the shaggy stallion "Ironforge!" He returned the other stallions greeting warmly "Likewise, It's been far to long!" He added sincerly..and realized that it truly had been, in the furture he would need to make a bit more of an effort to keep in touch, regardless of herd duties...it was never a good thing to only keep up with friends when one needed something from them although he was pretty sure that such a thought had not even crossed Ironforges mind.
"I didn't expect a personal greeting" He continued on as he reached the other stallion "I expected that you would be caught up with herd duties and the like"

Ironforge laughed lightly as the other stallion expressed his thoughts about being greeted so "Well to be honest I snuck off before anyone had a chance to distract me with such duties" The shaggy stallion admitted "But they'll forgive me..its's not often that I have visitors come my way" He told the smaller stallion.
Stepping sideways he motioned with his muzzle towards a half hidden pathway "the herd is not to far along the path there" He told Chev "We can catch up on things along the way and have a bite to eat once we arrive" He continued on, stepping sideways so that Chev could walk beside him as they started down the pathway, adjusting his stride so that he didn't outdistance the smaller stallion "It looks like the directions got to you well enough? You made pretty good time" He started out conversationally as they headed down the pathway.
Ironforge knew that his friend had come to him for help of some sort although the message he had received had not hinted at exactly what type of help Chev had needed. It would be impolite to rush straight into such things however and if the little stallion was in need of some type of personal help then Ironforge was sure that the other stallion would get to it the point in good time.

Walking along with the other stallion Chev chuckled slightly "Ah I see - well once in a while even those in charge meed a little break" He commented with a wink of conspiracy at his friend. "but yes the instructions were relayed without issue thankfully, I'll have to remember to thank the owl when next I see him" Which given how fond the owl was of Mercy Chev didn't think would be all that long - in fact he wouldn't be completely surprised if the owl did not decide to accompany the alicorn when she made her trip down this way.
Thinking of Mercy of course brought back to Chev's mind the entire reason for his meeting with Ironforge and while he was anxious to find out how his friend was doing with his life he was also anxious to get the reason for his visit off his chest. "I imagine that your curious about why I've come all this way" He ventured, somewhat unsure about how to begin. In the end Chev decided that it would be best to just spit it all out really. "It's about my daughter Mercy..I'm worried about her..and I think you can help"

Ironforge remained silent as Cheveyo finally got to the reason he had traveled all this way, the shaggy stallion knew that he would get there eventually - it was simply a matter of waiting patiently for him to work up to it. "Mercy.." Ironforge repeated, attempting to place the name with a face even though it had been so very long since he had traveled to visit his friend and his family. It took a while but after a few moments he thought the proper memory came to the surface. It was a bit annoying really to have to sit and think about it for so long - and only underlined something Ironforge already knew, that he had to take more time out to spend with his friends from time to time.
"That's the young foal you adopted yes?" He finally asked, vaguely recalling the wobbly alicorn foal his friend had taken in shortly before his very last visit. "What has you so worried then?" He finally asked, Chev was a capable and experienced father so surely it had nothing to do with such simple mundane problems - and there's no way he would have traveled so far for such a reason. Which only raised the question as to what exactly the problem was and pausing in their trip to the herd Ironforge let his brows raise in a questioning manner as he awaited his friends reply.

Chev nodded in confirmation when his friend spoke of EMrcy, it was surprising really that he recalled her - she had been but a filly the last time he had seen her, barely out of her basket and wobbling about on legs that seemed to long to balance on. How quickly those times had passed and like all of his children Chev often found himself wishing that he could keep them small and little forever. An impossibility of course and now he had grandchildren to occupy his time and thoughts in such a manner.
"Yes, that's her" He told the larger stallion with a warm look on his face "She's a good girl, Mercy..but I fear that maybe I sheltered her a bit to much and unlike the rest of the herd whose ground bound ways makes traveling away from our sheltered grove a bit more difficult...she can fly..and she's been wandering further and further away, I'm afraid that she's so good natured and so very trusting about everyone she meets that she won't know what to do or how to take care of herself in the larger world when she gets there..and she will, she's far to curious about things to stay safely in the grove forever " He told the stallion with a slight sight. "I was hoping that perhaps you could...train her, or at least guide her a little bit..." He suggested in a hopeful voice, letting his voice trail off in uncertainty just a little bit at the end.

Ironforge stilled slightly at his friends request..it was true that he was no longer the solitary seclusive creature that he had been when he and Chev had first met, that he had come to terms with the need for him to return to society, to help make right the wrongs he found in the world, to make use of his talents for the right reasons rather then the wrong ones as he had before.
But he had only just lately finished working with Kale and now had his son to train as well, a young and hot headed stallion that was sure to test even his great patience...to take on another would be difficult and yet teaching even one more student to follow an honorable and worthy lifestyle would do much to help this world, to right the wrongs that he had committed so very long ago. But at the same time it was one thing to train an adult stallion who made his own decisions and to train ones own child..but to take responsibility for the child of a good friend? It was enough to give Ironforge pause but when he heard the hopeful tone and took in the worried look on his friends face there was little that he could do but agree and nodding his head decisively Ironforge heard himself answer almost before he had fully come to the decision himself "Of course I will"

For a little while Cheveyo wasn't sure if Ironforge would agree, for a few brief seconds the shaggy stallion seemed caught in some sort of internal struggle but the moment passed quickly and relief flooded the little stallion body as a great weight was lifted from his shoulder's. "I was hoping that you would say that" He told the other stallion sincerely.
Starting forward again as they had paused to have this important bit of discussion Chev sought to a return to the lighthearted conversation they had been having before this subject had come up - there would be time enough later one to discuss the finer details of the arrangements - such as wen Mercy would be sent, what she would be expected to do and learn and how she might get all the way over here safely - Chev certainly wasn't about to let her make the trip on her own. "Come on, I'm sure your herd of tired of waiting for your return" He told his friend "And I'm starving" He added, picking up the pace and chickling slightly when he heard Ironforge following along behind him and echoing his sentiments.
