Yaya

Maybe it was old habits, or perhaps she'd developed a love of water, but Yaya found herself strolling paws deep in the shallow end of the watering hole. Birds scattered through out the reeds as she startled them. The cream colored lioness was enjoying the mud betwixt her toes, it was a soothing feeling at the end of a long hunt. The group of huntresses had returned with kills in toe, and now was a time for her to relax.

Life was swell for the scatter brained lioness, she'd found love, and what she hoped was family. Kubwa's family was large, his sister had many children, and their children, and cousins, brothers, sisters, it was hard for Yaya to keep all of them straight in her mind. As she splashed lazily in the water she tried to sort through names and faces. She wanted Kubwa to know she was in this for the long hall, even though so many things were different about them, they had found true love.

Recently promoted, Shani had never felt quite so busy before- not with something that wasn't cubs! It was strange, having more responsibility i such a different way, but she was loving it. Habu had his own new responsibilities, too, and she was very proud of him and they were both very happy. It was all she ever really wanted.

While Habu was busy and she had some free time, Shani decided to go down to the waterhole to see what was going on- and see who was out and about now. It didn't take her long to spot a familiar face- a couple, in fact, but one was of particular interest to her. She didn't know enough about Yaya yet, though she had been around for some time and she knew how happy Kubwa was now..

"Good afternoon, Yaya!" she greeted, stepping up alongside the other lioness.

"Hello, Shani!" She beamed loudly and stepped toward the Head Huntress, Yaya nearly lost her footing in the soft mud, but recovered in a comical way, that left her legs a little too far apart.

"A lovely hunt, wasn't it?" Yaya couldn't say she'd been particularly helpful, but she was trying to show that she could be useful to the pride she wanted to call home. She wracked her memory trying to recall the name of Shani's oldest girls, Anya was one..and the other's..she couldn't pull off the tip of her tongue. They were all decent hunters, Kubwa has said they were all trained by Shani.

"It was," she agreed brightly, smiling at Yaya as she stumbled over to chat with her, "Hard to argue with results! You look a bit tired out." Shani glanced down to the way Yaya's feet, meaning no offense by it- they all definitely deserved a break, there was no shame in that.

"How are you finding hunting as a group?" she asked, "I can't imagine switching hunting styles that drastically."

Hunting as a group was all she knew, she was an excellent huntress but she might have starved if she was left to herself. Lucky for her, she never intended to let that happen.

Yaya took no offense to what was spoken and straightened out her posture so she was standing up straight. Soaking her feet in the water was taking some of the tension out of her legs. "I'm beat, I'll probably find Kubwa later and fall asleep right away." she laughed, a smile spreading across her face as she mentioned Shani's brother.

"The game is much larger, and tastier," she nodded, "Before I had to be a lot more stealthy, and I could go hungry for awhile. Here, it's amazing how well everyone does..I never thought of all the benefits of staying in a pride..I thought at first I was here just for Kubwa." She paused thinking before she stated the rest of her thought.

"But, having other's to rely on, it's sort of like a big family."

Shani's smile changed ever so slightly at the mention of her brother, she was happy he finally settled down. It had taken him long enough, the poor guy! And she definitely liked Yaya and the way she talked about Kubwa.

"It is," she agreed, "That's one of many reasons I don't think I could ever be a rogue, I am very happy here- and I'm glad you are too!"

It seemed so superficial a conversation but that was why Shani needed to talk more with Yaya. Small talk was nice but it was a little awkward after a point- she worried she might push them to that point.

Yaya was too flighty to realize a conversation was so superficial, and she continued on with her tiny small talk. How else was she going to converse with her lover's younger sister? Their was a bit of a budding friendship there, and perhaps overtime their conversations would become more deep and profound, but Yaya wasn't the type to come out with any true philosophical gems.

In a way in the period of time she had been with Kubwa she'd left him take care of any and all of the more.. cerebral decisions, she wasn't exactly paw-candy, but she didn't have much to say that didn't come out as if her head were filled with air. Her actions followed suit with that, she was just a happy-go-lucky lion, who had floated from place to place.

"It's been much better, I could never go back to the way it was before," she wrinkled her nose and shuffled her feet in the water, "I like having a full stomach, and lions to talk to that I don't have to worry about approaching. Everyone here is so nice, particularly your wonderful family, all of your children!"

Shani was not personally close to many rogues or former rogues but she liked to hear that Yaya was so happy in the pride now, this was how it should be! And how she always imagined it for former rogues. It was nice to have a specific example to go back to if ever she felt any doubt about it.

"There are an awful lot of us," she agreed with a laugh, "And always so many cubs."

She paused to think about it. It seemed to go in cycles, there were always many, many cubs in the family- though Habu's family was the busier side of things this time around. Last time it had been more on her side. But perhaps her perception was skewed. Last time, Enzi and Kafara had many, now they only had Fahari.

"I've been trying to learn names, "she nearly blushed explaining why, "I want Kubwa to know I'm here forever - if he'll have me, he's had such a hard time in the past..." Yaya knew she didn't have to explain, Shani knew about Kubwa's children and all the failed relationships. She had a hard enough time remembering things, then adding in family who look similar, but are different, and who is who's kid..there were just so many!

"Cubs are nice, would be nice, " she mused aloud, Yaya'd wanted to bring up the idea of trying to Kubwa, but was afraid it would turn him away. They would have such a large family, something she knew she wanted for her future..all of Shani and Wahabu's family together.

"Thanks, you know..for originally suggesting I stay."

PostPosted: Wed Feb 15, 2012 7:24 pm

"Don't worry too much about it," she said reassuringly when Yaya seemed embarrassed about her trouble remembering names and her reason to want to learn them, "Sometimes I get confused and I'm their mother, or grandmother."

Enzi and Kafara had so many cubs from so many litters now, poor Fahari had been called all kinds of names belonging to his brothers- and she wasn't the only one who did it.

When Yaya mentioned cubs, Shani smiled but she didn't know how to respond. That was a very personal decision, one that could be especially tricky in a new setting, surrounded by new family and in a relationship with someone who already had cubs, and none in simple circumstances.

"I knew you'd fit in," she said, beaming when Yaya thanked her.

It was reassuring that even Shani confused some of them, although Yaya was sure she was just trying to be nice. She respected the Head Huntress, she'd done a lot for her family, from what Kubwa had said, and she was even taking on more responsibility for her pride.

Yaya let out a large yawn, her maw stretched to it's limits, quickly tried to recover not meaning to be rude, "It truly has been a long day, I think I better continue with the plan to find Kub and sleep." She shook her paws in the water and walked onto the shore line, all the tension and stress held in her paws and legs forgotten.

Shani watched Yaya yawn, expecting what came next. She nodded, "Of course, you go rest." Starting to feel tired out herself, Shani was looking forward to relaxing but she was determined not to go home just yet. She moved closer to the water's edge before laying herself down. If she was going to stick around, she would do it comfortably!

"Have a good evening, Yaya!"
