Calixte was bored. She was tired. But she had to keep going until she found one more Cerynei. That was what she told herself, anyway. Having wandered the plains, forests, and mountains with Kenton and Trovin, Cali had taken a break from the boys to see if she had any luck on her own. So far, the swamps had been unkind and the beaches had shown no sign of life. What was left of her resolve was a sigh on the wind, but she had to find one more - just one more.

As she wandered back through yet another forest, Cali listened to the chirping of the birds and the whispering of the trees. There was no one in the forest's 'gossip range' for miles... Or that's what it seemed like. It could very well just be that whatever Cerynei were nearby blended in so well that the trees themselves didn't notice them. Cerynei were very good at hiding, Calixte had found.

Stopping for a drink at a small stream, Cali laid down by the water's edge, letting her leafy hair flow in the current.

Keii stretched her neck, tilting her head from side to side.
It seemed to her that Akuba seemed to have all in hand, the two were dear friends and now she felt - it was time for a change. He had taken her in as a faun, the first Cerynei faun to reach the soquili lands, all her life she had spent explaining what she knew. With her basket documents were attached and woven delicately,Akuba had found in her basket, huddled around a book of history. It was a book which at that age she could not read, but she swore that she'd learn and that she did.

When they Cerynei were unknown she had been teased about her tail and big ears, but it was her tail in particular. It was evident that someone wanted her to tell this world about the history of the Cerynei. In her own mind when they were unknown she was an ambassador. At the time of her foal hood she was alone, because it was a good while before her breed had decided to reproduce and most other adult Cerynei were Cerynei exclusive.

Keii did one last patrol around Akuba's lands on her way out into the world, she wondered who she'd meet, what she'd meet and what they'd make of each other. Walking along the waters edge she pondered about how her poor son would get on without her, but then she smiled and thought, ' he'll be fine.' She lived close to the river so it was a common place for other soquili to pass, she knew the soquili who visited most often, but everyday there was always someone new. She made no attempt to hide as her white coat only worked in the winter or in the frosty mountains - however - her hoovesteps were always light and inaudible even to other Cerynei, she'd mastered this over quite sometime and laughed at the more predatory soquili, for their footsteps were always too heavy, even if they tried to tiptoe her ears could hear them or their breathing.

Keii strode along the water's edge, something wasn't quite right, she knew it in the back of her mind, her eyes locked on the figure at the water's edge.
'Either someone has viciously vandalised and displaced this bush or...' her icey blue eyes focused as she slowed down further,' that's another soquili...good disguise... but why hide...?' She thought.

Time to test the waters. She liked to know what the soquili was like before she properly approached, she stopped walking and paused briefly, if they were sharp they'd see her, but maybe bolt off too. She began to walk again towards the figure without a single word.

Having closed her eyes and dozed off a bit in the coolness of the stream, it took Cali a moment to register that the atmosphere around her had changed. Rather than the normal, busy sounds of a forest in motion, a slight hush had come over the birds and squirrels nearby - almost as if they were holding their breath and sneaking up on something.

Her eyes flashed open in an instant, trying to find whatever the disturbance was that had instilled such quiet in the creatures around her. Her sight immediately focused on something white. Whatever it was was slightly distorted - she was sideways, after all. Cali got to her feet and shook out her mane, spraying water and getting ready to confront whomever was standing in front of her. Except, when she looked closer at the figure in front of her and through the adrenaline rush from the shock of such an intrusion, she saw a slender Cerynei.

A Cerynei? It couldn't be. Just when she'd been about to give up hope, one had appeared in front of her. It was akin to a miracle. However, as dehydrated as she might be, Cali half-thought that this Cerynei might be nothing more than her imagination giving her what she so longed to see. So when she asked, "Are you real?" it might have come out a bit more blunt than she intended.

Keii knew not of why the forest birds hushed for she would only have them quiet if she asked it of them. She was no predatory animal but still rabbits scurried. This level of silence didn't make her seem like a good friendly doe. Oh no - it all together seemed perhaps more sinister than it was.

Clear in her sights the stranger's eyes flashed open and focused on her with a hazy glow, the glow soon intensified. As the soquili stood she did not slow, she actually sped up, a silly move to make but she daren't say she wasn't interested.

Cloven hooves, short tail - her eyes moved towards the soquili's face, a Cerynei? It must be, she knew it had to be, but as her clear cold eyes regarded the other presumed doe she'd noticed her ears were not the conventional shape and her mane appeared to be made of leaves and branches. This did not surprise her as she'd seen a lot of new soquili wandering through all the time and there was once a time she was pushed out and teased because of her breed and heritage but she sought out to teach those who were willing to listen.

Keii laughed lightly and smiled at the other doe's question,"of course I am real", she stopped out of hooves reach and regarded the doe,"why? Are you real?"
She joked and thought nothing more of it,"my name's Keii and who are you? I don't think I've seen your face around before."

Cali took a balancing step forward to rub off the momentum of standing up. Her hoof splashed into the water a little, making it gurgle and fuss. She studied the small mare before her. Keii - that was her name - was a pretty frosty white with blue edges, colors that she'd never seen on a Cerynei before. Cali smiled at Keii's reply to her silly question. The mare knew how to take something and make light of it.

"My name is Calixte," she replied. "I am not from this place... I was just passing through, looking for Cerynei. Thank you for approaching me, by the way, even if you did startle me - I probably wouldn't have noticed you otherwise."

Looking at her a bit more closely, Cali stepped further into the stream. She had a certain air that seemed familiar... Almost like Kenton, but quite different for obvious reasons. "You... You're not originally from the Kawani Lands, are you?" she asked, not entirely sure. It might have been a look, or some bit of her demeanor... Or maybe it was just because she was a Cerynei - Cali knew what it was like to feel foreign, and so did almost every one of the Cerynei she had found. Maybe there was a bond there that tied them together, even in the smallest way...

Pondering that, Cali finished her walk across the stream. It began to ripple passively again, leaving no trace that she had been there. Happy to meet someone new after a journey of monotony, the little blue butterflies that surrounded Cali flew out to meet Keii.

"Well it's nice to meet you Calixte", she said eying the mare," I can tell. Have you come far?" She just asked the question to make conversation, of course she'd come from afar her mane was made of leaves.

"I am sincerely sorry for startling you", her face looked serious,"looking for Cerynei? May I ask why, if it's not too rude of me to but into your business."
She focused her eyes on two nesting birds and then they flittered off.

As soon as the new acquaintance asked the question she abruptly turned her head back to her,"no...not I'm not, but I grew up here. My circumstances where quite mysterious." She laughed to herself lightly.

As the first faun to grow up in the lands for hundreds of years she was asked questions and ridiculed, when she was a faun she didn't understand at first but grew to understand why. Keii watched the butterflies flutter around her and then return to Calixte, she was as close a-descendant of the trees as you could get. And yes it was rumoured in folk lore that the Cerynei were born from nature.

As she listened to the pretty doe, Cali found herself a little bit more at ease. "It is my pleasure," Calixte said in response to Keii's display of courtesy. It was something that Cali counted as important among acquaintances, even though it appeared to be fading in these lands. It gave one a certain rare sophistication. "I have come very far from my homeland," Cali said, smiling slightly. She did not mention that one could only dream of how far - across an ocean, in fact.

Cali addressed Keii's next question with ease - "My friend and I are starting a herd for others like ourselves, and we are searching out other Cerynei to join us. So far, I have run into some poor luck. You are the first one I have found on my own, and you did find me, so..." Trailing off, Cali cleared her throat. "If you would like, I can tell you more about it. You are also invited to join, being a Cerynei. It would be wonderful to have one who knows the land among our ranks. We're not altogether familiar with the land yet, you see, and it would be well-advised to have someone who is around," she continued, hoping she wasn't talking too much. She had yet to fully learn the customs of this land, but she was enjoying her new-found freedom - during her time in Greece, she had, unfortunately, found that women were meant to be seen and not heard. In the Kawani Lands, however, that custom did not seem quite so deep-set. Hoping to seem encouraging, Calixte smiled a bit more at Keii.
