Quote: Survey Mission 2BArticle Headline: Family's remains found in local farm close to Seattle. * C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, at least one of them must be an intermediate trainee) *Article contents: It took three weeks for neighbours to stumble upon the Anderson family's remains: it seemed they had been decaying in their house for days prior. So far no witnesses have reported seeing anyone unusual entering or leaving the farm. MECHANICS * MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 2B. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Each player must roll at least three times with rped reactions. Once they have "collected enough information", they can return back and submit a report in this thread. 1- 20: You search around, but don't find any obvious evidence. The house has been taped off and thoroughly perused, it is hard to figure out what actually was there on the time of the incident 21 - 40: You notice the floorboards under you seem to feel sort of light, some parts groaning heavily as you move around. 41 - 60: Upon cutting open the carpet and examining the floorboards further, as you cut into the wood, you notice that it is infested by termites. The entire house, even the walls, seem to be infested. 61 - 80: You try the furniture next, cutting into pieces of wood, sofa, bedding, whatever you see, only to yield the same results 81- 100: There is an odd symbol carved underneath each bed, at first you didn't notice because it didn't seem that important. A sort of spiral curling outwards... * 3 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Cass hadn't exactly been too happy at the result of 'dead animals everywhere' that her last external mission had festered. Yes, it had been time with Marcus, but that was time with Marcus that had been tainted with the dead all over the damn place.
It hadn't been pleasant.
Still, when it came time to tackle some missions again, Cass had forced herself to eager up a bit and..tackle something she hoped wouldn't be too difficult. Her body still fussed at her, and there was a chance an attack on the outside would break some of her still healing bones more properly without the proper backup.
Which was why she'd sent out a message to a couple of newbies she'd seen floating around. One was from her own division, and the other was...well... she didn't know too much about the other one, but three seemed like a safe number. Two healthy newbies and a broken intermediate trainee. There was no way that could go wrong. Plus, with them being in charge of the new blood, it seemed like Cass would be able to at least get them more educated than the Hatchlings had been.
What did they call the new group?
It was a thought to mull about as she sent out a few messages via her phone.Ice Queen Hey Chickadee, this is Cass. I'm heading out on a routine mission. Join me? Shouldn't be dangerous. I'll be at the door of the dorms waiting before heading to the Lighthouse. Chimarii Hey! This is Cassandra Norris. I'm an Intermediate Trainee heading out on mission. Care to come learn the ropes? I'll be waiting at the door of the dorms if you care to join us. With that aside, Cass settled in to wait, her body still aching.
Not bringing the boy with you this time?

Sydney reached up, touching the choker that was Izy for a moment and waiting as he switched to weapon form. She felt more confident holding the crossbow, even if Cass had said this wasn't going to be dangerous. Glancing around her room she checked to make sure everything was in its place, then glanced down to make sure that she was properly equipped.
Izy assured her, his chocolate voice note nearly as calming as it should have been. So she was worried. She wasn't terrified, and she told him as much as she headed down the hall and to the door of the dorms.
"I'm here," Syd said as she saw Cass. "I mean, we're here," she said, holding up Izy for inspection. "We're ready." She sounded almost confident about that fact.
Almost.

Ami was thinking of two things as she walked down the dorm halls. One, how in the world did this "Cassandra Norris" get her number. Ami wasn't even aware people knew her number. Maybe it was a hunter thing? After all, they just issued these things. Ami was never superbly technology savvy, and this situation was no different.
The second question was why this Cassandra had invited her. After all, she was incredibly inexperienced. "Mission" sounded pretty serious. Ami didn't want to jeopardize the hunters right from the get go!
< Aww I think you're tops Ami~ >
Oh shut up she thought to him as she rounded the corner, seeing the older hunter and ... that creepy girl. Faaaabulous. Ami was already judging her.
Still, she couldn't back out now. "Hi. I'm Ami. I'm assuming you're Cassandra?"

"Yep. I'm Cass. Cassie, Cassandra. Call me whichever rolls off your tongue most easily." she smiled in greeting, offering the moon trainee her hand. "I'll have to introduce you to Marcus later. Currently I he's the only intermediate Moon Trainee, and he'll be able to give you a better run of things."
Still, the real surprise would be that the trainee who had called them both out was actually younger than the pair. By three years. Never the less, Cass was ready to greet both of them when they arrived.
"Ladies~ I felt it was safer for you both to be introduced to how things work around here in a gentle manner. Caelius might not be here, but be assured that when he comes back, your likelihood of dying and being horribly maimed will be increased.
Especially on the sudden missions you'll be sent out on." she explained her reasoning quite clearly up front. "You might not need your weapons summoned, but it never hurts to have them ready to go." she nodded in approval at the crossbow in Sydney's hand before she reached for the chain around her belt, snapping one of the links in half as it reformed into the all-terrain Ranged-Melee combo.
"The portal is at the light house," she motioned to the lightless light house, "and we'll be heading to just outside of Seattle to investigate a farm. I'll give you both a heads up we might see dead for real things there, so if you have a weak stomach...well..now you know."
She was trying to keep on task and make sure the bases were covered, but still as she started walking towards the lighthouse she added; "If either of you have any questions, let me know. If needed, later I can help you both get bearings on your weapons in a more one-on-one situation. If that helps."

She... hadn't expected the braid girl, Sydney thought with a glance over at--the hair. What was UP with that hair? It looked as if she would get caught easily, or be choked to death with it wrapped around her throat--it was long enough that she could be hung by it--
Izy teased.
Blood lust? I wasn't--that wasn't-- Sydney stuttered mentally, feeling caught off guard. I just thought the hair was dangerous, she said.
She chose not to answer that as she looked to Cass, following where she led.

Cassandra then. Though she preferred her own nickname, she disliked nicknaming others. Full names just rolled off the tongue better. Ami was just a childhood name, and had stuck by now.
Nevermind that though. Seeing that the other two had already summoned their weapons, Ami unclipped the fish from her pocket, feeling the tiny fish-shaped plastic transform in her hand to a long glaive.
< Hahaha, I'm longer than them. > Junpei whistled in her mind. How she had ever been set up with this imbecile was beyond her. She should've just gone for the blue tablet, seriously. < Heyyyyy. >
"Okay. Let's go." Ami had no time for small talk apparently. She had a perfectly fine stomach, though she found horror films rather ... boring. There was no thrill factor in them any more.

It seemed there were no questions, which was fortunate, she guessed. Either way, they were a pretty armed-to-the-teeth trio at that time, and Cass just lead the group, even up the steps of the lighthouse until they reached the portal. It looked innocent enough, in a way.
"I'll head through first. It's safe, no worries there." she patted the frame of the portal as she stepped through it, stretching as she stepped out onto the other side and started off at the expanse of space that was out ahead of them. Farm. Farm everywhere. It reached out quite a bit, and yet it didn't seem rural either. Part of her wondered if there were hunters who would feel a bit nostalgic about a mission in such a place.
Then again, she imagined Petra would be.
Cassandra.

If things get bad, are you well enough to cover these two?

"Alright, are you to ready to do some looking around? They said a family was found dead here, so.... be sure to remember anything you see, if needed, take pictures with your phone. Even if it seems unimportant, it might be really important later."

Sydney hesitated, looking at the portal for a second before stepping through. She pulled to a stop next to Cass, looking at the farm lands for a long moment. "Real for dead--if some people were found dead, but there's several reasons that could be, even something simple such as poisoned water or food--" she said, trying to think about what it could be.
Izy commented.
It's a farm, they all smell funny, I think, Syd commented. Now hush, I'm trying to figure out what's going on.

Ami was last through the portal, bringing up the rear. She figured their mission was going to involve fighting shadows, or ... fighitng something. Not just smelly old investigations.
By smell and old, it was seriously smelly and old. While Ami understood that rustic life had its charms, a farm was ... well it wasn't the most pleasant smelling place. A frown creased her face. This was not her idea of superhero hunter work. Bogging through manure and pigs. Blech.
Looking around though, nothing seemed unusual. Then again, a smart killer wouldn't just leave signs of their kill.
< Aw man, this is exciting. >
"Ready when you are," she muttered. And you keep quiet, I'm trying to focus." She could practically picture Junpei frowning at her.

"We don't have to stick strictly together, but try to be within earshot of each other, just in case. Stuff like this....likes to look normal. I don't say that in my 1 year experience as a hunter, I say that out of my eleven year experience of being forced into haunted places." And she did. She knew how the paranormal liked to act like everything was fine, but even still....
Cass headed off towards the house, an easy enough place to start. The first thing that struck her was the sudden gust of the scent of rotting, crinkling her nose and pulling her scarf around her lower face for better breathing. She loved that scarf so much. So.
Much. Best uniform idea ever. Not good for the enemy, but for stuff like this? Masterful.
Still, she tucked Nicodemus into her ammo belt as she walked in. A few steps in, however, the floor sunk awkwardly beneath her feet, prompting her to search the house for what she was looking for - a box cutter, and returning to the walkway to cut the carpet out of the floor, yanking it up ******** bugs!" she was really having a penchant for them lately, but..these were termites. In fact, a glance around showed chewed up wood, fabrics, all sorts of fibers from termite activity, prompting Cass to make a very curious face, pulling out her phone and using it to make a note in. "Watch out for the termites, guys!" she called, just in case they were snooping somewhere else.

Sydney moved through the house, careful to stay within yelling distance, but intent on getting a good overview of the place. She hit the first bedroom, glancing around before searching a bit more closely--nothing REALLY caught her attention.
She moved to the second bedroom, starting to look through the drawers and closets--something caught the corner of her eye, but when she turned, she saw nothing outstanding. Just the bed--
Izy asked as she started towards the bed.
"I never used blankets that went over the sides of the bed," she said quietly. "Because it was easier to check for monsters." She crouched down next to the bed, looking under it. There was a carving there. She stood, shoving the bed as hard as she could and revealing it. It was a strange, creepy spiral shape carved into the floor.
She headed to the first bedroom, shoving as hard as she could on the bed there. The same carving was there, as well. "Cass? Cass, you might want to look at this!" she called to the team leader.

Ami watched as the twosome filed into the house, but she had other ideas. Considering Ami was defense, it just seemed smarter to stay outside the house, protecting the twosome inside of the house. Ami was taking the perimeter of the house, perusing the outside of it for clues. This was sort of like Nancy drew! Only ... she was armed with a giant, obnoxious glaive, not a magnifying glass.
< I heard that! >
It seemed as though the house had been untouched. At least, the perimeter did. She heard Cass say something, but it was muffled. Syd seemed all but silent. Nope, it looked as though the coast was clear in this house!
Then Syd yelled for Cass, and it sounded urgent. Should she go help?
< Your friends are in danger, go get them out of the well! >
Oh shut up, she thought, turning towards the door once more.

Cass perked up when she heard her name being called by the other Mist Trainee, moving from her carpet investigation to head to the bedroom to see what it was that Sydney had found. And that... ....
that was interesting, actually. She folded her arms, looking at the spiral shaped markings. "Kind of like the trees in the wood from 'The Ring'." Yeah, because everybody wanted to think about being in a haunted house a-la the Ring. Yep. Where was the TV going haywire when you needed it?
Still, Cass had some easy instructions in this case: "Take a picture of that with your phone. Try to get a shot of both rooms with the beds moved, then get an up close shot of both of the symbols. They might be the same, but as much information as possible will help the Death Division glean any extra information out of it, which will help the Life Division further." she nodded, moving across the house to lean out the front door.
She paused, bouncing on the floorboards a bit, feeling them groan underneath her rather careful step with a frown, brows knitting together, before she leaned out the front door to call to Ami.
"Find anything?"

61 - 80: You try the furniture next, cutting into pieces of wood, sofa, bedding, whatever you see, only to yield the same results Syd took pictures of the rooms and the symbols, making sure she covered as much as she could, then moved on to the bed itself. She dug through her pockets, pulling out a small pocket knife and slitting into the bed. She barely managed not to squeak as she jumped back. Termites poured out of the bedding, spreading like a tidal wave. She headed into the front room after taking a picture of that, as well, and cut into the couch. The same thing happened, making her swear that she would take a shower the MOMENT she got back to the island. Another picture, another object cut into, more termites. "They're EVERYWHERE," she said with disgust. Izy purred.
