Beloved Shapeshifter

Trickery had just left Tian Yue's apartments and had casually made her way down to the gardens where she had left her horse, Mocha, to fend for herself. It was turning out to be a lovely day as it always seemed to be lately, everything seemed so much brighter (har har) with the return of the sky. Originally her plan had been to return to her home once she had visited with Tien Lung but instead she decided to linger in the gardens a while and enjoy the sunshine.

For the time being Tien was lounging on the edge of a fountain, hands trailing in the cool water. She practiced with her gifts a bit while she rested, the changes came easier now than they had when she first tried. For now her hair was long like her host's had been, but pitch black instead of brown. The ends of her locks dipped very near the surface of the water.

Her eyes were closed and she appeared surprisingly relaxed, but she still listened for anything aside from the usual sounds of the garden.

In fact, the god seemed rather pensive, as he walked by both fountain and girl. He felt restless, had felt it since growing, really, like if there was so much to do and he had no idea where to even begin.

It made it hard to simply sit down and write, and he hoped a walk would help disperse whatever excess of energy he had. It was how that worked, right ?

The sound of footsteps snapped her back to reality and Tien's eyes opened, seeking out the source of the sound. Another god...one who looked younger than most she had met. He reminded her a bit of the males Morgan had gone to school with, caught on that precipice between childhood and adulthood. Perhaps he was one of the young gods, like Crys, that Tian Yue had mentioned to her once. Well, there was only one way to find out.

Trickery shifted to sit up straighter, taking a better look at the god pacing by her. He seemed rather distracted and his body language spoke a little of uncertainty. "Something troubling you?"

The sound of her voice so close made him jump, quite literally, but he seemed to calm down when he finally spotted her. Well, good job at actually looking nice and mature in front of someone he didn't even know.

Really, good job, Lament.

"Ah... Nothing too important." He offered, a small smile forming under his veil. He wasn't sure she'd understand - she was most likely a reborn goddess, and they... Well, they'd never had to deal with being a child and then suddenly not being one. "Did I bother you ?"

Tien smiled and shook her head. "Not at all. I just came out to enjoy the sun, meeting someone new makes it so much the better." She reached into a pouch at her waist and drew out a leather thong, tying up her temporarily longer locks in a loose ponytail and letting it drape over her shoulder. "I apologize for startling you, it wasn't my intention."

Trickery wore her tatted mask, but it barely hid a thing. She wished now that she had thought to try a more complete disguise, aside from her hair and changing the color of her wings which were shifting subtly as she spoke. "If I may ask, whom is it I've just met?"

He watched her tie up her own hair, realizing that maybe he should do the same with his own. Really, he wasn't used to the length quite yet - it often seemed to get in the way, and at the worst times possible at that.

"Akakios." He said with a nod. "Lament. And you would be ?"

"You can call me Robin." She smiled again, though not overdoing it. It would be no fun to give the game away after all! If Akakios was a bright boy would figure out the whole of it on his own soon enough. It wasn't entirely a lie; it was another Trickster's name after all, so it was really just another name for herself.

Tien offered a little half bow from her seated position. "Well met, Lament. You are more than welcome to join me if you wish."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Robin ? That sounded... well, not really like the kind of names gods usually used. Unless she was an host, but...

No, it didn't feel like a sleeping power. It hadn't felt like Enekpe had felt. She felt undeniably divine. So while he had a vague idea of strangeness, he hadn't quite caught up on Tien's agenda yet.

Still, he joined her, carefully stepping over and then sitting on the side of the fountain - he saw small gold pieces at the bottom, and blinked. What were these doing here ?

Really, he had no idea about how throwing a penny in a fountain was meant to make wishes come true. "I think they dropped something in there..." He said, puzzled.

"Hn?" Tien glanced over her shoulder, not sure at first what Lament was looking at. "Oh, those...likely left by some mortal visitors. It's a custom of sorts, dropping a coin into a fountain, or well, and making a wish. If you think about it, what better place to do it than the home of the gods where someone might hear and grant your wish." Though, of course the results might vary depending on who decided to answer. Her gaze flicked back to his and she grinned widely.

She conjured a small coin, rolling it across her knuckles. "I'd ask if you'd like to try, but I can't imagine what another god might wish for."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Oh, he hadn't known that. "I wonder if anyone ever wished something from me ?" He mused, almost child-like. Tien's guess of someone caught in-between had been perfectly right on that aspect. There was still a lot of child-like innocence clinging about in this one.

"How am I supposed to know if they did ?" He asked, curious. No, he seemed to have little intention to try it, but there was definitively interest.

With a flick of her wrist she tossed the coin in the air, catching it before it could land in the water, opening her hand a moment later and the coin was gone. "There was a lot of death during the weeks of Gehenna, I imagine mortals might've come after to pray and wish for those who had passed to rest peacefully. Not wishes meant for you alone necessarily, but at least in part."

Trickery tilted her head. "Oh..what this?" She reached out and plucked the seemingly vanished coin from behind his ear. Just a little parlor trick, albeit done with her gifts. She studied the coin as she thought about his question. "It's just something you would feel. Here..." She motioned to his head. "and here." To his heart. "I'm sure there are at least a few already, whose belief you would feel...burning like little flames inside."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."There were a lot of deaths then, yes." He nodded. He didn't seem sad about it, it was simply... how things had been. "I was too young to understand back then. Maybe it was better that way."

If would have certainly be bad to fear for his existence while it had just began.

He blinked as she fetched the coin, and smiled fondly. "You remind me of Mystery. Have you met him ?" Maybe she was his... well, the other Mystery. Gods came in pairs.

Did that mean there was another Lament around ? Confusing.

"..I think I know what you mean." Tasia. The kids from the day of the dead. His hand went to the veil on pure reflex, fingering the lace carefully.

"I have and its probably best that you were, it was quite the traumatic experience from what I've heard." The coin disappeared again and Tien turned on the edge of the fountain, pulling up her legs so she sat cross legged and facing him. A ghost of a smile crept over her lips as he touched the veil. From the way he treated it, it must've been from someone quite dear.

"So you are one of the younglings then?" She was fairly certain he was, couldn't hurt to make sure.

"Yes, I am." He nodded. There was no shame in that, right ? They'd all been young and inexperienced once. It just happened that, for most of the gods, that time had been ages ago, before they all faded. "I wonder sometimes if there was another Lament once. And what happened to him if I am here now ?"

Aha! "It would stand to reason there would've been. No name, nor face, springs to mind for me however, so as to an identity I cannot help. The Great Library might be able to offer you something on that point. As far as their fate I can offer a little advice, perhaps ask the Eldest he might know what befell your predecessor." Tien watched his expression and body language carefully. Under that man-child exterior there was a thoughtful mind there.

"I would not dwell on it overmuch though young Lament, as you are not that one. You are not bound to deal with missing memories or remnants of a mortal. You are fresh, new and have your own chance to prosper." Trickery clapped him on the shoulder gently, leaning in a bit closer to look him in the eyes. "Keep a good head on your shoulders, do your best and I'm sure your parents would be proud of you."
