Before I get flamed, which I hope I don't because I want to discuss this and will listen, let me explain.

Prostitution is always going to be around. Women like it, men like it. It will always happen. Legalizing it will mean that the rate of human trafficking will decrease. Legalizing it will mean the use of drugs such as heroin will decrease as the women and men will be checked regularly and lose their job should they have drugs in their system. What are your thoughts?

I guess I see your point, but I also think you should consider that a lot of times people resort to prostitution because they want money to buy drugs and alcohol. Legalizing it could also increase rape and murder numbers. A lot of times men like to kill the prostitutes after... ya know... doing them. It's some sort of fetish that I personally don't understand. The rape would be caused by men that are used to having women give into whatever thee want. They would be pissed off when a women that he likes ISN'T a prostitute and refuses to have sex with him. This could lead to him raping/kidnapping/getting her involved in a domestic violence situation. Another issue would be with the fact that all the money given to people for doing theses sorts of things is money leaving out broken economy. Money that could help bring America back to its feet.

The point about drugs isn't realistic. There isn't a Prostitutes Inc. or a big head quarters. Prostitutes have no CEO or boss. They work for themselves. Even if it were to become legalized and some sort of organization were to be made, the girls could just not work for that organization and continue to work for themselves. In other words they would not be checked for drugs, and they have no boss so they couldn't be fired.

You guys have some weird generalised views on prostitution... There are plenty of women who don't like it, hell, some of the women who do it don't like it. There are lots of guys who don't like it, as well. Why do you think there are so many laws passed against it? For a very long time, women weren't even allowed to vote, let alone be in senate or congress. Men passed the laws making prostitution illegal.

As for actually legalising it? What do you think the pornography industry is?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 01, 2012 5:50 pm

You don't fully understand the point here. They wouldn't work for a business, they would work for themselves and pay some sort of fee for the licence to do it. It would be a job in which they do contribute as the money they earn would be put back into the economy the same way most people do. Buying things. they would be obliged to pay for simple health checks from their profits and they would be protected through laws such as tougher punishments for abusers. Yes, rape would still happen because some men, and women are just that sick but they would not allowed to work legally if they have drugs in there system. It would just be another job, as some women choose to do it. And yes, pornography is basically legalized prostitution but this would be far more personal.

How would you tax them? Would this be like..self-employee tax form? Would there be a union?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 01, 2012 6:01 pm

I don't see why not. And why wouldn't they have a union.

I have actually been saying this same thing for years. I went to Pompeii and there was a little p***s carved into the road to point out the brothel. Prostitution has been around probably as long as there's been forms of currency to pay them with. Legalizing it and adding a license would make it legit and safe. It would most likely reduce violence and rape if the sex workers were actually able to go to the police about issues. It would also be safer for clients without pimps or police or anything. I imagine it would be self-emplyeed type thing, but possibly "agents" to set up appointment and do background checks on clients to keep employees safe.

Exactly my point. Yes, it won't completely rule out rape but nothing ever really will. thank you, I thought I was drowning on my first swim here.

Doesn't Amsterdam already legalize it?

It is the same concept as for legalizing marijuana: The government gets to tax the product and we can no longer be arrested for it.

Less crime rates, and think of the possibilities. There could be actual brothels out there. Don't like it? Stay away from them. Better than looking out on the streets of your own community to see young girls and old hags selling themselves. There could be laws to say what can and cannot fly- to make it cleaner. Safer: manditory condems/protection reduces the risk of HIV being passed around.

It is a brilliant idea, I think.

I don't think you are understanding the point here, sex isn't a form of 'goods'. It isn't manufactured. It would essentially give the economy that extra push that would totally destroy it. Besides, prostitution would take all of the value of sex away. It would also give men- MARRIED men- the right to go out and have sex with a prostitute because his wife wasn't in the mood. Yes, it would still be wrong, but it would be legal. It would take away the value of LOVE. Love is being with someone you care about, someone you want to spend the rest of your life with. Someone you will eventually *in some cases* start a family with. Sex is supposed to be beautiful thing that two people who love each other do. It's REPRODUCTION. It isn't intended to happen just to make people feel good.

Sometimes women have no choice. Do you really think that is what someone would dream of doing when they are older? Having sex with whoever wants to have sex with you? No. The dream is to have a family, a nice house, a secure job that you can eventually retire from. Prostitutes become what they are because they can't find a job, or they are desperate for money. Fix the poverty and the economy, then see how many prostitutes will be walking the streets. The girls that DO choose to do it will most likely be in the porn industry. They can get more money for it (at least I think so) and they can become well known and even win awards.

Exactly, and for those who want really hardcore stuff there could be people who are trained to handle it and specialize in it. And there would be strict rules that the clients would have to follow. And yeah, Amsterdam does legalize it I think, and that seems to be working fine.

1, They would get paid, this would get put back into the economy as they would be taxed for it. It is working in Amsterdam and I believe some other countries. Why the hell not?
2, MARRIED men have always, and will always go to prostitution. Legal or illegal they will. And so will women. Sex is often just for the hell of it.
3, I can tell you are severely Christian just from the whole reproduction thing, so arguing seems pointless.
4, Yes, you can retire from it. Yes, people would like to do it and many choose it and I personally don't see what is so wrong with that. It is there body, why don't they treat it the way they want to. I personally wouldn't but I can see why some people would.
