Upon asking Silence for his help on finding out more about Kikechum's Special Thing, Enekpe quickly discovered that libraries were really boring, especially when you couldn't actually read. It was all just a bunch of funny-smelling paper with mysterious things scratched on it, and there was a lot of it. She'd tried really hard to pay attention, she had, but there was only so much the host could do, and she'd soon reached the limits of her ability to watch someone else look for something.

She was also quick to discover, though, that libraries were very big places, and very easy for a little pooka to get lost in. No sooner had she wondered off than she'd lost her way! Kikechum was no help whatsoever, unfortunately, as she was barely more familiar with libraries of any sort than her host. She sincerely doubted she'd spent much, if any, time in them in her previous life.

En currently stood between two bookshelves that seemed impossibly high and long, and looked just like all the others. How did anyone not get lost in here?

No, now that he'd had a boost in the height department, Lament could actually go look for his own transcribing material without having to bother anyone else.

Which was amazing. Very, very amazing, to someone who had been a few feet shorter a mere week ago.

He walked by from the opposite side of the long bookshelves, first without stopping, but it wasn't long before he backtracked, certain he'd seen something that didn't quite belong there.

Turned out that he was right. And that he knew that someone !

"En ?" Blink. "En ! En, over here !" What was she doing here ? Even he got lost in here sometimes, still !

Enekpe was so glad that someone had come to save her - because surely that was what they had come to do! - that she didn't look at first to see who exactly it was. She just scrambled towards the sandled feet with a happy cry and all but crashed into them. "You found me, you found me!"

But who was this, anyway? The pooka looked up, stared for a long moment, tilted her head to the side, and finally squinted hard and sniff-sniff-sniffed at him. He looked kind of like one of her friends, and smelled kind of like one of her friends, but he was big?

She was clearly having a very difficult time with this as she continued to peer up at him, trying to puzzle all this out.

Oh.

Wait.

Of course.

"En, it's me." He couched down to scoop her up, now that she'd made her way to him. "Kios ! Remember ?"

Well. She'd remember a much shorter version, perhaps. Really, was there no non-awkward way to breach the subjects ? Mortals weren't quite used to people growing and changing in the blink of an eye.

"But you're big!" she pointed out, although she wasn't really doubtful - he did sort of look like Kios, and he smelled like Kios, and he knew her, but...but he was big! "How'd you get so big?"

Even as she baffled at this development, she snuggled close. Hey, if he was gonna pick her up, she was gonna get everything she could out of it!

He started scritching the back on one of the pooka's ears while heading back toward less confusing grounds for her. The young god was careful not to rub ashes all over her - through it probably wouldn't show much if he inadvertently did. Enkepe's coloring came at adventage here ! ...Through, if she did groom herself like a cat, then ashes probably wouldn't taste very good. "It's a god thing. We change very quickly and sometimes very drastically."

As she would, one day. Except it wouldn't be Enkepe anymore - it would be Kikechum, wouldn't it ? His smile faltered a bit at the thought, but he shook the realization off. There was no use mourning before the right time. En was still here, after all.

He'd do what he needed to do when it was time for it. Not a moment before.

"Nope," she answered. Enekpe had yet to encounter someone she'd known as a host who'd turn into a god, or until now, a god who'd grown. "It's kind of weird. But at least you can reach stuff now?"

That gave her an idea. "Maybe you can help me, too! Endi's helping me look for stuff in here, but there's a looot of books."

He remembered the issue of his own size when they first met, and how he ended up tumbling his way down a tree. "A great boon, certainly." He let out a small, subdued chuckle. As if being taller had been the only important thing about this whole mess !

Help ? Oh, had En been looking for something ? That'd explain why she'd come here for ! "What are you looking for ?"

En tipped her head, now puzzled by a word instead. "What's a boon?"

"Well, k**e lost this special drum...thing." The goddess reminded her of the proper word, and she clarified, "Tympanum! And we want to find it, but we don't know where it is, and Endi thought there might be something about it somewhere?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Oh, En. Right. "An... advantage." He nodded. "Something beneficial."

Right. Her owner probably hadn't taught her the more complicated words of the english language. He'd forgotten about that, for a moment - that Enkepe had once been an housepet. It was... kind of hard for him to see anything that could talk as a pet, and not a person in their own right.

"A drum ?" Something old, then, if it belonged to the goddess before she'd been a gem. "And she can't remember ?" Not that he could say anything there. He didn't even have anything to remember. "Hmmm. Maybe there's something in a book somewhere in here ? This is the library of the gods, after all. Surely someone's written about it."

But where to start ? Uhhh....

The pooka nodded, adding this to her mental catalogue of new words, like 'sentient' and 'procreation.'

"Yeah, that's what we thought! Maybe there's a book about her somewhere, and it would say something about her stuff? Endi's looking, um..." En looked around, trying and failing to determine what direction she'd come from, "Somewhere."

"Then we look somewhere else, and maybe in between the three of us, we'll find what she's looking for. How has she been, by the way ?" He didn't want to forget the goddess completely. She was present, and probably watching... listening.... But it was so hard for him to remember that Kikechum was here, too.

He'd never lived that whole host business, after all. Maybe that was why he had such an hard time remembering her presence ?

"I'm not very good at looking," Enekpe finally admitted when Kios mentioned they should be able to find something between the three of them, "I can't read." She was also tiny and had hooves, not hands, so she was, essentially, useless for library-searching.

It didn't especially bother her, she just hoped her friends didn't mind. "Oh, she's fine. She's just been dreaming about stuff, like that drum."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."That's okay. I know how the sections are made up, for the most part." He'd helped Silence and the others put everything back into some resemblance of order, after all. And wrote, wrote, wrote, until his hand cramped at time.

It was odd to think many of those who would come here for research would end up reading his handwriting. Odd and, well, flattering.

"Dreams to recall memories of the past, uh..." He mused out loud, walking through the large alleyways of bookcases like if he had done so all his life, as he was looking for one section in particular. Really, this whole host and gem situation was facinating], and the only thing that kept Lament's curiosity tightly leashed was that the pooka probably wouldn't be able to answer most of them.

Had he been younger, he probably would have assaulted the poor dear with questions anyway.

"Don't you ever get lost in here? It's so big!" Seriously, if someone hadn't found her, she was pretty sure she'd have been in here past dinnertime at least...although she probably would have started yelling long before then.

"It's kinda weird," Enekpe confided in her friend, "'Cause they're not my dreams, and I know it, but I'm still dreaming them. And they don't make any sense, either. Not to me."
