Shukaku is a tanuki. Tanuki is raccoon dog in english. A raccoon dog is under the dog family.

Gaara got the vote for best improved Genin in one of those book that stat everything about the shonen jump character. And Kishimoto put him as the best Kazekage in Sunagakure. Better than his father.
And guess what, Gaara's mother name is Karura. She didn't hate him at all(that's what they said) It was stated like this...
"Did Karura really love Gaara? After the death of Yashamaru, it has remained a mystery."
Gaara's name was name after his mother. Karura and Gaara is the same in Kanji.
Okay, weird stuff
Karura(Gaara's mom) got pregnant with Temari at 17 years old and her husband(Kazekage aka Gaara's daddy) is 8 years older than her. Wow, talk about too young to have a child man, Gaara's mom is the fantastic to be able to give birth to three children.

That's genuinely helpful! I always love to read obscure statistics on characters I love.
Out of curiousity, do you know if Yashamaru was her twin, or older/little brother? It'd be helpful if there was a datebook page on him, but I have yet to see one.
All of Gaara'a family has names now except "daddy." Wonder why?

Next to none of the different kage's has names(that's been mentioned at least), except for Sarutobi and Tsunade. And I think Yashamaru and Gaara's mom, Karura, was twins, at least they look like twins confused

Yashamaru says so in the manga in japanese
and she was the elder twin. 3nodding

Doesn't it say some where that his name means something akin to "Demon who only loves himself" ? Mabey I am wrong but I was sure I heard that some where.......

Actually, I think his mother loves him a lot. She wouldn't have cursed her child and the village considering that Yashamaru loved her sister so much. She must have been very nice and kind. Well, that's my teory. I could be wrong.

Wait..I thought Kankuro was older than Temari...but at the top you said their mother had her when she was 17, so she couldn't have Kankuro any time sooner, or did she? Just a little confused. Who's older Kankuro or Temari? I know Gaara is the youngest. whee
