Macalania turned her back from her home and began walking. The forest she was taking care of was as healthy as it could be and now, feeling more confident and comfortable with herself, Macalania had accepted Yggdrasil's offer of traveling. She wasn't sure exactly where she was headed or how long it would take her to get there, but it didn't bother her; she simply needed time to herself away from her duties.
She traveled for three days before she was well away from Yggdrasil's borders. She took rests every few hours but when she came to this stop, she was exhausted. Sitting, she reached into the bag Yggdrasil had prepared for her and pulled out one of his berries, nibbling on it. He had picked every single berry off his tree for her and since she only needed to eat two a day to give her energy, she would have enough fruit to last her for a while. On top of that was breads, nuts, a water sack, a cloack should she go to areas where it was cold. A map that was incomplete and inks and quills. Macalania was marking the lands for Yggdrasil; mostly forests and their status - if they were healthy or if they needed assistance. She noted down herd territories as she came across them and areas that were rumored to house evil soquili.
Leaning back, Macalania looked up at the sky and squinted as the sun's light fought back against her eyes. Mid-day; much too hot to walk for now. She would rest for an hour and continue her journey. Carefully pulling the map out and unfolding it, Macalania studied it. She had marked down a few forest, some lakes and rivers, a swamp. Areas that shouldn't be traveled alone were marked with red crosses. In a note book she had sketched pictured of plant life found in each area and details about it - colour, smell, height etc'.
Macalania looked over one area marked with an X. It was a marvelous forest; she had seen it on the horizon as she passed it. She wondered what lived in their; both flora and fauna. She wondered what it was that was so dangerous inside.
An hour passed and after going over it in her mind, Macalania decided to brave the dangers of the forest marked with an X on her map. She had to see what was inside. It took her almost 3 hours to reach it. She stood for five minutes just outside, wondering if she was being crazy. Then she took the first step into the trees enveloped by cool air and the smell of damp earth and leaves. And then she began walking, occasionally taking out her notebook to sketch flowers and write other things down. This didn't seem so dangerous after all.

It had been a while since Naraku had come to these lands in search of the shards he so desired, no, craved. He had looked far and wide, collecting what shards he could from the bellies of beasts and the lips of the fair. Nothing mattered except power, power and revenge, but to establish a base for his villainous plots here, he needed allies, he needed fools...he needed incarnations. He slunk out of the cave he had made his lair from and slid from shadow to shadow, his red eyes adjusting to the light, he wasn't very fond of the daytime hours but most "decent" creatures only came out at this time, and it was imperative that he find such folk. How he looked had not been predetermined of course, no parents could manage that, but he was quite good at using his relatively normal appearance to ensnare the kind of heart and twist them into something else to be useful to him. And so he set out into the peaceful wood, where his hoofs landed, the vegetation withered and died, leaving sickly brown hoof prints in his wake.
He stopped at a small river that ran through the area and looked around suspiciously, making sure there were no others around before he dipped his head and drank deep. He raised his head suddenly at a sound, his hair whispering along the ground "Hmmm~?" He had picked this particular forest for his base almost purely because he had never seen others around...but he could have sworn he had just heard something...somewhere...
His eyes narrowed to red slits and he slipped the head of his pelt over his own, stalking forward , many had mistaken him at first for the creatures known as skin walkers, he was ok with this, they were indeed frightening blood thirsty things. But this suited him, he would find who was poking around in his wood.

Macalania reached a stream not long after entering the forest. She took a quick drink and a rest for a few moments, enjoying the feeling of the water rushing over her hooves. So far, so good. She'd not been attacked, bitten or slowly eaten to death. All in all it seemed like a nice place to visit and she believed she'd made the right decision by coming here after all. Perhaps it was just a rumor; the whole evil villians in the forest. Maybe there was a special plant in this forest that someone wanted to protect and so spread the rumor so no one would come searching for it. Then again, she could be wrong and she could be eaten today. Better get a move on.
Ahead of her, she spied a plant growing on the river's edge. She sat on the dry bank and took out her book, brushes and ink, drawing the plant, its location and conditions. She didn't stop working until she believed it was perfect. When she was done, she held the book up, compating her drawing to the real life thing. Beautiful. She was proud. Pulling out a jar from her bag, she pulled a leaf from the plant and dropped it inside, closing the lid when she was done. It lived with other leaves that were in perfect condition, the special water made from her crystals keeping them alive.
So engrossed she was in her work that Macalania didn't notice the stallion until he was in front of her. Looking up, the first thing she noticed was his pelt and her eyes went wide with surprise more than fear. So this was what a skinwalker looked like? She'd never herd of a pelt that looked like his.
'That's because he's not a skinwalker,' a voice echoed in the back of her mind.
Macalania blinked a few times, still weary. She cleared her throat and edge away from the stallion a little, pretending she was collecting items. She shook lightly and knocked over her jar, sending it rolling away. She closed her eyes and tried to regain her composure, taking deep breaths. She turned her attention back to the stallion. "Can.. Can I help you with something?" Her voice vame out a lot more pathetically than she thought it would; meek and trembling.
It seemed she'd made a bad choice after all.

His red eyes gleamed in the dark of his mask, his unusual white pupils dilating with his eagerness at the sight of a strange mare drinking at the nearby stream that forked off into the river he had been at. It was a few moments before he really got a good look at her, and his breath nearly hitched as he spied the jewels that adorned the odd plant that seemed to live upon her back. Was she a demon of some sort? No, he was certain that the demons of this land, Kalona and Walkers, did not look as she did. And more importantly...His eyes fell upon the jewels, a twinkling azure, much different from the heady pink that was the Sacred Jewel, but he had seen humans and demons alike get ahold of the jewel and have it manifest in many strange and beautiful ways.
A deadly sweet and sinister smirk lit upon his face as she noticed him coming towards her, thinking the mare very brave for standing her ground against one that seemed very obviously a demon. He stopped a good five or so feet before her, his spaded tail swishing languidly behind him, she bumbled some, and of course he noticed, he always noticed things like that. " Hello curious creature..." He murmured in a velvet voice, shaking his head, he revealed his true face from under the mask, his long black hair spilling out to the ground. " Forgive me, but I have never seen anything quiiiiite...like you." His eyes lingered on the many jewels on her. Though even with his sweet smile and tone, the flora under his hooves was starting to curl and turn a sickly brown.

Macalania flinched at his voice; despite the way it sounded, the way he looked and the way he spoke made her more afraid than when she thought he was a skin walker. She let out a silent sigh of relief as he pulled the pelt off his head. She knew that was not something skinwalkers were able to do. Still; his appearance in general, from the red eyes and the spade tail, set off alarm bells and she was beginning to panic.
And she was frantically clawing at her restraints. Using Macalania's state; her lowered guard, to try and break free. She was thrashing and screaming, but Macalania could do nothing about her without letting her guard down with the stallion in front of her. Right now, he was the direct threat.
Her eyes moved to his feet, the stench directing them there. She watched in horror as life withered in his presence. The smell made her wretch and that was all it took. The restraints were broken and she came out to play.
Eying the stallion, she smiled just as sweetly. His appearance made her believe he had power and that was something she could use. She would trade, of course. Not one to demand things without offering something in return; nothing was ever gained that way. "I would say the same for you, but I've seen many like you before. All the same, all boring." Her voice was different now; low and monotone, as if she was bored. Not a single hint of fear.

He noticed her change immediately, his eyes widening just a smidge and his nostrils flaring with interest, now this was his kind of game. She had obviously changed from the timid thing he had been eyeing just a minute ago to something far more challenging. But that was the thing, he LIKED challenges on occasion, And with a possible jewel shard in the mix he was more than willing to accommodate a stray personality or two.
" Well i must say, i'm surprised. I wasn't aware i was dealing with two mares." He purred, staying quite calm " Though most i have visited have never called me "boring" before mare, you're quite something." He sneered, his spaded tail swishing behind him. " Though, you seem like the intelligent one in this deal" He dismissed her insult as what it was, silly.
"I'm not convinced however, that i am SO boring, or that you have seen others LIKE me." He chuckled darkly, his red eyes flashing over her many azure crystals and back to her eyes " I am quite uniquely poisonous." At as to emphasize the point, he lifted a hoof, a swath of ground under his hooves quickly browning and dying before her eyes.

Macalania smirked. "Intelligent one, indeed. If I hadn't come out, the other would've cowered and fainted out of fear."
She eyed the poison at the stallions feet and shrunk back a little. Brave as she was, she was still aware of the dangers. "Yes.." she wrinkled her nose. "Do be sure to keep that away from me. As you can see.." she nodded towards the tree on her back. "It would be quite dangerous to me."
Standing from her position from the ground, she looked at the stallion carefully. He was indeed quite powerful, she could not deny that. Danger was certainly a zone she was entering. She would have to play her cards right so that both parties would be happy and could go on their way.
She caught his glance at her crystals and tilted her head. Many people looked at them, but none with such a look as he gave. Why was he so interested in them? She smiled gently. "Pretty, aren't they?"

" I gathered that" he purred, his tail swishing about behind him, he glanced once at the "tree" encrusted with jewels that sat upon her back and then moved back a little " Ah~ of course, how silly of me...I do not wish harm upon you" He tilted his neck and seemed to rummage in the fur of his pelt for a minute before fishing out a small corked container " I have here an antidote to every poison i concoct, so you are relatively safe" His eyes glittered as she spoke of the crystals on her back. " Yes" he answered smoothly " They are, I have never seen a mare like you, especially not with jewels like that. How did you become thus?" He questioned, hoping she would reveal that she had swallowed a jewel shard, a small fragment of what he had been searching for all this time. " Beautiful jewels for a beautiful mare, no doubt" He smiled like an oil slick.

Macalania eyed the antidote. It was a nice gesture but there was no guarantee he would use it on her - and no guarantee she could get it in time to stop her tree from dying. The miasma was certainly interesting. Perhaps he would let her take some in a bottle. Or maybe he would make some poisons.
Macalania smiled slightly at the compliment, not one to be flattered at the moment. Perhaps when the other, weaker one was out she might have flushed. She thought carefully for a moment about her tree. How did she become like this? She'd never really thought about it, to be honest. They had woken up like this, no memory of why or how - only going by legends.
"I honestly could not tell you. We woke up like this." She shrugged carelessly. "A legend says we're a reincarnation of some sort. Whether or not that's true is up to you."
She eyed him with a raised brow. "You certainly seem interested in them."

" I see" he pursed his lips, perhaps the jewel shard had been swallowed by the mother and born thus in the mare...he really had more questions about it but he didn't want to make her suspicious about WHY he was so very interested. He chuckled softly, he had expected this question, and replied smoothly " Ah, well if you must know, I am a collector of rare jewels, and i have never come across such as yours, especially since they happen to be a part of you somehow." He smiled, a flash of fang glinting " Living jewels, It's very fascinating."
He rustled around in his pelt and pulled out the daintiest sliver of the Sacred Jewel, rosy and glowing, and then carefully put it back, nestled somewhere in one of the many secret pockets hidden in his pelt. "Very much like those, your jewels are a different color, but have the same shine" His tail curled behind him. " But! I certainly cannot collect you." He smiled charmingly " My other hobby, you may have noticed, is making poisons." His eyes glittered " Though i have kalona blood i am not nearly as brutish, and rely more on my wits to survive." He purred " So poison is, necessary...you understand."

Macalania eyed the jewels on her tree, suddenly aware of those on her face. She supposed they were fascinating; but having grown up with them, they seemed rather boring to her. A nuisance more than anything. It was hard to slink through unnoticed when you glowed at night and had a large tree on your back visible all the time.
Poisons, hmm? That could come in handy. A collection of poisons.. How wonderful. Perhaps they could come to some sort of.. arrangement. Though Macalania couldn't remove the gems. Lord knows she had tried, painfully and to no avail. They grew like trees themselves, roots extending into her whole being and no tool was strong enough to break them.
"You can have them all if you can remove them. Though that's impossible. Believe me, I've tried and it was more painful than any poison you could make, I bet."
She eyed him curiously. "If you can think of a way you can get them, by all means I'm all up for making a deal."

His eyes narrowed to ruby slits as he toyed with the possibility that hurting her to get the jewels would not be such a TERRIBLE thing, considering his background and his use of poisons, some of them were, in fact, quite corrosive. But if she had tried to remove them forcibly with no avail, maybe he would take her word on it and try to find a way around harming her, if they grew like the tree on her back, they needed her life as nourishment, much like a plant. This would prove a problem indeed to him finding the shard that created them. " Oh? All of them?" He purred, his tail swishing eagerly behind him, as much as he wanted the shard that was likely somewhere on her body, all it would take is to find that one and those others would fall and likely leave her a normal mare, or worse for ware in some cases. " I do not think i will need all of them, but I may have the means to try to pluck a few from your lovely back." He smirked at her, his eyes glinting, his hair moving along the ground like a living thing " A deal you say?" He raised a delicate eyebrow behind his bangs " And what sort of deal do you propose, what could you desire a poison masters skills for hmmm?"
He stood, relaxed, as the poison from his hooves continued to spread to form a sickly circle of brown death in the grass " If we are to be making deals, I would like to know with whom i'm making deals with." He chuckled, a velvety sound with dangerous underlying tones " I have gone by many names, but my name is Naraku...and yours?"

Macalania watched the stallion carefully. She didn't like the way he looked at her; the way his eyes glinted with a hint of malicious intent. Perhaps this wasn't the kind of stallion she should be making deals with. He didn't seem the kind to stick to his word. She would have to play this carefully. Bringing her attention back to the stallion, she smiled mischievously and shrugged. "I have my reasons, as I'm sure you have yours in regards to my crystals. Sharing secrets complicates things."
Taking another step back as his poison continued its attack on the life around her, she raised a brow. "Is there a way to turn that off? I'm not sure if you noticed, but I'm at quite a disadvantage." She choked as the stench wafted into her nose; the smell burning and making her eyes water.
"Macalania. That's what she calls herself so I suppose that'll do."
Clearing her throat, she shifted her weight and stretched her limbs a little. "Now, about this deal. Any ideas coming to mind?" She smirked. "Surely an intelligent stallion such as yourself would have no problems thinking of a solution to our little dilemma."
