The ANBU are the best of a village's shinobi and work directly under the Kazrkage and their leader. To join the ANBU is to devote one's self to both of these people. Few are accepted and even fewer are given the opportunity to be tested.

As the sun began to set over the village, a single figure could be seen making his way towards the ANBU Black Ops Secret Sparring Field. The man seemed to have been in his early twenties and from the look of it, a very strong and powerful guy. "So this is where I will be tested?" the man asked himself as he looked around the area, "Hmm. Very open space, no places to hide or cover, little to no plant life and there is a small pond in the far right side. The field set up is favorable to those who know it well, but to those who are unfamiliar and less experienced to it, it could be dangerous." the man said as he completely analyzed the area bit by bit while also thinking up a great deal of offensive and defensive maneuvers. "If I play my cards right, I can make this field work to my advantage. Even the most experienced shinobi can fall. This will be the ultimate test of my skills as an shinobi" the man said as he then waited for his opponent to show up.

Mako observed the newest person to be tested. Soichi Uchiha....one of the more skilled members of the Uchiha name.
"So Soichi, what has made you decide to join the ANBU?"

As the man spoke to him, Soichi carefully analyzed him, "Hmmm, he seems to have great power and skills, far beyond most of the other ANBU here. It also seems that he is around my age, maybe a little older If I would have to guess, he must be an high ranking member, if not, the leader. And if what I have read was correct, then this man is..." Soichi thought as the man had finished speaking, "Mako Dorokami, I presume." Soichi spoke aloud, "There are many things I could say that made me want to join the ANBU, but I'm sure you've heard it all before, so I will just say this..." Soichi said as his eyes were focused right on Mako's, "I wish to protect that which is precious to me, my village and my comrades" Soichi said with a determined look in his eye.

"You are correct. I see you are at least able to gather and recall information. That will help you in the ANBU...." Mako replied with a smile.
His face suddenly became serious and he gave a slight stare of death into Soichi's eyes.
"There is one thing that you must come to terms with. We NEVER fail a mission and we NEVER allow the enemy to gain anything. Each of us are branded with a seal that will automatically release and kill us if you try help the enemy in anyway."
Mako then pulled out a scroll and pulled a small brush out of the end of it. He proceeded to draw a picture angling it so Soichi could not see it.
"Ninpou: Choujuu Giga."
A replica of Soichi then appeared in black and white art form.
"You worst enemy will be yourself. If you can pass and defeat yourself now, you will have been accepted to the ANBU. I will tell you up front that this is a fight to the death for either side. I'll also tell you that this has all of you basic attributes, so it will not be that simple."

As Mako explained to him the rules of the ANBU, Soichi began thinking about his own twisted past and grinned, "I never fail, my mission reports should tell you that." Soichi said as he then watched, as Mako created a replica of him, "So in order to be admitted all I have to do is defeat myself? Heh, this is going to be fun." Soichi said as he prepared himself, "Lets see, I know my weakness better than anyone, so this could be a difficult fight for the both of us." Soichi thought as he then shouted out, "You may make the first move" towards his replica, "Please do and make this enjoyable." Soichi then withdrew a kunai and awaited his replicas first move.

The replica also pulled out a kuni and the let a smile slip its face. Then it spun the kuni on his finger while quickly grabing another and throwing it at Soichi.
"Oh and by the way you will have to defeat this enemy without your Sharingan Mr. Uchiha."

As the replica threw the kunai at him, Soichi deflected it away from him by using the kunai in his hand. He then ran forwards as he heard Mako's words, "I do not need my sharingan" soichi replied as he was now only a few feet away from his replica. He then stopped suddenly and threw down a smoke bomb. As the smoke bomb completely engulfed the two of them, Soichi remained absolutely still as he was now in the second phase of his plan, "Now it all depends on what your next move is." Soichi thought as he took out a wire string and tied it around the kunai in his hand.

"He really shouldn't have done that," Mako thought to himself.
He began drawing again and this time he drew a wolf.
"Ninpou: Choujuu Giga," Mako stated quietly.
Mako knew that Soichi could easily beat a replica that was at best a C-Rank opponent, but that wasn't the test. The Sand needs people who will be able to adapt to a continuously changing situation and thats what Mako was planning on experimemnting with.
The wolf charged into the smoke from behind Soichi and at the same time the replica threw its second kunai and began making hand seals.

Soichi could hear as the wolf made it's way towards him from behind, while still managing to see his replica throw the other kunai, "He's underestimating my abilities" Soichi thought as he quickly took out a second kunai and threw it at the wolf, making it erupt into ink, while throwing the first one with the wire right at his replica, "Now it's my turn" Soichi said as he used the wire on his kunai to maneuver it, so that instead of hitting his replica, it stabbed the ground right in front of him, "Katon Goukakyuu no Jutsu (Fire Release: Powerful Fireball Technique)" Soichi said as he placed the wire in his mouth and then exhaled a powerful fireball the traveled along the the wire and went straight into the ground in front of his replica, causing a massive explosion, that created a large crater in the ground. The force was so strong that the water from the pond, that was located nearby, was shot forth into the air and covered the entire field. "Hmm, maybe that was a bit too much" Soichi said aloud as he looked at all of the water around them. Both he and everyone there was soaked.

Mako was glad that Soichi was able to take care the suprise first then proceed to carry out his plan. It was definitely a great display of situational awareness. Now however, it was time to test his ability to fight under pressure.
With the smoke clearing Mako expected to see the replica melted, but he was supprised to see a fireball shooting up vertically in the air. The Soichi replica use the fireball technique to shield itself from the water and wound up succeeding.
"Well then I guess my art isn't so easily washed away, Soichi. So tell me, what will you do now?!"
Mako started to draw again, only this time he drew himself with a bow and the symbol for lightning next to it. He then made the tiger hand seal and said, "Ninpou: Choujuu Giga, Gekigami"
His image stepped off the page and readied the bow. By this time the Soichi replica threw a barrage of shuriken on an arc toward Soichi. At the same time Mako's replica began to fire a hailstorm of what seemed like lightning bolts, while Mako himself began making hand seals.

As Soichi grinned at Mako's remark, "I never said that I was going to use the water to wash him away" Soichi said he began to make hand signs, just as his replica the shuriken at him while an replica of Mako was shooting lightning bolts at him, "Besides, just because he's dry, doesn't mean you are" Soichi said as he looked down at the feet of Mako, where there was water, "From the beginning, I had planned on attacking you, it was just a matter of finding an opening and that smoke bomb gave me just the time I needed to plan this out", Soichi then inhaled "Katon Goukakyuu no Jutsu (Fire Release: Powerful Fireball Technique)" and releases another massive fireball, but this time at the ground below him. Soichi used the force and pure power of the resulting explosion, to lift himself far into the air, dodging both the shuriken and the lightning bolts.
While he was in the air, Soichi made more hand signs, "Yobigoe no Raikou no Jutsu (Call of Lightning Technique)" Suddenly the entire area became engulfed by a dense fog, but it did not last, as the fog rose up into the air and formed thunderstorm clouds, "Alright, lets see" Soichi said as he took out three kunai and threw them on the ground in front of Mako, Mako's Replica and his replica. Just as Soichi landed on the ground, the sound of thunder could be heard, "This is exactly as I planned" Soichi said as he landed in the dry crater he created with his earlier fireball jutsu.
Suddenly lightning began to strike randomly over the entire field, but soon lightning struck each individual kunai that he had thrown at the ground, then the lightning was conducted by the kunai into the water below them all. "As I recall, you told me, I had to defeat my replica. So is it not true that by attacking you, I would also release the replica jutsu in the process?"

Mako had just finished his hand seals when the kunais hit the ground. While it was a good display of resourcefullness, it was careless.
"True by taking me out you end my justsu, but then again that was not the goal of this exercise. You must be able to focus ONLY on the target of your mission, yet still be able to handle any unforeseen obsticles. For example," he said as the lightening rushed toward him.
"You must assume that none of your jutsu will work and that your target will counter everything."
The clone of Mako shot the wire leading to Mako, breking it and allowing himself to be hit. Meanwhile the Soichi clone back flipped and Mako unleashed another jutsu.
"Tsutagami!"
Several white vines emerged and surrounded Soichi's replica in layers. They were destroyed and the replica was damaged, but the test wasn't over yet.
"As you can see unlike most people who use the great beast paintings, my clan's technique is more advanced. The wolf you thought you killed, only disappeared because I released it. We're down to the final portion of this test, Soichi. I want you to try and end this without any ninjutsu."
The replica ran toward Soichi and began to throw several kunai. On top of that Mako was still holding the bird hand seal to continue to call out vines from the gruond.

All soichi could do was grinned as Mako had successfully neutralized a perfectly made jutsu combo, that had taken down over twenty jounin, "Well I guess that is to be expected. After all, he is the head of the ANBU" Soichi thought as he immediately jumped out of the crater and ran towards his replica, throwing the same amount of kunai that his replica was throwing, blocking and deflecting them. As he approached his replica, Soichi concentrated his chakra into his hands and feet, giving more power. "Lets do this" he said as he carefully observed his replica and when he found an opening he went in for an strong uppercut to the chin.

The replica jumped back and then forward again attacking, missing, and dodging. Mako watched as the two Soichis exchanged hits and finally the replica left too big of an opening and was struck hard.
"Well it would seem that the test is almost over," Mako said.
