Why am I here...? I don't even play video games.....
Melinda shakes her head as she sets down the latest hit game "Skyrim", finding it wasn't something she be into at the moment. It was however a game that reminder her of her little brother. It was one of those game that was on his list to get one day. Pushing her blond hair from her face, she turns away from it as she stops to glance at "Assassin Creed: Revelation". It was actually a game she was planning on playing with her brother.
Picking up the game box, she flips it over to glance at the back. She been meaning to buy it, and at least give it a try. After all, she did own the other game titles in this collection.
"Hmm, it shouldn't be a problem. I'll just play on the weekends."

Ah the used game return system. Probably his favorite thing about GameStop. Pay for one, and so long as all the subsequent ones were of the same value, you had a nice variety of "free" games to play. Provided you came back within seven days. Be it to the love or hate of his local stores, Devlin was an avid abuser of this system. He at least had the class to hop around to a few different stores each time, instead of going in and out of the same one once a week. But here he was again, dropping off another game on the counter with the receipt before turning to search the used shelves for a replacement. Most he'd played already, some repeatedly, but a few games had recently gone down in price and thusly were now within his price range. He eyed a few, debating if dropping a few extra bucks would be worth it for some of them.
He took the time to wander a little, take a peek at other games far beyond his range and in different systems. Never hurt to look around. A few titles caught his eye, were investigated, before set back down and he moved on. But his wandering did bring him not far from another patron. Not that this was uncommon. Nor was the fact the patron was a blonde haired girl especially noteworthy, though his eyes did wander over to her a few times sidelong. Particularly when she picked up the new Assassin's Creed game. He'd have to wait a while for it to drop in price enough for his method to afford it, even used it was over fifty bucks. No way. But he was at least curious that this girl would pick it up.
Guess you really can't judge a book by the cover.
"It's gonna eat way more than you're weekends if ya ain't careful," came his chime in after she made her commentary. Whether she wanted his opinion or not, he saw no reason not to warn the girl about the addictive power of the game, its predecessors being any hint.

Glancing to the side, Melinda arches a brow for a moment before a small smirk forms across her lip. "Your right, like the other titles in the series, I will probably end up playing more then I should." falling quiet, she drops the game into her bag for a moment as she turns fully towards the guy. Pushing her bangs from her face, she glances around for a moment before she nods to him "I'm guessing your a avid player yourself?" turning her head back towards the rack of games, she pauses to glance at another popular series under then name of final fantasy.
Another sequel, nothing to special. Not to mention the first game was lame. The only thing she found interesting about it was the main character Lightning.
Looking back towards the male, she gives him another smile "Maybe you could help me, I've only really played the Assassin Creed titles myself. My baby brother was the big gamer. So I'm not all that sure what is a good game at the moment."

His head tilted, forehead angled faintly more towards the girl as he almost peered up at her with this perspective. One corner of his mouth arched upward, a smirk sparking. Others in the series, huh? "Ever beat 'em? Or just watch your boyfriend play?" His tone could be taken as snapping, words certainly could be considered rude. Devlin's smile didn't waver however. From where he stood, it was a reasonable thing to ask. Cute girl gamers happened pretty often, yeah, but a few he'd met were only into them due to their significant others.
There was a difference in his book.
For a variety of reasons.
One hand slipped into his pants pocket, nodding a bit as he hummed out a simple answer. "I manage to squeeze some schoolwork between save points and cutscenes." And video recording, and editing videos, bargain hunting.... School always got the short end of the stick with him. Her way of phrasing the question though was a sort of answer to his previous question. Sort of. She at least considered herself an avid player, so points gained.
He didn't follow her gaze as she looked to the shelves, but did glance down at his phone on habit. When she began to talk again though, his head barely raised to look back at her--though his blue eyes were clearly focused on her--shoulders hunched somewhat from how he'd bent slightly to grab the phone in the first place. A few dark locks fell into his face with how he stood. Again her wording struck him. Baby brother was. No longer? What, kid decide he was too old for blowing things up or trash talking over LIVE? Taking a moment to shove his phone back into his pocket and run his other hand through his hair to get the bits out of his face, Devlin leaned back to survey the shelves next to them.
"Sure," he said, elongating the word into a quasi-hiss. Fingers tapped against his thigh as he contemplated what she might find fun. "What system y'got? And what d'ya like the most about Assassin's Creed?" Start narrowing down the list at least. He shifted his gaze back to her green eyes as he waited for her to speak.

Melinda arches a brow at him over the comment about a boyfriend. She should have guess it would happen, as it wasn't uncommon from what she heard. Shaking her head, she push her blond hair frown her face once more "No boyfriend. I learn most of what I know from my brother when he use to play." with a shrug, she looks away to hide the fact of talking about her baby brother still hurt alot.
Chewing on her bottom lip for a moment, she tilts her head before reaching back into her bag to pull out the game. The box itself was green "Looks like its an X-Box 360?" she was pretty sure she had it right, as it was the only console her brother ever played on.
"And I love the storyline, as well as the battle system. Also the ability to rebuild. I mean, its not everyday you can build the city, and create your own army of assassin." she was grinning as she thought about how her brother got her hook just by the rebuilding of the city.
Lifting her hand, she holds it out to him "Where are my manners, I'm Melinda. Though, everyone calls me Mel." she couldn't help but look over his facial feature, his eyes catching her attention the most. They were very nice to look at to say the least,

A look of vague surprise--even interest--passed through his tan features. When her brother played. Baby brother or not, he wasn't hearing any further clarification that she did, in fact, have a boyfriend. This... was noteworthy. Potentially, anyways. As his eyes gave a quick flash down her figure, he caught the way she looked away. A fact that was quickly ignored, not understanding what the source could be.
He nodded a little to her assumption. Green for Xbox, bingo. Fingers still tapping a beat all his own against his leg, he shifted his weight to lean back onto the other foot as he skimmed the titles. Storyline, battle system... ability to rebuild.... There were really only so many games that would meet all three, and he wasn't entirely sure they'd be up her alley. Maybe-- huh what.
Distracted by her sudden movement towards him, Devlin glanced between her hand to her face. Holding onto her eyes for a brief moment, a brow perked before that half-smile smirk flickered back onto his lips. Lazily, he gripped her hand--lightly--and gave her a nod. "Devlin. Don't really have a nickname... 'cept Dev I guess," he added with a small frown, glancing off to the side as he briefly pondered this. Releasing her hand, he looked back quick to those green eyes.
Just as quickly, he was looking back at the shelves. "There's the Elder Scrolls series... Oblivion and Skyrim are on the 360." He lifted a hand to point in the two titles' directions. "Then there's the Dragon Age series. No real rebuilding goin' on, but the plot is <********' awesome. Never mind the character interaction is pretty epic. Same goes for Mass Effect... Though Mass Effect gives you a lot of sorta rebuilding with how s**t plays out throughout the series...." His head cocked to the side, eyes narrowing as he thought more about this. Would she even be into the scifi theme? Well. Assassin's Creed was pretty trippy and futuristic in sections....
"Any of these lookin' interestin' to ya?"

Mel kept quiet as she listen to Devlin go over the different games, the only one she didn't know was Mass Effect. With a chuckle, she shrugs before looking for the game "My brother owns most of those games, and they were given to me when he passed away last year. I think the only one he didn't own was the Mass Effect series." spotting the games sitting next to one another, she steps away to pick them up.
Looking them over, she glance back up at Devlin as she gives him a smirk "So, since you seem to know your games. Is this actually worth playing?" flipping to the back of the case, she reads over the brief information of the game.
It didn't seem to bad, and it was set in space? Not her cup of tea, but she found herself interested in the storyline and the fact she could alter everything just on her choices. Pushing her blond hair from her face, she looks back up at him.

His babbling about video games came to a halt when she dropped that bomb. Teeth clicking as he shut his mouth for a moment, his hand drifted to the back of his neck. Well. That... answered all that then. "s**t. That... really sucks." So eloquent, wasn't he? No apology for her loss came from him, though. He wasn't the one who killed her brother... whatever happened. Nothing for him to say sorry about.
He waited for her to pick up the games, debating for a moment if maybe he wouldn't pick one of them up himself this time around. Eyes scanning the trio, he glanced towards her with a bemused smirk. "I donno. Save the galaxy or doom it, become a ******** living legend or burn everything to the ground while you become top dog.... Amazing ******** cast of characters--easily the best companions in any ******** awesome graphics and music... and enough sidequests to keep you occupied for months... Never mind each game affects the next in the series, leaving hundreds of different options..."
He gave a vague shrug as if bored by the very concepts. "Yeah it's an alright series."

Mel gave him a look of 'yea, so you like the game, you could have just said that', before she laughs. Placing the first one of the series into her bag, she turns to him "Alright, guess I will give this one a try. After all, with such a wicked review, how could I not." crossing her arms under her chest for a moment, she looks down at the two games she was planning on getting. They should be enough to keep her entrained for a bit.
Green eyes glancing back up at him, she tilts her head for a moment "So Devlin, would you object to me treating you to coffee as a thanks for helping me pick out a couple new games?" and maybe getting a chance to talk, since I'm in no mood to go back to my dorm room at this point.
"Unless your not into coffee, then we can go get a soda or something." god why she she have to put it that way. At the moment, she was kind of wishing she could take back the last part she said.

Devlin gave no apologies for how much he enjoyed the sci fi series. To the girl before him, he gave a simple smile and shrug. Hey, she asked. Watching her place the first of the trio into her bag, smile growing a fraction. She wouldn't regret it. His hands raised in mock defense though, a small laugh of his own to her comment of the review. "Hey, I only tell it how it is. Badass games get badass recommendations." His lack of filter wouldn't allow for anything less.
One of his own hands moved over to a copy of Mass Effect 2, deciding all this talk of the series had him wanting to jump back into the skin of Shepard once more.
Tapping the cover against his other hand, Melinda's question had him raising a brow. She was asking him out for... coffee? His lips pursed the tiniest bit for a moment, greatly surprised at this turn of events. His eyes flickered over her form, he gave a nonchalant shrug as a casual smile settled into place. Interesting fumble of words. Sort of hard to say no to her offer now... plus hey. Free stuff. "I'm good with coffee." He tapped his fingers against his game and nodded to the counter. "Pay and head out then?" Well for her it would be to pay.
Moving back up to the counter, he handed the game over to the guy on the other side, confirming that he was indeed using his return trade for this one. "So you'll be back in... what, a week or two?" The cashier began the process of scanning, printing a new receipt, all that fun stuff.
"Give or take. See what else is down in price by then." His eyes glanced back towards the blonde girl, curious if she'd pick up what the conversation was about. Was she enough into shopping for games that she'd know this system..?

Melinda was thrilled when he said yes to her offer of coffee, but she did her best to hide it. With a nod, she follows after him and pays for her own game. Turning towards him, she arches a brow towards the cashier behind the counter then back to Dev. So this wasn't the first time he traded in games for new ones? With a small chuckle she smiles to the other cashier as he hands her her bag and receipt "Thank you."
Moving to Dev, she place her purchase game into her purse before she looks up to him "You ready? We can either walk to the coffee shop or take my car." as she spoke, she was already moving towards the front of the store as she spoke.
"Your also gonna have to tell me about the other games you like. Maybe we can swap games one day, if you have something I be willing to try." pulling the door open, she leans against it as she wait for him to join her.

The girl was bold. Folding up the bag around his new game and shoving it into one of the deeper pockets of his pants, he had to give a few extra points to her. His head bounced lightly in a small nod to her question. Only for his eyes to roll to the ceiling briefly as he considered her offer. He walked to the store that day, so there wasn't a question of him leaving a vehicle behind. But that was close quarters. No, nothing he was objecting to with this fine company, but he was experiencing a rare moment of manners.
"Let's walk. No use for you to waste the gas, I know a shortcut." He knew a few, but at least one would be suitable for her. Least in so far as he knew of her hiking abilities. As she started for the door though, let out that comment about swapping games, leaned against the door like that...
Oh she was bold, alright. His smile was amused, a smirk that lit up his eyes. "I've got a few you might like. Might be able to cover one or two between here and the coffee shop. Could take a bit longer than one cup to tell you about everything though."
What an interesting direction the day took.
