Hey guys, it's time for another episode of PSA's With Kwaggy!
This episode, we're covering what makes a good solo bot in Dominion! Now, there's two things you're looking for: strong pushing power, and either a decent range or inexorable sustain. Basically this boils down to AP Carries, and a few of the good solo tops. AP Carries because they meet the range requirements, and the good solo tops because they have the sustain. Let's look at an example I frequently see used, and pretty much never to good effect.
Singed is a very strong solo top champion in Summoner's Rift. Poison Trail means even thinking about trading him will cost you health, Fling and Mega Adhesive make you pay for every inch of ground you advance, and his ult gives him speed and CC reduction, making him a slippery mofo. Poison Trail is also one of the best pushing abilities in the game. That's all great, but he's got no damaging abilities with any range, and any competent player in solo bot Dominion isn't going to be dumb enough to chase through the trail since that's the only way he can do anything to you without running face-first into YOUR damage. He's also got no sustain. Sure, on Dominion, you can start with a Catalyst and use that considering how fast you level in that mode, but then you've got no boots, so you're going to get poked to death. Sure, you could play super passive until you have your ult which gives health regen, but it's nowhere near enough to avoid getting similarly poked to death, plus playing passive in Dominion WILL lose you your bottom point. You can't do it, or you'll lose, especially against the stronger champions who are impossible to push off a point solo. All Singed has is that he can push well, which is why solo bot Singed loses to pretty much any other solo bot champion. Now let's look at a GOOD solo bot.
Yorick. Yorick Yorick Yorick YorickYorickYorickYorickYorick. Another than a VERY good Heimerdinger, Yorick has almost no equal in solo bot. He can push really well because his slowing ghoul is an AoE, plus he can basically summon additional minions to push the lane. He has sustain, because his lifesteal ghoul heals him for a LOT, plus gives him bonus lifesteal which he can then use while he's pushing the lane. So right there he meets the requirements for a solo bot. But he's not done there. He also has enough range on his slow ghoul and his lifesteal ghoul that he can trade pokes well. You have to have an INSANE range to actually oust him from lane. He's the immovable object, if the immovable object also occasionally falls over onto your face and hurts like a b***h. So, he's the able-to-move-itself-but-no-one-else-can object, I guess. That's what you need to be. You need to either harass and farm from far enough away that there's little chance of retaliation, OR be able to wade through the harass like it's nothing. Now, let's look at a third, more realistic option. (Also, 90% of everything I said about Yorick also applies to Morgana, except she's more pokey than sustainy)
Malzahar is an awesome solo bot, because he's one of the strongest pushers in the game, plus he has a strong range. Do I really need to say anything else besides space-AIDS kills entire creep waves for free, and once he drops it on a creep he can just walk away? He's also extremely dangerous to try to poke, because chances are he pokes harder than anyone trying to hurt him.
