It was a beautiful crystal clear day, the sun was shining high, the birds were singing, dog walkers were appreciating the warming weather in Destiny City's grand central park. It was a day to do things to. To get plans rolling and schemes solving and above all find un-woken Senshi just waiting to be corrupted....or that is what any normal guardian cat would be thinking if their mind was that of the red furred cat that was Lyssa. She had much more important things to do. Very important.

It was gift day.

And not just for any of these people walking about! Oh no, there was a very special person that needed a gift today. Someone was having a birthday. A hundred and thirty three years old and counting! They needed an extra special present, one that reflected the deep, subtle jokes he and Lyssa had shared, the quirky banter he caught her out with and the soft advice he was always willing to pass on. Reginald Fawkes had died in the first world war, a strange ritual humans did from time to time when they got bored or needed more people in the earth. Lyssa considered it a wonderful idea! Why there was never enough people in the ground, imagine all the new people she would meet!

So as the beautiful weather continued to go unnoticed Lyssa was scouting out the park, a few hints of a dig started and then abandon lay behind her but she was getting closer. She could smell it. Her paws itched with excitement and she stretched out, once, twice, three times with an added kick of her back legs. She had to concentrate if she wanted to find the bounty that lay beneath her and she blocked out the sounds of the world for the sounds that lay behind her eyes.

A beat pounded its way through his brain and into the step of the young man who made his way through the park. The online radio was having a good streak, not a single thumbs down since he started his walk fifteen minutes prior. The weather was nice, and he'd tied his beige hoodie around his hips, dark tee shirt absorbing enough of the sunlight as it was. Could probably fall asleep out here if he wasn't careful...

As it was, Devlin was out for a purpose. His cell, source of the music echoing through his headphones, was in his hand and ready to catch some fun footage. Here and there he stopped to record something he found interesting, but for the most part he just kept walking and looking every which way to make sure he wasn't missing something. Which.... well.

Pros and cons of there apparently not being much to miss today.

His gaze flickering about, turning the cell this way and that in his hand, and a sharp stab of color made him for the briefest of moments freeze. A cat? A red cat. What was a cat doing out here? His sneaker clad feet took him off towards the feline easily enough, though kept his distance as he checked the area. No owner seemed to be lurking around to keep an eye on the thing. The collar was pretty obvious though against the red fur. Who let their cat wander like this in a city? --....was the grass dug up? And there, and over there... what.

Devlin looked back to the cat, a little perplexed. Was she the cause..? He lowered himself into a crouch, arms resting on either thigh with a brow raised. "The ******** you up to, p***y cat?" he more mumbled to himself. Of course even if the cat heard him she wouldn't just talk back or whatever. But his finger was resting on the camera button on his cell, curious to see if the animal would provide some entertainment. If anything, her fur was a nice color and the patterns were kinda cool looking... there might be hope yet to this outting.

Lyssa was paw deep in interrogation mode when the boy approached and strangely it wasn't with said human. A worm had appeared. Appeared on her territory. And there was a pact you know. A pack she religiously upheld. A pack that said this land was hers. Things.....were about to get serious.

Her tail hit out, bouncing on the ground and back up so hard she had to lower her hide every time it moved. It felt good to move, so good. If she could just twist her tail now and again that would be even better. But it would have to wait till later! The worm was giving out his demands again and she had already forgotten the first two. All she wanted was free access to her treasure. The worms of course always had other ideas and right now this one was giving her all that. No manners and no finesse. It was a crime.

The shadow of the long legged creature swamped her form and for a second the annelid went quite in anticipation. This was her cue to turn around since it was only polite to say good morning to shadowy creatures.

"Mee..oowwffthh?" Ahhh her lisp had returned, how annoying. It seemed to appear every now and again for reasons unknown but she could only put it down to the energy she felt. This human was special. Earthworm forgotten (but not forgiven) she stopped her hurried digging and walked up to him, her ears twitching maniacally as she sniffed his aura. Ohhhh it smelt bitter. The taste reminded her of broken homes and lost friends. She blinked, one eye after the other as she sat, a sudden need to lick her right side took over her and then she was back up straight.

Staring.

When he noticed the cat was staring at the worm he expected her to go after it, maybe bat it around or something. He'd pressed the camera button, holding the cell a little higher in front of him. But then she... did nothing. Well, least not to the worm. Her awkward meow made him snort, mouth twitching up in a bit of a smile. Weird cat this one was turning out to be. The lack of worm harassing wasn't a large loss, so the camera kept going when she approached him.

The twitching ears continued the weird cat theme, and her blinking made him wonder if she might have hit her head against a tree one too many times. But nothing terribly interesting to report. The cat was... a cat. With a weird mark on her head. He wanted to reach out and poke at it. A sticker some brat kid put on her, maybe? Instead, he stretched out his free hand to see if she'd let him bat a finger against the heart charm off her collar. "Who'd pay for a collar then let'cha wander 'round like this? Wast'a money." Devlin paused for a moment, still looking at the charm, before shrugging. "Or'd you pull a Houdini to prowl 'round the park, cat? Show the worms who's boss?"

A small part of his mind asked him why he was talking to a cat. The rest of it retorted he was just that bored. And people do say cats are intelligent little buggers, so who knew? Maybe something he was saying would make sense to the fur ball.

The cat continued to look up patiently. Was the human here to negotiate with the worms as well? Dam those creatures! So many loop holes to abuse its no wonder they got the graveyards! She watched carefully as he zoomed in on her features with the camera, staring tiredly at the mechanic instrument as it recorded her life in its data. Not that she knew what the hell she was staring at. Technology although familiar was something Lyssa preferred to avoid. The static waves intervened with the ones she sent out and the buzzing made her anxious. She preferred too keep her tools to a minimal when they involved a battery.

“Meeeooppth…” She battered a paw towards the phone, maybe he was giving it to her? Oh she never got gifts herself! Well people had learnt. Any gift given was a gift she could give away. The trait of surprising her with any present was soon put to a stop when items of an expensive nature were used to negotiate with otherworldly creatures…mainly socks.

“Meeeiii-oth” Her legs stretched and re-stretched behind her as she tried to balance on only two paws at a time, one batting at the camera the other shaking out behind her. If this wasn’t first class footage who knows what was! Even if all she was still trying to do was to get the boy to pass it down to her. “Meeoo-ssthh…”

Well, some people were just being rude! Offering a lady a present and then keeping it out of arms reach! He mustn’t be here to help her at all…..he must be….

Oh lady chaos he was an ally of the worms!

The cat was cute, he'd give her that. The way she reached for his phone was interesting footage, though hell if he had any concept of how he'd use it. He'd probably be hit with something though, once he started playing with things at home. "Damn acrobat," he mumbled, lips pursing in amusement to her strange balancing act. As it was, the phone was definitely not a gift for her. Not even in her wildest dreams would he give up something so expensive. Maybe if he had a replacement in hand... but even then he'd be far too tempted to sell the old one for more cash. He withdrew it a bit from her to keep her from clawing it or something. No scratches on the lens!

"Like hell I'm lettin' you get your paws on this." He reached into his pockets, fishing around for something to occupy her with instead. Nope, not giving up change... nothing in that one... house keys he was not risking losing.... ah! After shifting his weight around a bit and changing which hand the cell was in, he finally pulled out a hair tie. He rolled it between his index and thumb towards her, waiting to see if she'd go after the thing instead of his phone. He glanced at the screen. Still had some time before he had to save the file and start up a new one.

He let out a puff of a sigh. Should have kept his distance to see if the cat'd go after the worm or something. "Take this instead. Cats like random s**t like this, don't they?" There was neither feline, canine, or avian household member for this young man. Pet food cost too much. About all he knew came from flipping through Animal Planet or whatever he saw on the internet. Though unless this cat was going to start spouting memes...

Lyssa though was less than amused. Sure the boy reeked of interesting things and had an air around him that danced when he spoke but he was tempting the wrath of a creature older than time here! And that was never a good thing, especially when said creature had lost their marbles long ago. She wanted the phone. It was a gift, a gift for her and it was only expected that she should have it. But the boy, he didn’t quite understanding the mechanics of a present giving ceremony! She would have to show him of course.

Preparing to launch at his mobile with her full weight the boy produced the hair tie. Good move human, good move. The object flicked between his fingers like a twirling leaf in the breeze and she was automaticly hypnotised. Well...as much as one could be with a condition such as hers. Her face twitched showing teeth and gums, her nose betraying her trance like state as it wiggled in protest. Ohh she like that. That item was better than the blocky one, it didn’t move like this one. This one moved with the grace of a thousand pygmy shrews, and they were ever so graceful.

She battered anew at the item quickly claiming it as her own. It was so beautiful, its intricate details, the way it flexed and bounced, the shiny metal bit that tasted of pennies. It was so elegant and refined. Looking back up she stared at the human, was that joy in its eye? Happiness? Gratitude? It was hard to say with her blinking every few seconds but what ever it was a deep resounding purr echoed throughout her body in response. She had never had a gift like this before! And so it must be kept safe, safe where it would never ever be lost. Ever. Without a second though she beat down towards the gift and proceeded to swallow it whole.

The energy from the cat confounded him, so unused to spending any amount of time with four legged critters. Or at least any that moved beyond a window sill. Were they supposed to be so... spastic? But then. They often were in the videos online, so maybe this was typical cat behavior.

At least his alternate toy seemed to go over well. Pleased that his phone would be left alone, he rested his chin in the palm of his other hand after releasing the hair tie. Was the cat having a seizure? Do cats even get seizures? The way the face twitched, teeth and gums flickered into view... he let out a quick burst of a laugh. Elbow digging into his lower thigh, it was comfortable enough to continue his filming and... observations. Another glance was given to the recording time on his phone. A minute or so left till the file would be full. Really, he was shocked he'd stayed this long. It was a cat. A neat looking cat, but an animal nonetheless. Likely no more interesting to him than a rock had it not been so energetic.

Even if it was purring. That was sort of cute, sure. Leaning off of his other hand, he reached it out to finally try and give the cat a quick scratch behind the ear. He figured by now it wouldn't be out of line to pet the cat, least while it was distracted by the--

"...oh god."

Wide eyes stared at what he just witnessed. There was the tie one second, and then the next.. gulp. Down. Gone. He pressed his lips tight in a line and sucked them back between his teeth slightly, trying to keep the laughter inside him. His shoulders were soon shaking from his efforts.

"You-- what... the <********> did you... just do, cat?" He wasn't yelling. In fact, he was laughing hard enough for him to have a difficulty speaking. It ate the hair tie! Ate it! His head rolled forward, shaking in defeat. Clearly, there was no form of victory with this creature. And there was no way he would be wanting his hair tie back after this, thank you.

A finger moved across the screen of his phone, stopping the recording. Well at least this had all been more interesting than he'd expected. "Since that's all I've got... and my file's almost full. I think. I think that's a sign for me to get out of your way." Laughing still, he reached out again to pet the cat, aiming to run his hand from it's head down it's back. If the cat would let him. "Christ, can't believe you ate it... hope it tasted good at least."

With considerable effort Lyssa’s throat negotiated the hair tie with little more than a passing glance. This kitty had swallowed her fair share of inanimate objects and had developed an iron throat of sorts for such occasions where she felt the need to eat something not meant for feline consumption….or anyone’s consumption really. Truly her internal body work was no better than an industrial shipping yard and yet somehow she had yet to choke to death on a sock.

The touch of his fingers behind her ears had her temporarily dazzled. There was nothing like scratches from something with fingers, even better if they were alive and not recently deceased like her usual friends, although they always had the better stories to tell. Watching him touch the plastic device she grinned at his words, although it could have been another seizure type movement as it almost seemed like she was agreeing with his statement. The exchange of gifts was indeed the perfect time to depart, what else was there to do? Exchange insurance details? ABSURD. But also incredibly complex, this young boy was intriguing to the now very constipated kitty. She would have to keep her optical spheres on this one.

Letting him run the length of her body she gave a gurgling purr of pleasure before promptly vomiting over his shoes. No bobble in sight Lyssa knew the boy would see this as the highest level of respect. A message of friendship if you will. And she could totally sense he would cherish it always, his facial features assured her of that completely. Her job here was done. She would find her friend again when the time was right and he was ready to return the gesture. Light she hopped so! There was nothing quite like freshly squeezed friendship. With unblinking eyes she nodded once more to him, even if he was preoccupied, and slowly started backing towards the cover of bushes and almost certainly a ditch.
