As fast as she'd bonded with Hadjoc, Mercedes was already back up and prowling Deus Ex Grounds aimlessly. Now what was she supposed to do? Clarice had explained that there would be faction distribution as well as uniforms but it seemed that all the other lambs had somehow managed to fly past her seeing as none of them were wandering like her right now.
Sighing she held on to her two bowguns and looked for the nearest break hall to look for a map or a pamphlet or a brochure. ANYTHING that would give her any hint of direction.

"You're just saying words you know. Gosh you're heavy..." she replied with a bit of venom in her voice. "I don't even know what to call these things or you for that matter."

Hadjoc.

"What's that?"

Hadjoc...

"Well that I can hear clear as day.. is that all you can enunciate?" She asked as she tapped her feet together. "...no response huh? Sheesh. I wonder if Candace has this problem with hers.."

"Trouble with my what?" Came Candace's voice from behind the new trainee, peering over her shoulder at the two weapons in her hands. Ohhhh! How neat! "Neat weapon! Have you tried desummoning it?" Why was she carrying it around so freely? Not that she couldn't but there was no need for it! Especially if they were as heavy as they looked.

Candace stepped away to look the other woman up and down, humming curiously. Where was her coat? Her scarf? Did she not have them yet? "Glad to see you got your weapon without issue, I hope." Candace's had been without incident, just Atropos being fairly melodramatic, but everyone's experiences were probably different!

Still jumpy from her bouts in the dark cove, Mercedes lurched nearly dropping Hadjoc when Candace came round the corner. "Oh.. hi Candace you caught me off guard there.." she said nervoously. Oh great now she looked like some frightened nilly. She was about ready to cover her tracks further when Candace mentioned the weapons in hand.

"De...summoning it?" Narrowing her eyes Mercedes lifted the hellish looking things and stared straight faced back at Candace. "Well it would be useful if I could do that granted I don't really know how.." she sighed.

"And I don't know how it feels about me I can't understand a word it has said up until 'Hadjoc' but that could be anything. Maybe that's what it wants me to call it or something." she rolled her eyes.

Candace chuckled apologetically and pat Mercedes' shoulder, stepping around her to stand beside her instead of behind her. "Sorry about that, I've gotten too used to this place, I think." She said with a smile. "Don't worry about being nervous. You did just have a very major life change recently. And this place is rather strange until you're used to it. I can show you around, if you like." Sometimes she wore boots that clicked but today she wanted comfort over style.

"Yeah, like how I showed you Atropos? Boots that become rings." She hummed thoughtfully and looked down at the rings in question. How did one just...well.. "Hadjoc? Neat name, I think. As for the summoning...he should know how to do it himself. A little bit of concentration on imagining what he looks like when he isn't summoned helps, I think? But only if you know what he looks like...just try asking him to unsummon himself. Atropos does it all the time without me asking. It becomes second nature after awhile." But she did find it strange that Mercedes couldn't understand her own weapon. Did it not speak English? Could she not hear it? That couldn't be it, they were bonded. Why couldn't she...

"Do you think he's messing with you, maybe?"

"That would be rather nice. I'm afraid I have no clue where my room even is. How big are they?" she asked curiously then lifted one half of Hadjoc.

"Well he, it, whatever hasn't spoken a lick of anything I can understand... I don't think we got off on the right foot," she frowned as she then lifted the other half, then immediately nodded. "Absolutely I think he is. Or at least trying to. It's like trying to house train a dog they can't tell you when they have to pee," she said with disdain. No response from Hadjoc.

"Maybe if I ask it nicely-"

she paused and smirked. "Or just this."

WHAM!!!

The next thing he knew, Hadjoc was thrown against the wall behind her. Shortly after he began to fizzle and hiss like he had before in the cove. Glancing at Candace, Mercedes held her breath and waited to see if something would happen. Eventually the hissing died down and the energy of the weapon began to shrink and climb behind her ear. It sort of stung but tickled and she had to let it happen until it formed a long purple and speckled feather tied into her hair by a dirty cloth.

"Oh god I can't see it what did it do?" she asked with a wince.

"Well, as a trainee our rooms are about the size of an average college dorm. But as you raise up in rank they get bigger. Like, Julie has a private kitchen and a private bathroom. From the sounds of it Clarice has a private bathroom, too. And the leaders get suites..or so I hear. I think it's entirely dependent on your rank with a dash of who you are and who you know." Candace shrugged, about to suggest they go find Mercedes' room until she came up with a brilliant way to uh...force Hadjoc to shift into his unsummoned form.

She...she just...threw him against a wall! Candace burst into immediate laughter, her hands against her stomach as she doubled over a bit. She'd never seen anyone do that before! If you ever do that to me I will kill you slowly. Atropos hissed, but Candace just kept laughing. Oh god! That was priceless! She couldn't wait to tell someone what she just saw! ********, this was a good group.

"Y-you threw him! Haha!" Candace sighed, still chuckling as she tried to calm down enough to look for something new on the girl. Anything different? Anything? Anything at a--oh! "Pffftahaha..he's right here." She reached out to brush a finger along the feather hanging in Mercedes' hair. "That was amazing. Just...try not to make a habit of throwing him." Candace snorted with laughter again, sighing and shaking her head. "Let's go find your room. If you have any questions along the way I'll do my best to answer, okay?"

"Jesus thank God.." Mercedes sighed in frustration now reaching back to touch the feather for herself. "I guess that explains the cawing."

Shaking it off the trainee seemed confident now that she'd shown her weapon a bit of dominance. She wouldn't abuse that power but it felt great. Maybe he'd start talking to her in normal speak.

"Yes please let's get to that.." she groaned. "I think I left two dents back there.." she said, unwilling to look back and check. The halls felt like being back at the firm again except minus the giant tv screens and obnoxiously mod light fixtures with giant bold, detail-less patterns on the walls. Yea.. it was just like that with all the piercing white walls. Fortunately Mercedes could handle this, though the urge to get some paints out would be tough to beat.

"So can we uhm... decorate or paint any in our rooms? I only ask because... if there's a really ugly poop color staining my walls I might just have to take Hadjoc thingies for another go.." she sighed. Only a couple paces separated them from the 140's hall.

Cawing? Weird. He must have once been some kind of bird creature before being converted to a weapon.

Candace glanced back at the wall as Mercedes commented on leaving dents in it, and sure enough there were indeed two large dents in the wall where her weapon had slammed into it. Candace couldn't help but laugh again, sniggering and putting a hand over her mouth. Oh man. She couldn't wait to tell everyone what she just saw happen to a weapon. But that could come after she had made sure Mercedes was comfortably settled into her new home, a luxury that Candace and the other trainees that had been awakened alongside her had not been given. Even Candace had only truly begun to settle down and feel like she was home recently. There were certain factors that helped with that. "Don't worry about it. We're still rebuilding and cleaning up from an attack recently so everyone will probably just assume that's where those came from." She shrugged. It was true! No one had to know...until Candace laughed about it later.

At Mercedes' question Candace sighed. "If you want, but as trainees our options are painfully limited. We get paid about four-hundred-fifty a month, and we don't get many chances to get off the island and get anything to decorate. Don't worry, as far as I've seen empty rooms have been kept clean. Most rooms on this floor are really plain, it's not expected that we spend a whole lot of time in our rooms when we should be training to become full-fledged hunters, you know? I've seen the rooms upstairs though..one of them, anyway. When you're promoted you get more to play with, evidently." Candace looked over each room number as they walked. "Did anyone tell you which one is yours? Mine was easy to remember, it was my number during the trial. Heh."

"An... attack?" Mercedes asked questionably. "You mean we have to defend this place too? I thought it was all..."

Tsol si uoy, ees?

"Shut up feather brain," Chenoweth replied saucily to her hair accessory yet her eyes lit up at the mention of payment. She didn't know it was a paid job, just that it was something she wanted to do after her own brush with the darkness. "Well if its not very often that we get to leave then four hundred a month is going to add up really fast," she chimed happily. Eh, looking at that glass half full.

Shaking her head in dismay, Mercedes slowed her pace as she started to pass the numbered rooms. "One forty one... one forty two... hey!" as they drew near room 143 the brunette pointed to a sheet of paper taped next to the door with a key (or key card ******** your details, Deus!) danging next to it. One could assume with such a... "professional" place it was safe to hang such things. Not to mention there were probably others who had yet to check in as well.

"Mercedes Chenoweth. Well what do you know?" she turned back to smile at Candace and took the key to the lock. The door opened to reveal a small suitcase of clothes and a large gym bag with more impractical treasures from home. Draped neatly over the side of the basic white-sheeted bed was a medium-short coat of pure white and gold wispy embellishments. Tied around the bedpost was a scarf that was nearly the deep purple color of Hadjoc. "This must be my uniform huh?"

"Not usually. You saw the glowing runes above all the buildings, right? Think of them as uh...a force field. A shield. Usually nothing is able to get in here.." Nothing made of FEAR, anyway. Those creatures had not been made of FEAR. Candace laughed at the clear comment to Mercedes' weapon, grinning and patting her back. "You get used to that. No one will look at you..too oddly for speaking to yourself? But most of us around here start to try keeping conversation with our weapons in our head. Is he any clearer to understand yet?" Had throwing him made it worse? Candace was so curious what her weapon sounded like, but not enough to risk anything.

At Mercedes' very reasonable logic Candace's face seemed to light up with joy. She couldn't wait to see what division this girl was in. "Exactly! Last Christmas they let us go state-side to get gifts. I had three thousand dollars I'd accumulated since May." Whoa, wait. May? Seriously? It'd..it'd been almost a year since she'd been awakened to this life? Holy s**t! Candace smiled, seeming to get lost in her own thoughts while Mercedes walked down the hall. Eh? Hey? Oh! Right! They were looking for Mercedes' room! Right!

Candace looked around the room as they walked in, mostly just at how much Mercedes had brought. She grinned. "Haha, you packed everything of yours, too? Hmm...what--oh! This must be your c--yeah! Oooh I love your scarf!" She sometimes wished there was a way to change scarf colors but black wasn't a terrible color, she supposed. She just wished she could have purple like Mercedes here.

..Wait...

"Holy s**t! YES!" She gasped and picked up the coat to get a better look at the mist emblem on the back. Yes! Yesyesyes! "You're Mist! Oh man this is so great!" Candace held the coat out for Mercedes, practically vibrating with excitement. Putitonputitonputitonputiton!

Mercedes sighed in relief at the idea of being protected by the runes. She'd noticed them on Hadjoc but hadn't been around the island yet in full clarity. To her the idea of runes could mean something totally neutral.

"I'm a mist?" she asked excitedly then looked to the pattern of her coat as well as Candace's as if it were too good to be true... but it was! "Awesome!" Miss Chenoweth carefully took the short coat and wrapped it over her shoulders and stuffed each arm in. "Well look at that," she turned to look around for a mirror in the room but none to be found. THAT had to be /fixed/.

"Oh come on they couldn't afford to at least give me a mirror?" she grumbled.

Oh, yes. To see Mercedes excited to be in Mist made Candace very happy. Yes, everyone should be excited. Their division was the best division. She watched as the other woman put the coat on and tried to check herself out, grinning with pride at seeing a new Mist in their ranks. Aria would be happy, right? Most Mists! This was great!

Of course there was the problem of Mercedes' room not having a mirror. She frowned, looking all around for anything more reflective than a window. "It's not that they can't afford it. Truth be told, they keep the trainee rooms pretty bare." Candace didn't bother to explain why. "Ummm...I could show you to the bathrooms. There're showers and mirrors and stuff there. I have a mirror, too."
