Below are the basic requirements to be promoted to each rank.

Officer Ranks
Chief Novus Commander: O-11
- Must be appointed as Chief Novus Commander/Guild Captain.
*Note: This rank is retained by all past and present CNC's.
- No record of disciplinary issues within eight months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than one active member with this rank.
General: O-10
- Must be appoint as Chief Novus Executive Officer
- No record of disciplinary issues within eight months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than one active member with this rank.
Lieutenant General: O-9
- Must be appointed as General of the Air Force
- No record of disciplinary issues within seven months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than one active member with this rank.
Major General: O-8
- Must be appointed as Air Force Executive Officer.
- No record of disciplinary issues within seven months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than one active member with this rank.
Brigader General: O-7
- Must be appointed as an Element Commander.
- No record of disciplinary issues within seven months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than one active member with this rank (per Element).
Colonel: O-6
- Must pass the General Test (must be O-5 for a minimum of three months before taking the General Test)
- 200+ posts after becoming O-5
- No record of disciplinary issues within six months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than four active members with this rank.
Lieutenant Colonel: O-5
- Must be appointed as an Element Commander, or;
- 200+ posts after passing the CommanderTest.
- No record of disciplinary issues within six months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than five active members with this rank.
Major: O-4
- Pass the Commander Test (must be O-3 for a minimum of three months before you can take the Commander Test)
- No record of disciplinary issues within six months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than six active members with this rank.
Captain: O-3
- Have a total of at least 400 posts.
- No record of disciplinary issues within five months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than ten active members with this rank.
First Lieutenant: O-2
- Have a total of at least 300 posts.
- No record of disciplinary issues within five months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than fifteen active members with this rank.
Second Lieutenant: O-1
- Be of the current rank no lower than E-8.
- Pass the Officer Test (must be either E-8 or E-9 for a minimum of three months before you can take the Officer Test)
- No record of disciplinary issues within five months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than twenty active members with this rank.
Enlisted Ranks
Chief Master Sergeant: E-9
- 300 posts since joining
- Recommendation from an individual of O-3 rank or higher
- No record of disciplinary issues within six months prior to promotion.
- Must pass the NCO Chief Test (must be E-8 for a minimum of 3+ months before taking the NCO Chief Test)
**Note: Never more than four active members with this rank.
Senior Master Sergeant: E-8
- 200 posts since joining
- Must pass the Advanced Knowledge 2 Test (must be E-7 for a minimum of 2+ months before taking the Advanced Knowledge 4 Test)
- No record of disciplinary issues within six months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than six active members with this rank.
Master Sergeant: E-7
- 180 posts since joining
- Must pass the Advanced Knowledge 1 Test (must be E-6 for a minimum of 2+ months before taking the Advanced Knowledge 1 Test)
- No record of disciplinary issues within six months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than ten active members with this rank.
Technical Sergeant: E-6
- Must pass the General Knowledge 2 Test (must be E-5 for a minimum of 2+ months before taking the General Knowledge 2 Test)
- No record of disciplinary issues within six months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than fifteen active members with this rank.
Staff Sergeant: E-5
- 125+ posts since joining
- No record of disciplinary issues within three months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than twenty active members with this rank.
Senior Airman: E-4
- Must pass the General Knowledge 1 Test (must be E-3 for a minimum of one month before taking the General Knowledge 1 Test)
- No record of disciplinary issues within two months prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than twenty-five active members with this rank.
Airman First Class: E-3
- 50+ posts since joining.
- No record of disciplinary issues within one month prior to promotion.
**Note: Never more than thirty-five active members with this rank.
Airman: E-2
- Pass the Basic Training Test.
- 25+ posts since joining.
- No record of disciplinary issues within one month prior to promotion.
**Note: No limit.
Airman Basic: E-1
- Automatically granted upon joining the NAF.
**Note: No limit.
