Gaia Name: Irako of the Desert
Character Name: Zabre Zanover
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Position: Indigo family Capo
Region: Kanto
Background: I was raised by my aunt in Pallet Town, who is a breeder renowned for her technique of successfully breeding unusually colored Pokemon. Each Pokemon that she breeds is worth at least several thousand, and the highest price she's ever sold one for was 1.4 billion (She managed to successfully breed a black Charmander). Unfortunately, the value of her Pokemon brought her to the attention of the major families. They began raiding her farm and forcing her to pay "protection fees" so they wouldn't kill her valuable breeding stock or destroy her farm. I was forced to watch her beg for mercy from the Rocket Family, the Galactic Family, and all the others. The poor woman, once so proud and sure of herself, was reduced to begging! A Zanover, known for their pride, reduced to begging for mercy. I couldn't bear to see my aunt do that, so I went on a journey to Cerulean, where the Indigo family was rumored to be based. I didn't have any idea of what I would do if I found the Indigo family, or how to even find them, but I acted with the hope that they stood for justice. After all, they were the only family that hadn't threatened my aunt.
I had stayed in the city for a few weeks, being rather unsubtle about my questions about the Indigo family. Finally, I was approached by a captain of the Indigo family (though at the time I hadn't known it) and surreptitiously interviewed about my motives. The captain, impressed by my sheer audacity and courage, challenged me to a Pokemon battle. It was the toughest battle I and my Pokemon had ever been in, and of course, we lost. At that point, the captain revealed who he was and offered me a position as one of his soldiers. In exchange, they would keep my aunt and her farm relatively safe as long as she paid minor protection fees, which were nothing compared to what the other families were demanding.
I trained hard and offered myself up for the most dangerous of missions. It was during my time as a soldier that I earned the nickname "the Magician", because no matter how bad of a situation I got myself into, I always managed to find a way back out as if by magic. I could pull off jobs nobody else was crazy enough to take, and was rewarded with increased protection for my aunt. I was as happy as a mafia member could be for the two years that I worked as a soldier.
Then my captain got bumped off in a shoot-out, and there was a gap in the ranks. The president chose me to take over, hoping my 'magic' would continue to work wonders for him. Now I have my own soldiers and there never was a more tightly-knit bunch. With my promotion, I was able to take over the protection of my aunt part of the time. While I'd been gone, I'd written her letters and stuff, telling her that I was all right, but I'd never been able to visit. She was quite shocked to see me with my soldiers and was rather upset at first when she discovered what I'd been doing. She came around, though, partly because she realized that it was because of me she'd stayed safe for the past two years, and partly because my soldiers were so courteous to her. She gave them each one of her Pokemon to raise and offered to continue breeding Pokemon for the Indigo family at no charge. For me, she gave me twin Absols that were an extremely rare shade of red.
The Absols and I hit it off right away, and they worked as hard as I did. Now, they're symbols of terror for the other families, because they know that I'm not far behind. My aunt's farm is a secret base for the Indigo family, and every new member receives one of her Pokemon after proving themselves in some way.
The reason for the mask is to cover up a pretty nasty scar over my left eye. I got clipped by a Rocket Zangoose's claws on one of my first missions because I hadn't been paying attention to my surroundings. I didn't lose my sight thanks to some quick thinking on one of my cohort's part, but I was left with the scar. It doesn't look anything like what romantic heroes have, though I'm told that it'll fade with time. Right now, it's disgusting, and I wear the mask to spare others that view.
My cousin, Darena, is like my sister, but we're currently not speaking. Her hunt for Mew is for the wrong reasons, and I have this bad feeling she's going to end up hurt if she keeps going down this path. I tried to convince her to stop it, but after finding out that I'm mafia in a kidnap incident that was largely my fault, she didn't want to have anything to do with me and even threatened to turn me in! I'm still watching out for her, though, and if she finds that Mew, it's gonna be my job to protect her from it.
