Uru preferred the beautiful, morning daylight to the dank, stuffy cave atmosphere any day. She tried to get outside at least once a day, which wasn't entirely strange as most members did so as well. Though she had known some who were rather reclusive, sticking to the caves and he caves alone. Her white tipped tail flicked as she moved up the stream, bright red eyes constantly moving and scanning. She knew she was very close to the borders now, and that it wouldn't be good to let her guard down.

She was growing more curious though, of males. What they were like, why it was pointless to live with them. She did not voice these thoughts, of course. But she had thought them. Almost constantly, of late. That and often in equal amounts she felt rather lonely, and quite jealous of the female pairings around the pride. She wanted to share in the happiness of having a mate, was that selfish of her?

Nkiru didn't know where she was and she was beginning to suspect that Kiongozi didn't know either. She wasn't particularly bothered by the matter; for all intents and purposes she'd been lost ever since she left her parent's territory. There were only two places that mattered: places she'd already been and everywhere else. Everywhere else was a source of constant surprises, which pleased her quite a bit. She'd already met several leopards, although she had yet to see a cheetah. And she was getting better at hunting, so although she was still too thin, her ribs no longer showed.

And for company, she had her darling Kio. "Is there anybody else about?" she called cheerfully.

"How should I know," grumbled Kiongozi from her perch on Nkiru's back. "And I'm not going to fly around and look, so don't ask."

She didn't think so... though it was getting more difficult as time went on, what with the lack of new members coming in and such. She wondered what would become of them? She'd even had vague thoughts of getting herself with child... but she was not sure she wanted to raise cubs on her own. Sure, the entire pride would help her but... it was not the same.

Her white tipped tail flicked as she swayed side to side, beginning to hum. She cut off when she heard voices nearby, and her eyes narrowed. "Hello?" She called out, as loudly as she dared. She didn't want to draw unnecessary attention to herself, nor did she want to miss the chance of happening upon some sort of rogue... it was exciting!

Even though she was the one who had called out, Nkiru was still surprised to hear someone answer. A more experienced lioness would have been cautious, but Nkiru had yet to have a bad encounter. Danger simply didn't exist in her rosy little world.

"Hello hello!" she called, running a few steps forward. There were so very many trees about, which one hid the stranger? "I'm Nkiru, it's awfully nice to meet you!"

Unlike Nkiru, Kiongozi had had her fair share of encounters, both good and bad. She saw no reason to alert the lioness to any danger - let her learn her own lessons! - but took off and settled in a nearby tree so she could watch the encounter from a safe distance.

It'd been quite a while since a stranger had made their way so close to the pride. At least, the voice was not a familiar one. Luckier still was that the scent and voice most certainly belonged to another female! If she'd any thoughts of the stranger being a male Uru would have probably sneaked away without a word and went to inform her sisters.

She weaved her way through the trees as the other continued to speak, finally coming into view. Her crimson eyes shifted over the lioness. She was... well she almost fit perfectly in with Uru and her siblings! Her brows rose and she offered a slow smile, tail flicking as she kept her distance.

"Nikiru, eh?" She nodded thoughtfully. This was a potential member, wasn't it? "My name is Urudja. Feel free to call me Uru though, I find the full name to be a bit of a mouthful." She chuckled, bowing her head politely.

"That's an awfully nice name," said Nkiru, beaming at the stranger. Not only was she the first lion she had met since leaving home, but she was all the proper colors. A much brighter red than any of her siblings, but after meeting a green leopard and a pink leopardess, any shade of red was a good one. And were those wing markings on her back? How pretty!

Remembering her manners in time, she bowed back to the stranger. "Are these your family lands?" she asked, curious. "I hope I'm not being a bother and going where I shouldn't."

Boring lionesses being boring and doing boring things. Kiongozi fluffed up her feathers, indignant at being ignored. Maybe she could swoop down and give the new lioness a good scare. No... no, that wouldn't do. Better to wait and see where the encounter lead; it would be best to stay hidden for now.

Uru grinned at the other and it was clear she very much agreed with Nikiru; an awfully nice name! "It's a strong name too, very suitable for myself I think." She had no qualms about talking about herself, mentioning to others that she was a pretty great lioness. She didn't think she did it often enough that it could be considered bragging or get on others' nerves. It didn't matter, the only thing that mattered was the fact that she was getting to speak to a new lioness. Some of her sisters were less than social, especially after the... events that had happened to the pride. So this was refreshing, just what she needed.

"Hmm." The noise was indifferent as she thought about the other's question. "I have family here, yes." She said slowly, grinning. Something about the grin was playful, mischievous. "No, you aren't a bother at all!" Uru hoped the other wasn't somewhere she wasn't supposed to be... would she get in trouble if other members found out she was letting rogues go where they pleased? "Are you from a pride?" She asked carefully, believing it better if a rogue stumbled upon them rather than an outside who's affinity was to another group.

"You look strong," said Nkiru, looking the other lionness up and down. She was bigger than anyone in her entire family - although to be fair, Nkiru's family was uncommonly small.

Ah! So she had indeed stumbled on some family land, although Uru remained friendly enough about it. Nkiru wondered if the other lioness would care very much if she stayed a little while as a guest; it felt so very nice to be talking to another lion and the only family she had ever spent time with was her own. It would be interesting to see if other families were like hers.

"What's a pride?" she asked, puzzled. "Is it like a family? I lived with my family for a good long while, but I'm grown now so I'm on my own. Well... me and Kio." She nodded up at the tree where Kiongozi was perched.

Kiongozi fluffed up all of her feathers to look bigger, but now that her cover was blown, she flew down and landed on Nkiru's back. The other lioness wasn't acting like that much of a threat, so she might as well recover her previous perch.

When the lioness heard the word 'strong' she instantly puffed up, just a little. She was actually quite flattered that this female thought so, it was nice to be noticed avery now and then! "Oh, thank you!" She purred out, about to elaborate on her finer points before Nikiru asked what a pride was.

Her mouth clicked shut and she looked puzzled for a moment. What was a pride? What was a pride?! What a funny thing to ask! Didn't everyone know what prides were? She blinked. "Er yeah... pretty much like a family..." She was trying to gather her thoughts, but then her attention was drawn to the tree and then to Nikiru's back. A bird! Uru grinned. "Hey feathers!" She chirped up, disregarding the poor bird's name completely. "I've never been this close to a bird before... Oh!" Right, the pride business. "I mean I guess it's just like a way bigger version of a family? And technically we're not all related obviously... anyway, want to come meet the leader here? Or I could show you around first or something... explain more about the pride." She grinned, hoping she was putting on her most seductive face. If she could interest the other in staying for a little while longer it would mean company! Pretty company, too.

Feathers? Feathers? Kiongozi glared at the lionness, too indignant to reply.

Nkiru didn't even notice. Feathers sounded like a fine nickname to her. "Like a bunch of families living together?" asked Nkiru, afire with curiosity. That sounded... nice, almost. She'd never been lonely as a cub, not with all of her siblings around, but it would have been nice to meet other cubs, non-sibling cubs. Not that that was possible with the meager game on her family's land... this place must be rich indeed, to let more than one family live in the same place.

"That sounds nice!" said Nkiru. "I'd love to see this place." She smiled at the other female, little suspecting that this was the place where she would make her home.
