Subito had never been particularly cautious for a hare and living with a strange jumble of predators hadn’t exactly served to help hone those kinds of instincts. On the contrary, the young hare was just as comfortable around the wild dog or the huge eagle as he was with any random hare that he occasionally met. That was why Subito was now hiding in the bushes as he surveyed the surrounding area, because he had decided that in order to protect his girlfriend he was going to have to do much better than he was doing now. And that’s why he was alone today, hoping to test his alertness and reactions if the day was kind enough to provided a good opportunity for his little practice.
So far he’d only seen a strange bird, flying high in the sky just above his head but too far away to pose any real danger to any creature on the ground. Subito wasn’t going to get careless though. He wanted to be ready should a real emergency truly happen.

Lumi was far more cautious it would seem having grown up in a herd that depending on every single member protecting the ones beside it. Though with the guards around she was more relaxed withing her own lands. Ah, the safety of those sharpened horns was something she was missing. On a mission given to her by her matriarch, the lead female, she was away from home and missing it terribly. Soon though, if the fates allowed it, she would return home though and with friends and new blood for the herd. Their ranks were thinning due to old age and trouble producing offspring, not even mentioning the predators that hunted near their territory. With a heavy sigh, the doe carried herself on cream hooves across the grassy plains, her snowy white body not exactly hiding her well against the sun-stained blades of grass.

Subito heard the rustling of grass before he actually spotted the one who had caused the sound. He was surprised by that fact because it seemed as though one was obligated to notice the blinding white body before catching the sounds and scent of the waterbuck. The white creature was actually rather pretty, Subito decided in silence though he feared for her safety.
“Hello!” he piped up from the bushes, hiding his face right after. He could feel the beginning of a playful mood setting in. The young hare wondered if he could crawl to another location without being noticed but he concluded that he’d probably be found a lot quicker. So he remained quite still, grinning a little as he waited in eager anticipation for the waterbuck’s reaction.
