Rin stood staring down the long winding trail of steps that faded into a deep foreboding pit of darkness. She was alone now. All was silent. She took so long drumming over her thoughts that she had arrived here long after all the others from her group had already left. Not that.. this fact got to her or anything. She started almost hesitantly on the first few steps down toward the abyss. She really wasn't certain what to expect. She still couldn't see the end from here but that didn't stop her descent. She merely walked faster and more certainly until she was marching with her head held high all the way towards the bottom.

Finally her shoe touched the bottom and she seemed temporarily confused for lack of more steps. Glancing around. She was actually surprised by how... small... the cove actually was. Small, but intricate. She wandered over to the nearest wall to gently touch the tablets that seemed to be fused into it. Recoiling in horror as sounds filled her thoughts at the gesture. Her brows furrowed with distrust as if the soft cooing sound of the one she touched had somehow personally offended her. Still, she returned her hand but this time to the next one. Distant mutterings in another language? Nope. Then the next, soft wailing? No again. There were just so ******** many of them. She had no clue how long this was going to take at this point. One by one touching each tablet that she could reach and each one always soft, distant, or flat out incoherent to her.

She was almost nearing the farthest part of the wall from the steps when suddenly she heard something from across the room, opposite the stairs from where she began. She squinted in the direction suspiciously. Almost dismissing it completely when it seemed to stop.

Hey.
Hey.
Hey!
HEY!

She nearly lept out of her skin. This time she definitely heard something. Summoning up all her courage she marched right over there absolutely fuming with indignant rage to mask her fear as she scolded, "WHAT?!"

Well, if you're going to be that way, never mind then.

She gave the offending tablet an annoyed if not thoughtful glare as she replied, trying to sound over the top calm. "I'm. Not. Being. Any. Way."
Seriously, was this REALLY who she was going to be paired with for the rest of her life? Hopefully, she reached to touch a few more tablets on her way over to him. Surely one of them was willing to make sense too right? Right? Nope. Now she was facing him. Him and the vaguely axe-shaped rune etched on his surface.

You're the one aren't you? Well? Pick me up already. I'm sick of this wall.

She sighed. ******** fantastic. Figures she gets stuck with a complete whiny b***h. Still... at least he LOOKED like he might be something interesting. Based on the rune, after all. She stepped up. Digging her fingers in along his edges and pried him off the wall with a loud stoney crackling noise. His form quickly twisted and churned in her hands until she was holding up the massive double-edged axe adorned with antler-like blade overlays.

"Ooh~" She cooed, getting a feel for his long staff-like handle. "Impressive."

Thank you. I like to think so.

"Man, you must have been impressive as a ... monster, right?" She asked while swinging him around, testing his weight and power.

Yes. Monster. I'm a jackalope.

"A... what?! You're a ******** taxidermy hoax?! You... you've got to be shitting me right?... Right?... Why aren't you answering me? A STUFFED RABBIT WITH ANTLERS GLUED ON DOESN'T COUNT!" Her outburst was met with silence. Absolute dead silence. She waited and waited but there was no way he was planning on answering to that. She could have waited for all eternity but no answer was ever going to come to that.

"Okay, fine. I'm sorry. But seriously. You have to admit..." She cracked first.

I just don't appreciate being talked to like that.

"I know I know. I get it. I'm just... I don't know what to do with that knowledge." She confessed. Frowning in annoyance at her new partner as she turned to face the steps leading back up.

Why should you do anything with it? It's not like it effects anything now. Now I'm an axe. An axe named Byr.

Ah hell, what a b***h she was being. A fact she realized with a bit of a recoil. She didn't even bother asking his name yet. At least, there it was. Not as silly as what he was at least.

"I'm Rin. I guess we're partners now eh Byr?" She remarked in effort to save face as she started back up the steps towards the exit.

I guess so.

His snappy tone was blatant but she didn't really care right now. She was too busy dragging both their asses back to the top and out of this place once she eventually reached it. All the while pondering how she ended up with the pussiest monster that ever existed as her partner.
