Rapunzel over there was looking SEVERELY hungry. Well, as hungry as a fish could look. Maybe she wasn't hungry at all, and Connor just wanted an excuse to go down to the pet store and make faces at all of the fish tanks they had.
... Yeah it was probably that.
Still, it was a nice day, and he felt the need to socialize. Well, he always felt the need to socialize, but nevermind that. Taking out his phone, he decided to phone Hayden.
"Haydennnnn," he whined into the phone, "Come take me to the fish store." At the moment, he was upside down on his couch; it just seemed like a fun way to sit. Really. That was his only reason.

Her lips contorted into a frown as she twisted her neck to the right. The pale glow of the television lit up the dark room, Hayden’s bedroom. The young woman sighed, one arm groping around her bed until she found the remote control and hastily switched the channel. She scowled when she found herself watching a foreign drama and clicked the button again, and again. Soon enough she found herself channel surfing before she grumbled and shut off the TV with a huff. Nothing interesting was on. Hayden was ready to succumb to her boredom and lay on her bed, doing nothing when the familiar ring of her cellphone went on.
Immediately, her face lit up. Someone was calling! Maybe it would be something interesting, anything to keep her preoccupied. To her delight, When she checked the caller ID it was her good pal Connor! Smiling, Hayden pressed the phone to her ear. She didn’t even have time to squeeze in a greeting before he began whining. She laughed. Hayden slid off her bed, the mattress creaking as she talked. She hopped down the stairs and slipped on a pair of sneakers. “Yeah, I’ll be there. Do you want me to come to your house or meet you at the store?”

Connor was currently rolling on his couch, continuing to whine into the phone as Hayden cheerfully asked him where to meet. "My apartment," he reminded her, "Not all of us get nice houses."
Well, Hayden's house was far from nice, but that was beyond the point.
Even as he heard her scuttling around the house, he continued to speak into the phone, saying, "My fishes are dying Hayden. DYING." He emphasized the last word dramatically to be funny, but anyone that knew him well enough knew that there was an undertone of seriousness. His fish all got proper funerals when they died.
His fish were srs bsns.
A loud thump could be heard over the phone as he slumped onto the ground from his couch. He had officially been so lazy he'd fallen to the ground. At least he was already prepared to go. His converse were tied tightly and his board shorts were as teenager-tastic as ever.

She rolled her eyes at his response. “May I remind you,” Hayden began as she hopped down the front steps of her house, “I’m still living with my parents? Cheaper and all that jazz.” While he couldn’t have seen it, she raised her free arm and began a brief jazz hand motion. Her mouth stretched into an amused smirk at Connor’s exaggeration. “Well, I never really expected your fish to live for very long,” she admitted teasingly, though it wouldn’t have been surprising if she had been genuinely serious. Hayden failed to comprehend while her friend adored his pet fishes so much. Pets were fun to have around, sure, but when she had her own pet fish as a child she didn’t so much bat an eyelash when she found the poor thing belly-up in its bowl.
Or maybe she was just heartless like that.
Hayden blinked as she heard a thump over the phone. “Connor? Are you okay?” Her pace quickened, the rubber soles of her sneakers pounding against the paved sidewalk. It didn’t sound serious, but she figured the quicker she arrived, the better. Within minutes, the college student found herself knocking the door to Connor’s apartment. “Connor? It’s me, Hayden!”

Though he began the endeavor in a slouch, as soon as he heard Hayden at the door, he was up like lightning. It hadn't been serious at all, and Hayden was worrying herself over nothing really. Seriously. It was Connor.
He grabbed his things, opened the door, shut it and locked it in one swift movement. Once that quick action was over, he threw his arms over his companion in a hug. "EYYY!" he called out in greeting. Gosh her hair smelled nice today. Like the ocean.
Not even wasting a second, he stepped away and said, "Okay gotta go, FISH IN NEED HAYDEN." Clearly his priorities needed to be straightened out.

It was Connor, but maybe one day he would hurt himself due to his stupidity. It was a perfectly logical concern for Hayden to have. As soon as the door swung open, Hayden smiled broadly. She laughed as she found herself quickly brought inside and then just as fast brought into a hug. The woman laughed even louder as she wrapped her arms around him. “Hey!” She paused, her smile stretching even wider. “Are you sniffing my hair?” Well, it wasn’t the first time he had done such a thing.
She rolled her eyes, her hands propped on her hips. “Very well, then.” Hayden failed to wipe the grin off her face as she gestured with one arm to leave first. “Lead the way, Connor.”

"Yes I was sniffing your hair," he mocked, "s**t smelled good, so I SNIFFED IT." He gave her a pose that was something akin to "come at me bro~" but then he remembered the fish. POOR RAPUNZEL WAS STARVING.
He started walking towards the pet store, which was, in all seriousness, only a few blocks away. He just didn't want to go by himself, and he definitely didn't want to be bothered to go for no reason. Good thing old pal Hayden was here!
Now that he was a few paces down the street, he casually asked, "So what's Hayden Lynch's daring plan for Valentines?" It wasn't exactly like Hayden was prude. Surely she had something planned for the biggest make out holiday on the planet.

Hayden burst into giggles. God, this boy was absolutely hilarious sometimes—or was it all the time? She gave him a broad smile as she playfully imitated his pose. “Was that supposed to be some internet joke?” Perhaps it was just her, but sometimes Connor acted like he was ADD, ‘highly distracted’ is what her mother would have kindly put it as. She had expected the trip to the pet store to be about a ten minute walk or such, but Hayden never imagined it was only a few blocks away from his home. As she spotted the sign a few streets down, she placed both hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow at her friend. Really?
She shook her head. “Daring, you say?” Hayden laughed, one hand stroking her chin. “I signed up for this blind date thing—I’m sure that’ll be a real riot. If I don’t get some sort of fling out of that I’ll probably just go out to the clubs like usual.” Her smile turned sly and teasing as she gave him a glance. “Unless you’d like to spend the night with me. I bet you want to. I sure wouldn’t mind it, either.”

Connor grabbed Hayden's hand and started swinging it lightly as they walked down the street. It was no secret that they occasionally pushed ... well shoved the borders of friendship. Holding hands just felt nice, so he did it. There was no real concern for romantic relationship here.
"Oh I always wanna spend the night with you Hayden," he said playfully, as they rounded the corner to the store. He politely held the door open for her, and said, "But I regrettably have things to do." Apparently the negaverse was gathering at some rave ... and he was inclined to join. It was better than anything he had to do, so why not.
As he walked in after her, he waved at the lady behind the counter and said "Hi Lucy! Jim off today?" The lady smiled and nodded in response. Clearly he visited this place far too often.

There were no qualms from Hayden when he grabbed her hand. She only glanced at Connor before she smiled placidly, happily swinging her arm back and forth with him. Hayden squeezed his hand, more than glad for the touch. It was reassuring to know there was a friend she could be intimate with when she needed it. Most of her acquaintances were firmly against the “friends with benefits” concepts, but she failed to see the problem. Her relationship with Connor was functioning just fine, after all.
She grinned. “So why don’t you?” Hayden asked, nodding her head gratefully as she walked past the door and still grasping his hand. She clicked her tongue. “Tsk, tsk, Connor. That’s why you just ditch those things! It’s so simple.” It also came with repercussions that ranged from mild to dangerous, but who cared about that?
Hayden looked at the employee and then Connor. “You know their names?” she whispered before sighing and leaning her head against his shoulder, but she was still clearly amused. “Nevermind. We’re getting fish food, right?”

"It's a bit more ... complicated that than Hayd," he said, his feet already taking him to the fish supply aisle. As much as he wanted to head to the back of the store where they kept the fish tanks, he knew he had a job to do. "It's ... I just can't miss it," he said anxiously, putting the subject down as he searched the aisle.
As he rounded the corner, he went to the spot where his regular fish food was normally located. Except today, it wasn't located there.
"What the hell..." he said, rechecking the aisle. No, this was definitely the fish aisle. So ... where was his damn fish food?!

“It’s only complicated because you make it so,” she insisted, but in the back of her mind she vaguely recalled her mandatory night duties. Hayden puffed out her cheeks at the thought. She wanted so badly to wriggle her way out of her responsibilities, but she imagined a myriad of unpleasant punishments for it. “Fine,” she consented with a huff. “You better make it up to me somehow though.” She grinned, poking him in the chest with a finger.
“What is it?” She didn’t know what exactly was wrong, but it seemed amusing enough. Hayden perused through the items and made a guess, “Can’t find your fish food?”

Connor didn't even hear Hayden. The poke on his chest was like a puff of air on his chest. Right now he couldn't possibly focus on Hayden, because he was too busy dying inside.
Letting go of Hayden's hand, Connor walked over (ran over) to the counter and slammed his hands on the smooth surface rather dramatically. His dramatic gestures could easily gesture Romeo and Juliet's rash actions. Easily.
"WHERE," he began, then took a moment to both catch his breath and calm himself, "Where is the Kent Marine brand fish food?!" His tone was flat but clearly alarmed.
Lucy gave him a look that was both sympathetic and a bit weirded out. "It went out of stock- it wasn't selling well here."
"It was the best goddamn kind!" he retorted.
"Yeah, and it was too expensive- people 'round here want the cheap stuff."
Connor gave Lucy a dark look and then started storming back to the fish aisle to get whatever second hand crap they had. He would definitely be going to a different fish store until they brought it back. For now his fish would have to make do, but it didn't make him any happier.

“Connor?” Connor didn’t react to her. Connor wasn’t listening. Connor was, apparently, paying attention to something else. Hayden huffed and huffed even more so when her friend let go of her hand. Looking quite miffed, she placed both hands on her hips and momentarily watched the lad walk up to the counter and engage in conversation with the employee. She averted her eyes, attempting to avoid eavesdropping—it wasn’t that important anyways! Hmph!—but alas, she still caught snippets. The realization that Connor paid so much care to his pet fish made her giggle, her anger melting away.
“Awww. Connor, why so mad?” Hayden cooed, latching onto one of his arms. “You can always find another store that sells it, or something. Don’t be so grumpy.” Giggling, she reached up to poke his cheek before tilting her head to peck him on that same spot. “Your fish can make do for a little bit, can’t they?”

Connor sighed as Hayden reasoned with him and pecked him on the cheek. She always knew just what to say- it wasn't fair! He wanted to be a grumpy angry adult and she never let him.
"Yeah, I know I know," he muttered, taking the bag of crappy fish food from the counter and giving Lucy another glare. Lucy just shrugged it off. She'd dealt with Connor a million times before- this temper tantrum was nothing new.
He hefted the bag up with one arm and took Hayden's hand by the arm that she was latching onto. "C'mon, I'm sure we can find ... better things to do," he said, with an almost predatory smile on his face.
Also, by better things he totally means playing Dota 2 all night. 8|
