I already had
$5 foam wig stands (I keep my masks on them), a wig comb, and hair spray left over from my first attempt that involved taking a wig apart and trying to curl it and style it entirely from scratch and failing.
I went and picked up a
colonial or baroque wig from a costume shop and some gold spray hair color.
I pinned the wig to the foam head and began using bobby pins and the comb to hold it where I wanted as I hair sprayed it into the shape I wanted (because wigs from the bag are horribly smooshed). I had to gently wrap a side curl around my finger and hair spray it to hold form again.
Once the spray has held I removed the extra bobby pins and took the wig on the stand outside and used the gold spray on it from about 2 foot back so the base color could still be seen under the spray color and attempted to get as even a coat as possible. I let that dry and then touched up the next day just before the convention
