Is it safe to say that MCs will always go up on the 15th?
Or does this depend on how good/bad the items are?
Or should I just stick to RIGs..

It's a risk/reward thing.
Sealed Envelopes will go up UNTIL the MC is released, then the price will move depending on how much people like it. This isn't a guarantee but more like a rule of thumb: you can't go wrong if you sell your envelopes before the item is released, but placing your bets on the actual MC items is risky.

Well Love Charm III is a RIG .
RIGs
Officially known as CIs or Chance Items but also referred to as "rando-boxes" and "magic
boxes" they are Gaia’s random item-generating bags and boxes such as Gee Boi Turbo,
Crystal Overdrive, and Love Charm just to name a few. I like to call them magic boxes
because, as advertised, they can make you insanely rich but not by opening them.
Never open them. Never. I mean it. Statistically, (and yes I am about to get all mathy
on you, learn to deal with it) the odds of getting an item worth more than the box you
opened aren’t great. The odds of getting an item worth enough more than the boxes you
opened with shitty items in them to cover your losses are even worse. So just don’t do it.
The odds of buying a recent box for 80k and turning around and selling it in a month
or two for 120k are very good.
I've made millions and
millions of gold on these things.

I have some confusion with the sealed envelope. What makes it worth buying? Why not just wait for the MC to be released?

Usually MCs start to go down in price after they are opened on the 15th (Well, a few days after/when it's closer to the end of the month).
But sometimes one can make a profit when the sealed envelopes become letters on the 15th. Mostly because everyone buys them (The MCs inside), causing the price to go up = profit.
That's just my speculation. c;

Among the reasons I could think of:
Some purchase to collect and take pride in their complete letter collection per year. They aren't really going for the items inside. The act simply harbours a feeling of... contentment xD
Some purchase the letters if they find out the letter's price is far more cheaper than the said items coming out from it. It happens... though rarely =D
Some purchase the letter as a preventive measure to see which item contained will fare better and reduce the risk of loss. For example, the August 2k8 letter contains lusty and war of the warlords. Person A seemed undecided to either invest in lusty or w-o-t-w at that time so he/she decided to stock up on the letters first and see the outcome later. Finally, Lusty proved to become the better investment. Person A would then either open the letters and sell off the Lustys or simply sell off the letters containing the Lustys without even looking at w-o-t-w.
