The sun was just about high in the sky. Denali had once again, snuck away from her mother in attempts to find something fun to do. She wasn’t going to hang out with her siblings (all of them); she felt as if she was much better than that. Denali had the attitude of her mother’s, stuck up and as if she was better than everyone else.

Unfortunately for her, that meant fewer friends for her. Well, what she would consider as a friend that was. Playthings would be a good word for it.

Bright purple eyes scanned the area. It was quiet for being near noon. She could see the grazing herds of the pride munching happily away on the grass, as well as a few older lions lounging in the sun. She knew there were some younger cubs that were born a little bit ago around somewhere. If she wouldn’t be around those her own age, then she’d find someone smaller to ‘play’ and ‘torment’.

It was possible she was making a big mistake as she scrambled up onto a rock and made herself just so visible. Tala was completely unsuspecting of any sort of older cub in search of someone like her, and was mostly just interested in getting up a little higher to see just a few inches better. Sadly, her rock wasn't exactly very high, either, and it didn't even seem to change much of what she saw!

The red cub frowned, sitting down on top of the rock with a sigh. She'd climb a tree, but was a little young for that, and besides. Her mom or dad might get mad at her! It's dangerous! What if you fall? she just could imagine either of them saying that. So much like them. Didn't they know Tala had it all under control?

If it were a cub of more natural color, Denali was sure should would have missed it as it rose over the rock. However, seeing as the female was of a deep shade of red, she stuck out like a sore thumb. Excellent! Hopefully this little cub was a typical gullible creature, just like she once (and likely still was) had been. The older lioness watched as the cub sat down, smirking.

She began to walk over there, a feign smile on her maw. “What are you doing out here alone?” Denali purred, acting friendly towards the other. “My mother /never/ let me go out on my own your age! You’re so lucky.” It was a lie. Denali would sneak away any chance she got. Tala didn’t need to know this though.

An ear swiveled around at the sound of a voice, and soon enough Tala turned to see the older lion. She frowned slightly and tilted her head, not quite sure what to make of this new encounter just yet. But then again, this other cub had only said a few words to her! "I'm trying to get a better look!" She explained, initially worried this dark female might try to get her in trouble somehow. Was she doing something wrong?

Tala relaxed, though, as she spoke again. "Oh! Um... Well, my dad isn't too far." She admitted, as if that would make her less cool somehow. Tala did want to be cool. Usually she was allowed to wander a bit, being a curious cub, just so long as she stayed withing earshot of her parents, or other adults. Or even Tezcacoatl, because apparently having a poisonous reptilian friend was useful, or something.

"But I bet now you can do all kinds of things!"

Ah, an adult was nearby? That was lame! She would just have to convince the other that it was okay to wander a little further away from the parents. “Aww, well, you know, I’ve heard some stories about forest over there,” she took her paw and pointed away from pride rock, to a cluster of trees. It wasn’t a forest; just a few huddled up trees. But Denali was sure the younger cub wouldn’t know the difference. While she didn’t know exactly what was over there, she just needed to come up with something in case the young lioness decided to take her up on the offer of going.

“We should go check it out, see if they are true?” What kind of stories could she have heard? Perhaps that they were haunted! That the ghost of fallen warriors lived there? If they happened to get in trouble, it would be lessen a blow, because who could resist the cute cub face of Tala there!

“What’s your name kid?”

Tala was a smart cub, and she would probably one day be a smart lioness. Sadly, even smart cubs weren't usually that smart. "A forest?" She glanced in the direction the other cub pointed at, and marveled at how she had never realized that there was a forest, not so far away! "What kind of forest?" She asked, sliding down the rock and walking towards the older cub.

"We should!" She said, then hesitated, and glanced in the direction of wherever it was her dad was resting. "But... will we get in trouble?" She tilted her head, not quite wanting to get in trouble. Yet, in some ways, she did.

"My name is Tala! What's your name?"
