Infernos stood in the training grounds, breathing heavier than normal as beads of sweat dripped down his red face. He ached a little, he'd been out here for a long time, a time he lost track of. The sun now sat at his back, instead of over him when he began. Gripping Shroud Breaker's handle, its head resting on the ground, Infernos stared down his opponent. A wooden training dummy, mocked up slightly to mimic an abomination, with branches on its head to give it the look of antlers. Infernos had been training mock combat, repeatedly practicing combat maneuvers until they became a memory in his muscles.
"I know it would be futile to suggest this, but perhaps a break soon?"
. o O ( I can still move, that means I can continue )
" I do not think the Guardians would appreciate you ruining their gift of your existence on a wooden doll"
Shroud Breaker did make sense, often was the case. Infernos wondered though if the wise part of his soul was used in his weapon's creation. Lifting Shroud Breaker from the ground, Infernos stood at ready once more.
. o O ( I will retire shortly, I just wish to practice a little more)
With that, the firey demon charged the dummy, and with a spin, struck his hammer to its side, giving a loud "thunk" and sending small splinters to the ground.

Genesis had been watching Infernos practice for awhile now in the background of the training ground, sitting on a wall. It was a good idea to be practicing, but Genesis had sort of avoided it, she wasn't aggressive in the physical sense and so she hoped that nothing she would have to do for the Guardians would cause her to engage in a physical conflict, but she would do it if she needed to, she needed to be prepared for it. For now, she was trying to learn by observing others.
She watched Infernos pause in combat for a moment, Genesis guessed that he was bored with attacking something that didn't fight back, especially since he had been doing it for awhile now. She jumped off the wall thinking that this was a good opportunity for some practice for herself. As she was walking towards him he nailed the practice dummy with his hammer. Genesis winced slightly as she imagined a pain in her own side. She half debated going back to the wall to observe some more of the action, but her gut was telling her that she needed this. "Care to practice on something that can fight back?" Genesis questioned Infernos. She moved her hand to the handle of her sword and toyed with it, ready to pull it out if he accepted her challenge.

Infernos raised his hammer back, ready for another strike when halted after hearing a voice. Turning around, he noticed he had the company of one of his fellow squires. He tried to recognise the angel, and had remembered seeing her in class, it was taking some time to remember her name.
" Genesis"
. o O ( I'm sorry, what?)
" That is her name, Genesis. I remember all the details about the candidates"
. o O ( Oh.. well thank you then)
Going back to the question laid out before him. "Care to practice on something that can fight back?". An offer to spar? Infernos had yet to find anyone that was was willing to train with him, so the opportunity to spar with Genesis was too good to pass. Infernos hoisted Shroud Breaker to rest on his shoulder and bowed in Genesis' direction.
" I graciously accept your invitation. Though I require a few moments to recuperate"
Infernos hoped Genesis did not mind waiting a few minutes, the sweat from his face was dripping into his eyes and was starting to sting. Walking to the edge of the grounds, he approached a bucket filled with water with a ladle resting inside. Taking the ladle in hand, Infernos took a large drink before scooping up some more and pouring it over his head.

Genesis shrugged her shoulders "Of course." she waited around awkwardly as he rested. Her mind was going over all she had learned as a child, everything about combat and defense, everything she had observed from his fighting. His weapon was heavy... she could work that to her advantage if she could be light on her toes. "Hopefully I did not catch you at an inconvenient time..." Genesis spoke earnestly. She hadn't been close enough to notice that he was exhausted until now. He was still more practiced then her, it seemed, so even with her having the advantage of having full energy, they might be balanced when fighting. Genesis was now getting slightly nervous though, she would hate to look like a fool if she lost.

Infernos shook his his head quickly, trying to remove some of the water from his hair. Wiping his eyes he looked towards his training partner and shook his head once more, only this time as a response to her question.
" I welcome the opportunity to spar with you. Rule 44: How can you know your limits if you stop before you reach them?"
Infernos realised he just quoted one of his rules to someone who probably had not heard of his rulebook. He hoped she would understand his meaning anyway. He strode back into the open area of the grounds, sizing up his opponent while trying to ignore the aches he felt all over.
" Are you sure you are up for this?"
. o O ( Would you ask me to back down if she were an abomination?)
Infernos took the silence as his question answered and went back to looking Genesis over. He'd not seen her out here training like he had been, he wondered how well she engaged in combat. The sword she carried was a quick weapon to wield, a disadvantage for him, but it was something he was learning to overcome. Infernos turned side on, then held Shroud Breaker at the ready.
" When you wish to begin, we may"

Genesis narrowed her eyes, confused by what he had just said. Rules? What rules... how could she not know about these. She couldn't recall anything from her training about rules. It wasn't that he was wrong, and Genesis right now was really going to push her limits by engaging in a spar with another, but she had to wonder who was teaching Infernos these rules. "Alright..."
Genesis took a few steps back, putting a space between her and Infernos. It was now or never. Genesis pulled the two-handed sword out of its holster, it was more heavy then a standard sword, but still lighter then a hammer. Genesis crouched in a defensive pose, her legs ready to move and then nodded her head. "Alright, I am ready." she finally said, they had to start now before her nerves got to her, but she was certainly not going to strike the first blow.

Infernos waited until Genesis was ready, and as soon as she gave the word, Infernos charged. He was not sure of her capabilities, and although this was combat, it was practice. Even while holding a heavy weapon, Infernos closed the gap between them quickly. With a small grunt, Infernos swung Shroud Breaker in an upward arc towards Genesis, a strike that used less force going against gravity.

Genesis was taken by surprise when he swung the weapon up, most of what she had been observed were side swings so she was expecting to try to dodge that and catch him off guard when it didn't connect, but that was not how things went. Genesis was not sure which way to go and she really didn't have much time to think. Genesis swung her sword down to make contact with his hammer, when they clashed together it made a noise like thunder and her blade vibrated all the way up to the handle and tingled through her arms. She wasn't as acquainted with this feeling as she should be. Genesis took a step back.

Infernos reeled back from the impact of weapons clashing, the shock momentarily jolting his aching muscles. He did not pause to rest how ever, instead firmly planting his feet, Infernos spun around and brought the head of Shroud Breaker to the ground, striking towards Genesis feet in order to knock her off them.

Okay, okay, she needed to pull herself back together. She saw saw a moment of opportunity when he swung the hammer to the ground, his momentum was falling forward, leaving him open for attack, or so she hoped. Genesis moved sideways to avoid his hammer and swung her sword at his shoulder.

Every bit of combat training Infernos put himself through was only that, training. He tried his best to prepare himself to be able to protect the young, the innocent and the Guardians way. So when he was struck by Genesis' blade, he was not prepared for the pain that came with it. Taking a step back, Infernos gave a small his in pain, clenching one shut as an involuntary reaction. Shroud Breaker seemed extra heavy to him now, but he held it tightly. To let his weapon fall was to fail as a knight. Infernos dug his feet in and spun around once more. He knew Genesis just dodged a similar attack, but this time he let go of his hammer with one hand, allowing him suddenly extra reach.

Genesis' golden eyes widened when her sword struck him. That was what she intended to do, yes, but she wasn't trying to inflict pain. Although she suppose that is what would be necessary if he was a creature of darkness. The only problem is that he was on her side, and she felt a little bad for hurting a fellow squire. Genesis lowered her sword, still clutching it, but loosely, thinking that they would stop fighting now. But the other pae remained persistent and Genesis was surprised when he came after her again. So much so that she was knocked onto the dirt.
Genesis was now completely vulnerable to attack. She waved her hand in front of her and drew up her Light Wall ability. A white light door sparkled in front of her, shielding her front side, the light was transparent enough that she was still visible behind it. She could feel the drain of it sucking at her energy, something she had not come accustomed to, yet. This would last her long enough to get back up on her feet.

Infernos saw an opportunity to end the battle as she lay before him on the field.Taking away her weapon could give him a severe upper hand. He moved quickly to take the chance given to him before it was gone, closing the gap between them, but was cut short with a large " Bang!". Infernos hit a wall, a very large wall, that appeared out of nowhere. His body was not prepared for the impact and it momentarily knocked the wind out of him. Taking a step back, he looked at Genesis through the barrier.
. o O ( An aegis? no... I've seen an aegis before. They do not stay around like that, or look like that. Could it be... her gift?)
Infernos was still learning about his fellow squire, and hadn't quite attached details to names and appearances just yet. He had to admire the gift though, it was a formidable defensive power, and he felt blessed to have seen it. Infernos realised there was a short moment while his partner composed herself, perhaps enough time to attempt to use one of his own gifts.
Taking a hand off his weapon, he placed it over his bleeding wound and focused as best he could. Infernos drew upon his undying faith in the Guardians, and focused it towards his hand. A small sputtering glow shimmered on his hand, he was young and still learning to develop his abilities. Peeling his hand away, he noticed the bleeding had stopped, but his wound was not healed. Infernos was not worried though, he knew it wasn't his faith that was the issue, he just needed time and practice. Infernos once again held Shroud Breaker at the ready, waiting for his opponent.

Genesis winced as he closed the gap between them, a warm wash of relief covered her when her light wall stopped him. She knew what it was supposed to do, of course, she just hadn't entirely expected it to work. Genesis watched the wall flicker as he made impact with it, weakening the wall and herself. Fortunately, it seemed that hitting the wall had taken a good chunk out of Inferno's energy as well since he wasn't expecting to hit it.
Genesis noticed him taking the moment to heal himself, and took that moment for herself to get back up on her feet, weapon at the ready. When she felt prepared she waved her hand and wiped away the door before it pulled any more energy from her. Genesis was captivated watching him heal himself, she hadn't seen that ability in real action either so it was interesting to her. "Again?" she called out to him. Feeling braver, she flew at him straight on with her sword, at the last second jumping to the side, hoping to strike at his abdomen.

Infernos gave a nod in reply to her question, then was pleasantly surprised to see Genesis go on the offensive. Standing defensively, he tried to time his parry right and not give her an opening. What he wasn't expecting was Genesis to dart to his side. Infernos shifted the handle of Shroud Breaker towards the blade, but being caught surprised didn't block the blade enough. It glanced off his weapon and cut him across his side. An all too familiar pain struck his nerves once more, and Infernos knew this be one of many times he would feel it in his life.
Infernos grit his teeth, both in a reaction to pain, and in anger at himself for getting struck again. He took a large step away from Genesis, for a counter attack was forming in his mind and he needed some space. Infernos swung his hammer in large spinning arcs, from side to side, speeding up with each swing. This was killing his arms to do, but he was cut, out of breath and worn out, he needed to try to end it soon. Shroud Breaker created large wooshing noises with each passing swing, and Infernos watched his partner closely, waiting until he knew she was focused on his weapon.
With that, Shroud Breaker suddenly shot into the air as Infernos tossed it skyward. He hoped it would distract Genesis, make her look up, and not notice him charging towards her, so he might tackle her down, and pin her to the ground.
