Life Hunter
BATTLE ARENA

General Information
The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.

Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.

If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...

If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.

    Mechanics
    - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.

    - you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)

  • Round 1

ATTEMPT ONE

After her atrocious experiences in the Deathsweeper, Candace's confidence had indeed been knocked down several pegs. She almost didn't want to do the life trial. But it was sitting and playing jenga, right?

She walked down the stairs, stopped, and just stared.

The water splashed as piranha swamp about, occasionally flipping out of the water. A read beam of light swept by her, came back and stayed on her face for a few seconds and then moved on without incident. And then the ceiling shook.

Welp. At least there was a chair.

Sighing, Candace carefully walked across the bridge to the middle of the room, sitting down in the chair. So no tricks? Just pull the blocks out like a normal game of jenga? Okay, cool.

Candace only got two blocks out before there was a sudden splash. It startled her and she jumped, the block hitting the tower and knocking the entire thing down. She cursed, but before she could put it back together there was a sudden pinch in the back of her neck. Candace hissed and reached back to grab it.

...A dart? What the hell?

Suddenly the world began to spin and Candace swayed, slumping onto the table and then falling out of her chair.

ATTEMPT TWO

It was several hours before Candace regained consciousness. She groaned and rolled over onto her side, looking around with bleary eyes as she attempted to remember where she was and why she was waking up on the floor. There was a mirror on the floor beside her and she made a grab for it, sluggishly sitting up by pulling herself up with the chair beside her. She looked into the mirror and what did she see?

Someone had come along and drawn on her face in permanent marker. The tip of her nose had been colored a black triangle, she had whiskers drawn on her cheeks, and a little kitty mouth drawn around her lips. What the hell?! Who..?! A glare was cast up at the observation room as she pulled herself into the chair and set it aside. Aria had said only one failure, so she only had one more chance, but she refused to let that cloud her judgement. She would get it right this time.

The first five blocks were child's play.

Candace had never liked this game. She found it dull and moronic. But surrounded by piranha and the sweep of red beams of light from waiting snipers? This was kind of fun. Too bad not all board games could be like this, huh?

Five more blocks tossed aside carelessly. She refused to accept failure.

The next block was easy enough. With the block after that Candace found she had to move slower. The block after that the tower swayed and she stopped all together, had hand hovering inches from the unsteady structure. No..no, no! Don't fall! Stay standing! Just a little more--

The tower fell. She ducked with a curse and watched as a dart flew past her head. "HA!"

Two darts stuck her in the back and she was down for the count.

ATTEMPT THREE

Candace woke up staring at the ceiling, her head having been placed on her scarf which had been folded into a makeshift pillow. Eh? Who did that? Oh no...they didn't! Candace scrambled for the mirror and groaned unhappily at the sight. Her eyes had marks around them to appear more cat-like. And tere were whiskers drawn above her brow. Damnit!

Candace climbed into the chair again, determined not to ******** up again. That had been failure number two. ******** that though, she wasn't giving up until she got it right!

Again, the first five blocks were nothing.

ATTEMPT FOUR

Again she was staring at the ceiling when she awoke. "...You know, it's creepy when I know I fell forward but I wake up on my back with my scarf taken off." Candace called out loudly enough for whoever was in the observation room to hear her. She groaned and rolled over, grabbing the mirror and just staring at her face. There were stripes added now, like she was some wild tabby cat.

Well then.

The mirror was put aside as she climbed into the chair again. She would get this right.

Again, the first round was always the easiest.

Candace was taking this very seriously now. She was taking her time between pulling blocks from the tower. What would knock it down? Was her hand shaking? Yes, that was a bad thing. She had to keep her hand away when that happened. She managed to get five more blocks out with all the time she was taking to do it right though. Patience pays off.

One block, two blocks, three blocks-- CRASH!

"Goddamnit." Candace glared at the fallen blocks. She knew what came next. She heard the shot, felt the p***k and then felt the table against her face.

ATTEMPT FIVE

She was still in her chair when she woke up this time, but she did sigh and look toward the mirror propped up beside her. Her little kitty lips had fangs, and there was a collar drawn across the front of her neck. Damn.

That was it. She refused to back down. She would not fail.

She plucked the first five blocks off and dropped them on the floor. She wasn't going to put them on the table. What if their weight knocked something over.

Candace was being cautious now. She refused to let this be another Deathsweeper for her. Ten ******** failures in a row. This was attempt..five? Yeah, five. Man, she really hoped Aria didn't keep up with the Only Three Failures thing, because if she did then Candace was never being repromoted again.

"This marker better come off or I'll find whoever drew on my face, by the way." Candace called out as she plucked a few more pieces out of the tower. The tower stood surprisingly strong despite the fact that she had now removed fifteen pieces. She could build a second tower with what she had removed! Haha!

Maybe she would.

The tower wobbled slightly as she removed the fifteenth piece and she froze, just watching and waiting for the inevitable.

...Nothing happened. Oh thank the lord.

Five more pieces. Five. More. Pieces.

This was the moment of truth.

Candace took a deep breath, cracking her knuckles and waiting for her hands to stop shaking.

One piece, two pieces..the tower didn't so much as sway.

Three, four...

O..oh my god. She could actually do this?!

The fifth piece slid out easily, and Candace just stared. She did it...she..she actually did it! "YES! ******** FINALLY!" Candace stood from her chair and threw her arms in the air, very nearly bumping the table. But she moved away from it, jumping with joy before hurrying out of the arena. She made that tower her b***h.
