Imara had gotten kicked today, so she wasn’t very happy. She wasn’t too mad, either, because even though she had gotten kicked she had still killed the zebra, with the help of some other lioness, because pridelanders did that kind of thing, called teamwork. But still, getting kicked sucked, so she was mad at the zebra for having kicked her.
She wasn’t hungry so she had left the kill to the others, except for the tail. Tail was hers, because they were fun to play with. She had found a nice rock out in the plains, a big flat one she was sure many lions probably liked to lay down on, and so she laid down on it.
She supposed it wasn’t too bad, because she had the stupid little zebra tail to play with. Even if her sides were all sore.

Hadaya was enjoying this new place, and he was very much indebted to his new friend for showing it to him. He was pretty sure he had found a new home, which he loved just the idea of. There was a lot for him here, he was sure of it.
He was walking around when he spotted Imara not too far off. It was easy to recognize her now, plus she was laying on a rock in the middle of the plains. Her dark fur made her easy for him to see. He padded toward her, and only as he drew close did he start to worry about waking her up if she was sleeping.
He slowed. Maybe he should come back later...
But he saw she was awake and he smiled at her, tilting his head.
"How goes the day, Imara?" he asked jovially, spotting the zebra tail. He didn't see a zebra around here, so he imagined she must have just come from a hunt. Or there was a very sad zebra wandering around, trying to find its tail.

Imara had, at first, been a bit preoccupied with fussing with the zebra tail between her paws, scratching along the tiny little stripes on it. But movement did catch her eyes and she found Hadaya approaching. She had known he seemed to like this place, and had met him a couple times afterwards.
She found she was okay with him, all in all. He was pretty nice, even though she wasn't very much. Besides, it was good that he was sticking around, because then she would know where to find him when she wanted to see the sea.
"I got kicked by a zebra." Imara replied, toying with the tail between her paws. Zebra should think twice before kicking her, even if she was trying to kill them. "Did you ever get kicked by a zebra, Hadaya?" Because she had actually talked to him a few times, and he never seemed to mind her, Imara actually felt rather comfortable around Hadaya, which was nice. Maybe she actually had a friend, or something. That was cool. Like a pridelander!

Hadaya regarded Imara quizzically and then with a look of distress when she said she was kicked by a zebra. He had been kicked by many things, and anything that had hooves always hurt the most.
He sat down in that abrupt way of his, watching her with his warm eyes.
"I have been, and it hurts a lot. Are you okay? Did it kick you somewhere... where did it kick you?" he changed his question mid course, realizing he wasn't asking what he had wanted to ask the first time. He was looking her over for any visible wounds, but of course bruises and broken bones weren't always visible.
He hoped nothing was broken.
"I hope that tail belongs to the one that kicked you," he said, not liking it when prey beasts got away with getting the better of lions and other hunters. Which happened a lot, when that hunter was Hadaya.

It was her turn to look confused at his apparent alarm. What, was getting kicked that big a deal? "Yes, I'm fine." She furrowed her brow slightly, then tilted her head to indicate her side. "Kicked me there." Of course it was a very general gesture, all she could really indicate was 'somewhere on my left side'!
She couldn't help but laugh at his comment. "Hah! You do have a mean bone." That was pretty funny, Hadaya had so far seemed a very amiable guy. "Yeah. I wouldn't let it get away." Even if it had escaped her, Imara was possibly the sort who would make sure to specifically stalk the zebra that had once kicked her, granted she could be sure enough of its identity. Zebra all kind of looked the same.

Hadaya scooted a little closer and inspected her side. He bent to give her a light lick, then looked at her and smirked a bit. He couldn't do anything for a bruise from a kick, of course, but it was the thought that counted?
"I just don't like the idea of you being hurt," he said, as if confessing. He smiled dumbly, ears slightly back, as they often were when he was feeling awkward. Which made often seem like an understatement.
"It's not mean! It's just... they're our food! They shouldn't be kicking us. i mean. I suppose I understand they don't want to die... still..." he felt guilty now, but he was still glad she had gotten it in the end. He shook his head, smiling again after a brief moment of guilt.
He watched her, his expression serene, and almost relaxed. He enjoyed her company, and didn't find it difficult to be himself around her. He didn't have to stumble all over himself just to impress, as he got the idea that nothing he did would impress her either way. And that was a good thing, because he liked being able to relax. Be himself.
"Anyway, I'm glad you're not too hurt, and you got it back for the hassle."

It was too unexpected an action for Imara to even react against, being licked, so all she could do was stare at him with a quirked brow. Eehhh... okay, then! She was also pretty surprised by what he said. He didn't like the idea of her being hurt? The dark lioness was unexpectedly touched by this, about as much as she was weirded out. And she was pretty weirded out.
She couldn't help her lips pulling back in a crooked smile. "You're a strange one, Hadaya."
"I still say it's a mean bone." She insisted, because he was vengeful, or something. On a zebra! "But that's alright. I have mean bones." Imara had plenty mean bones. She was doing her best to break them, though. She only intended to keep a few, because it was good to have them sometimes. Like when zebra kicked you.
"Er, yeah, thanks." She wasn't quite sure what she was saying thanks to, and it was odd for her to say thanks to anything. Perhaps she was thanking him for being glad she wasn't hurt. Sounded pretty stupid, but, oh well.
Not quite knowing what to do next, she half-heartedly tossed the zebra tail at him.

"Well, if it's a mean bone then it's a good one to have," Hadaya said with a nod, "as long as it's not for other lions." He smiled sheepishly, nodding his head when she called him strange.
He'd been called worse.
The zebra tail landed on his face, as he wasn't expecting her to toss it. It was sitting on his muzzle, near his nose, and he crossed his eyes to look at it in wonder. He laughed and shook his head, then chased it as the tail bounced off.
Picking it up in his teeth, he brought it back to her. He settled on the ground in front of her, laying down and holding up his head to offer her the tail again. She was higher than he was because she was on the stone, but he didn't mind that.
"Diff iff youphs," he said.

She nodded, because that was fair enough. Imara still had mean bones for other lions, probably. She'd keep at least one of those, break the others. Maybe she should keep one mean bone for each subject.
She was seriously thinking about mean bones in a very dumb way now. What was going on here? She shook her head to get rid of the silly thoughts, only to focus on Hadaya and the zebra tail. Hah! It had even balanced on his nose, Imara almost even congratulated herself for the good aim. Or maybe congratulate him for being able to balance it, or something.
He returned the tail, and she was half tempted to just grab it and toss it away again, wondering if he would fetch it twice. She didn't doubt it, he seemed like the sort that might do that kind of thing. Instead, she said. "Keep it, 's a souvenir." A rather crappy souvenir, considering it would rot.
Eh, she could get him a cooler souvenir later.

Hadaya smiled.
"Thank you, I will." A souvenir of her being kicked? No, certainly not. Maybe of her triumph over the jerk zebra that had kicked her. He liked that better. And he just liked that she had given it to him at all.
Sighing, he settled in comfortably, rolling onto his side and batting lazily at the tail as it sat beside him on the grass. He was close enough that his body was about the same height as the rock, but not higher than her. He heaved a lazy, content sigh.
"Thank you for bringing me to this place, and for being my friend. It's always strange, coming to a new land and then having no one to talk to or help take the pressure off... it's nice, having you as my friend."
He smiled craning his head back so he could look at her, half upside down from his weird angle. He yawned, almost willing to nap under the sun if she had no other plans of interest.

Watching him bat the tail like that made Imara rather childishly want it back, because it was no longer with her. But fortunately she could control such an urge, and instead just stretched out her paws and amde herself somehow more comfortable on the rock.
She didn't expect him to say that, and for a few moments was just quiet, because she didn't know how to reply. "You're welcome." She said, only because he had said thank you. But even Imara somehow found that cold, after all, she found herself pretty happy to have him around, too. And she was in the same metaphorical boat, new to the lands and friendless.
"I think it's nice, too." Having a friend, yes. "So... thanks. Too." Even though she felt awkward saying it, Imara was actually pretty relaxed, and settled her head on her paws.
She echoed his yawn. A nap did seem like a good idea! One should probably rest after being kicked by a zebra.
