Pheonix awoke to the dawn, her body slightly covered in the dew drops of the morn. The female took a moment to realize who she was and where exactly she was. A time had passed since she met the kirin Ahadzen. The stallion had been plagued by a voice that Pheonix helped to quell from his mind. As long as she was around, Pheonix felt that it would not bother Ahadzen any more. So far, she had been right in that assumption.
The two had traveled since then. She remebered that they had decided to rest in this field close to the waters. A good plan at that for Pheonix was starting to become parched with a fiery thirst. The mare rose to her hooves and strode silently to the edge of the flowing rivers. She drank a hefty amount of the cool aqua glad that it was Ahadzen's idea to make camp here.
Speaking of the stallion that plagued her mind, Pheonix turned to look about for him. She wondered if the voice had been plaguing his dreams and disrupting his sleep. The mare flicked her nose as she stepped in to the waters. It felt good against her hooves and ankles. This was one of her little pleasures that she indulged in when Master wasn't around. Which it was invigorating that he wasn't. As Ahadzen promised, he was showing her how to live. And how marvelous it was. She would find a way to thank the kirin later.
Which brought her back to her original thought and task. Where was Ahadzen?

It didn't take long for Freezia to figure out that her Mistress and mate were going to be engaged for a while, so she took the opportunity to stretch her legs with a good run. She heard the sound of the water up ahead, and decided to slack her thirst. Coming out of the trees, she realized she was not going to alone at the water. She trotted up to the waters edge and said, "Good morning. Mind if I join you?" The mare, standing in the water was beautiful, and Free knew the two of them had never met before. She was always up for meeting others of her kind, but she didn't get the chance very often. Traveling with her mistress, she didn't come into contact with many of her race. She held out hope that one day, her mistress's mate would get lucky enough to bond with a male of her race, but considering his temperament, she wasn't sure she'd like any Azrein that bonded with him. She couldn't bring herself to get close to the man as it was. Chances were, if he did bond, she wouldn't want to spend time with his bonded.

He had moved off a distance from Pheonix over the last few hours in the search of the fruits he had once heard his acquaintance - well that's what he'd call her - once tell him. "Red and green with another that's orange and hard on the outside." No luck so far. Turning himself back to where he had last seen her by the waters, he made his way there, slowly and carefully to not startle her. Then he smelled it.
Taking a strong whiff of the air, his nostrils flared with a new scent. A stranger. Curiosity crept into him wondering if this would be a friend, or possibly a foe. With himself in his neutral state, Ahadzen continued his way to the flowing sound of water and watched as the stranger approached Pheonix. Who in the world was that?
Squinting his eyes, he observed her. A thick coat, maybe of fur, pale golden with a hint of gray and blue markings. What mostly caught his attention were the ears and horns. "So we are different in many ways too!" he thought. "But grreeeaaattt... I'm probably going to his to introduce myself sooner or later." he thought rolling his eyes in annoyance.
Back to the thoughts of his journey, his mind traced back to the day that he promised the azrein or bird whatever Pheonix was, that he would help show her freedom from her powerful master and learn to care for herself.

Pheonix had grown bored as she waited for her traveling companion. To ease her worries of his absence, she had starting dipping her hoof into the water as fast and as deep as possible before quickly pulling it out to watch the water droplets cascade down into the flowing river as she stood in the midst giggling all the while. It was indeed fun and strangely gripping to see the way that the waters flowed and melded back into its element. Strangely, Pheonix slightly envied the water, and how it could just ...go with the flow.
The footsteps surprised her slightly. "Ahadzen! What too-" she stopped taking in the view of the creature. As it spoke, Pheonix could faintly hear the tone of a female. It certainly did look female after a moment of study. Pheonix cleared her throat as she stepped from the waters. "Many pardons. I thought you were my traveling companion. At the request, Pheonix shook her head. "It is not my decision to make. It is Mast-" Phoenix had to stop herself from continuing. Master wasn't around. She could call the shots now. Wasn't that the whole point of Ahadzen teaching her how to live?
Her eyes gazed past the strange mare into the eyes of him. She gave a sigh of relief. Finally he was back and could help her! She gave a snort looking back toward the other feeling more reassured by Ahadzen's presence. She can handle this. "Yes, please. By all means, join us." Pheonix gave a brisk nod as she trotted out to meet Ahadzen yet still close to the female and the water. "Hello, Ahadzen. I was wondering where you have been." And indeed she had tilting her head as if expecting an immediate answer.

He nodded in approval of Phoenix catching her mistake of almost stating 'master'. "I was just searching for something I just remembered about." he replied in a kind tone, filled with content. "Though I did not seek it, it was still worth the wait." He snorted not knowing what else to say.
Once again, the kirin looked at the stranger and dipped his head in respect lapping some of the water.

She tilted her head slightly curious as to what he was looking for. "Oh? Well you should have woken me. You know I would have helped you." The mare tilted her head and gave a snort, her tail flicking behind her causing the feathers to ruffle in an angry sort of chant. Pheonix was starting to realize that she was acting like a child with this new way of...thinking and...living, but it made her feel more like herself and not just...someone's...thing.
Pheonix gave a bit of a stretch of her body making idle conversation with Ahadzen. "So how did you sleep? Did you hear the voice again? Where do you think we are going?" The last question, she kind of already had an idea, but she wanted to know what Ahadzen's true plans were: to go back to his herd or search for his aunts and mother. Pheonix would have wanted to confront the old members and put them in their place, but would that make her any better than what they tried to do with their herd? The mare gave a bit of a snort and a sigh inwardly shaking her head. There she went again...

He gave a small chuckle. "I couldn't have asked for your help because it was to be a surprise... Well that is, if I was able to find it. My sleep was quite uhh..." He wanted to think of a word rather than "okay" or "the same as always" but had a hard time with words. "It was fine." he stammered. Fine. A word that was short and got to the point.
"The voice is something that seems to just remain in my head now, like if its just an imagination." He shook his head joking, "Or I was just going crazy for half my life!"
The last question struck him. Yeeeaahhh..., Where am I going Ahadzen? He sighed taking a drink of the cool water giving a glance to both of the mares that were nearby. "Well, I was thinking about continuing our wandering until, until we meet the right azrein to "camp" with for a while." His answer didn't quite answer the question, or maybe it did, but he decided to keep it that way.

Phe tilted her head. She was confused at the word 'surprise' but she brushed it aside. She didn't want it to confuse her if there was no need for her to be confused. The mare gave a brief snort as she followed him to the waters edge, her ears perked as she listened to him still. He hesitated which made her wonder if the voice came back, but his tone was flat. It was as if he didn't know what to say.
"You shouldn't be too hard on yourself." Pheonix commented shaking her head a little. "Joke or not, it did affect you. Even the little that I saw the first day wasn't to be taken lightly. I believe maybe you have started a process of healing, but you will need to keep on edge and on guard. You may never know what will happen." She pawed at the ground a little, her cloven hooves splitting the dirt in two breaks rather than the one of a normal hoof. She stared down at the water as it rolled past them smoothly with very little noise. She began to wonder if her own life was simply an imagination.
Pheonix perked when he spoke about their heading. Which just confused her all the more. "We're looking for someone?" She tilted her head before blatantly looking over her shoulder to the strange mare then back over to Ahadzen. "Why would we be looking for someone? I admit she looks like she could be a subspecies of kirin, but I highly doubt she's who we are looking for." Pheonix blinked a few times as if trying to process the information. There was no way he would have known that she would be here. He was probably just pulling something to say out of his a**. But she'd follow him anyway. Someone had to keep Ahadzen out of trouble...

He took in her words, word by word. "Healing?" he asked. "Does that mean that I'm starting to get better?" Having no idea who this certain azrein that he was looking for even looked like or even simply his or her name, Ahadzen purposely didn't reply to the question.
Maybe later, when I have more thought into this. he thought. Will it be a friend or foe? Hopefully not my herd!

The mare gave him a look before giving a sneeze, her top feather coming down in the recoil to hit her nose like usual. Whether or not Ahadzen laughed at her behind the scenes, it was a comical sight indeed. She just ignored it half the time. "Maybe. Maybe not. I'm not sure. But you feel all right, don't you?" Pheonix widened her eyes and tilted her head a little giving him a compassionate look a little before trotting from the waters into the open field. "Well it seems as though our friend here has gone off in mind. Come. Let us find an adventure." The mare stretched her frame as she suddenly started into a trot not waiting on Ahadzen. He'd catch up. Eventually.

He shifted an unsure glance to the mysterious mare but ended up following the one he knew still visualizing the hilarious scenario Phoenix's feathers just performed. Ah, he would take his time on this walk, it would be one fill of observing, that is until he'd find Phoenix out of his sight or when she'd might urge him on.
An adventure.. the words followed him, trailing a path ahead for him. He saw an odd looking tree and felt it with his horn, eventually pawing it, but it still never gave any sign of defeat. Sighing, he lost interest in the tree and continued following the given path.

The mare kept a decent pace waiting for Ahadzen to catch up to her. She'd often stop and turn her neck to see what was holding him up. The stallion seemed preoccupied with nature more than anything else really. She turned at one point when he was at a tree to look and mull it over. Ahadzen seemed displeased with the flora and Pheonix began to wonder why he seemed perturbed by the thing. Eventually he moved on and so did the little bird that followed him.
She kept pace with him and close to his side as they roamed over the grass knolls and other terrain coming across a tree and a shrub every once in a while. At one point, Pheonix thought she found a berry bush, but was mistaken for something else entirely. She coughed and spat the bitter fruit out licking her mouth in attempt to get the taste out. No doubt Ahadzen was probably getting some comedic relief from her, but that wasn't in her mind at the moment. They were on an adventure and that meant things were happening - bad or good.
Pheonix stopped short of a dead and gnarled tree. She blinked a few times studying the decaying thing noticing the life coming from it. Bugs were busy about the tree as well as things growing out of it. The mare was confused as to how something dead could provide for something living. But the concept shouldn't be so strange to her since predators hunting for food was just about the same thing. And yet it bothered her that it was a tree. The mare finally gave up much as Ahadzen had earlier and looked toward him with a snort. "I'm getting hungry. What about you?" Her head tilted as she continued on, her nose tilted upward so she could get a better scent from the wind. "I wonder what's around to eat. Maybe clovers?" The mare turned as she giggled remembering the first time the two met - in a clover patch by Sander Lake. She was trying to take a nap and he ruined it. But Ahadzen was fun all the same and she greatly enjoyed his company.
Which was weird. She had never met anyone that she enjoyed their company immensely. Or got worried when he wasn't around. Funny. This was something she was totally at odds about. Pheonix made a mental note to ask him later after they found food.

Shocked at her reaction to the berry like-bush, he walked away from her mistake ignoring the growling of his stomach. When was the last time he's even eaten? Did the water even count as food? He thought it didn't. The thought of food was running into his mind again, just as Pheonix spoke of clovers. Mmm... the soft, crispy herbs that he had grown accustomed to feasting on during his years of wandering the Floating Isle.
With adventure lurking in any path they chose, he looked intensely at the bark of the tree. Interesting. Horrid pesky things were living from the dead. I wonder if there'll be creatures feasting on me when my time has come too. The thought gave him a quick shiver down his backbones. It was too early to think about death.
"Well, there's the bark if it'll satisfy you." Stepping towards the dead tree, he stretched his neck to get a quick grasp of the bark. Slowly munching on it, he felt like energy was running through him. Weird. "This is actually not so bad Pheonix! Come try some!" he beckoned. Looking around, he saw a dark forest up ahead and a path leading to a rocky terrain up north. "Hmm.. we should head there soon." he spoke looking at the cliffs.

It surprised Pheonix that Ahadzen ripped the bark from the decaying tree. What on earth was he thinking?! She tilted her head as he seemed to enjoy it gaining some sort of...nourishment perhaps? She gave a grunt about to decline but the whine of her stomach made her reconsider. The mare went forward just a little ripping off a small portion of the bark for herself. The reaction of the taste was at first strange, but she began to grow accustomed to it and the texture. Soon she was stripping off more of the tree gaining back her strength from the trek they had just made.
She looked over toward the stallion giving a bit of a cough as she had swallowed one too fast. The feeling was uncomfortable but disappeared. After that she started grazing the grasses close to the tree for anything that might satisfy the little pain in her stomach. Her tail flick, feathers rustling as she did so. When he suggested their next course she looked up toward the jagged cliffs with curiosity. "Is that where the voice tells you to go? Or your own mind?" Pheonix looked at him with genuine interest striding a little bit closer to get a better look at the terrain. "I wonder what's up there..." The mare murmured a little flicking her ears back then forward toward the mountains as if trying to listen.

Content that they finally had somewhat of a decent meal he smiled until the sound of Pheonix coughing alarmed Ahadzen. Turning his attention to her, he then found out that she was eating some of the grasses. A good sign of not having a stomach ache of some sort because he wouldn't have known what to do if any of the two had become sick. Maybe Pheonix knew, possibly. The question was running in his head but refused to ask to make sure.
"Believe it not, its just an instinct of mine. The cliffs do seem like a more harder journey, but we will be able to have the sunlight on our side." Looking back at the mountains, he stretched his neck to see if he was able to detect anything. "Well, it'll be a mystery for the both of us then. Who knows? There might be something that leads us to your passed up there because you were a bird before." he said reassuring, not knowing if that was the right thing to say. Inside, his body was jumping with excitement to find out what they would encounter.
