Sar was wandering in the new zone of not too far away today. Tala was busy with Tezcacoatl or something and he didn't like not examining things, so he'd wandered off the a direction he and Tala hadn't explored. Of course he couldn't go as far without Tala into the unknown area, but it was still further along than he used to be able to do when he was really small.
There were small prey here that he could hunt too. He'd finally graduated from bugs to nonbugs. Small nonbugs, but still it was a step up. And good thing. He'd run out of inscets to examine a while ago. Tala's friendship had distracted him from this unfortunate happening, but now he was farther from the den and had new specimens to learn about. Like that desert hedgehog over there. That should prove a challenge and interesting subject.
Now how to pounce it with hurting himself? Sar prowled his choosen prey and circled it around and around at a great distance. He wanted to catch it unawares, but he also wanted to observe it in its natural behavior. Especially if he couldn't pounce it.

The grey cub was wandering away from momma, something she rarely did if she could help it. But today she felt the call to just take some time to herself. It seemed to work out though because the scene before her was going to prove amusing sooner or later. She smiled and began heading closer to the older cub. He was still clearly young but she was still much younger.
"What do you think you are doing, anyway?" She asked, arching an eyebrow and huffing. If she could have she likely would have had her paws on her hips.
"It might just be me, but that seems a pretty stupid thing to do." She said, observing his attempt to get at the hedgehog. He wanted quills in his nose? She would just have to watch.

Sar jumped at the voice. He'd been so focused on the hedgehog that he'd not paid attention to his surroundings. It seemed to be something he did too often when he was engrossed in his experiments and examinations. Even his thoughts and observations seemed to distract him from his surroundings. He needed to over come that little weakness. The quicker the better.
Looking around for the owner of the voice, Sar found a little gray girl cub. He huffing was kind of snobby. "It is just you." He turned back to the hedgehog which was now on high alert. "Great. Now all I can do is observe it. Thank you."

She frowned. Obviously this kid was confused. "Don't you know anything?" She asked, and stepped closer so that she stood beside him, staring down at the hedgehog. Truth was, the hedgehog wasn't nearly as big as the cubs. But she was still certain it was a tad mroe dangerous than he was thinking.
"That thing will poke you right in your face. I just don't want to hear you crying." She nodded. She wasn't trying to be mean, but Illyeria could be a tad bit abrasive. Or so momma said, Illyeria herself had no idea what that meant.

Sar tried not to heave a much put upon sigh, but he didn't completely succeed. "Yes, I know the hedgehog animal sticks its quills into things they find threatening, but I was completely willing to take that risk for the better of science and knowledge. Besides," Sar said looking away from the hedgehog to the lioness, "I have friends to take care of me when science becomes too dangerous. They've already proven more than capable to pull out a few quills."
Sar refocused on the now hyper aware hedgehog. "Not that it matters anymore. It's so scared and aware, it won't even go about it's normal routine." Sar sighed, not at the lioness this time but at the frustration of having to let a research subject go. He hated doing that even though the hedgehog was worse than useless to him. Sar always felt like he was letting the pursuits of knowledge and science down when he was forced to do that. This time was worse. Mom was even calling him to eat a meal. Sar really needed to learn how to pay attention to his surroundings when he started to do his research. Obviously, anything could happen.
Or anyone.
"Well, since you've managed to ruin a perfectly good research subject, I'll leave to destroy some else's pursuit of knowledge." Maybe he could find something else of interest on his way away from here. Hmmm. Maybe a mole or something. Something that didn't usual show itself in daylight or sunlight. That would prove to be interesting.

Illyeria wasn't really concerned that she had messed up his investigation. She didn't care whatsoever. She cocked her head, watching the hedgehog, though she arched her eyebrows in response to Sar. She had seen the cub around a few times, but she didn't really know him. She figured she should try to make friends, but sometimes that was hard when you were as bossy as she was.. And she didn't plan on changing! "What are you bettering for science by being attacked by a hedgehog? Survival of the fittest?.." She trailed off for a moment, narrowing her eyes. There was no way he was really this silly right? What could you learn besides what everyone already knew? Everyone knew to beware them, wasn't that what you could lean? This guy had it backwards.. "Why leave? I could use the company." She said, prancing along beside him as he went to move. She was willing to go where he was. She really was desperate for attention. "The goofy ol' hedgehog wasn't any fun anyway."

Sar bit back a rather nasty come back and ground his jaws together. The gray cub was after all only a cub and not a junior scientist like himself. But still. "If only survival of the fittest would apply itself now." He muttered as he noticed the cub following. "That's the whole point of science. To learn the things that are not already known by everyone. Who knows what you can learn from everything and everyone. If we didn't have curious creatures who act like scientists, we wouldn't know what plants to digest to help a stomach ache or which ones help keep wounds from festering into nasty puss oozing things."
Why him? What god decided that he was going to be this girl's focus point and social behavior experiment? Because she was keeping up with him, not just following any more. In fact she was prancing. And her prancing was keeping from walking away. Apparently gods didn't just curse lionesses into being young forever. They could curse you with a cub that didn't know when to take a hint.
"Yes, well, I could use the silence to find another subject to study since you decided to butt into the last one. Where's you mother? Or father? Or siblings? Surely you have lots of those? I have nine littermates alone and tons of older siblings." And if his family was that big, and so were most of his friends' families then surely her family had to be teeming with better equipped subjects to annoy.

She was oblivious to his hints. She wasn't the most observant, but she didn't care to try either. She shrugged and continued walking next to him. He didn't seem too happy to have her following, from his tone. Oh well. She wanted someone to talk to, this guy just happened to be the target. "Pff. To each their own I guess. Though it's silly." She didn't care about science then, if that's what science was. She could think of far more important things to do in life, besides watching hedgehogs hoping to catch something someone missed. "I have lots of siblings. But I don't hang out with them much. They aren't any fun." Though this guy was proving to be far from fun too. Why weren't there more fun lions around? Oh well, she would take what she could get.
