Tinuviel wove her way through the trees, following an invisible path that she knew by heart. Today, she didn't trot or rush like she did on most days. She was thinking about something that had been poking her in the back of the mind for a while - Pach had to be wondering why she hadn't told her herd, or at least her mother, about him by now.
She decided that her reasons were only vaguely rational, but they made sense to her: her mother had shaped so much of her life so far that Tin didn't want her to effect this one piece of it that was solely her own. Faye might be offended that she had made a maybe-more-friend of a boy that had flat hooves, and she didn't want to disappoint him. She had other reasons for not telling other people, but she admitted it to herself - she was in denial. The truth would come out sooner or later, and people wouldn't think anything of it.
In any case, it was time to tell Pach. And besides, the somber topic she was thinking about had taken her dancing spirit for the day. Dancing with Pach was always a happy thing, and she didn't want to kill the mood of such a beautiful thing.
Reaching the bushes at the edge of their clearing, Tin worked through them, managing to get her tail tangled. Annoyed, she jerked it and stumbled into the clearing, looking around for her friend. "Pach?"

Pach was running a bit late. Despite best efforts, his parents were becoming increasingly suspicious about his disappearances. Beat had at least kept his word and his mouth shut on the subject, but it was becoming harder to slip away unless there was a legitimate reason, and one could only pretend to be going to look for wild oats so many times.
His mother had even gone so far as to suggest that if he was slipping off to meet another stallion he could just bring the boy home, and no one would think less of him. That particular conversation had left Pachelbel with his ears burning and his skin so hot he was sure they could have started a fire off of him. He'd managed to worm his way out of admitting or denying anything, but he was sure that this secrecy would only be tolerated for so much longer. His parents loved him, he knew that beyond a doubt, he just didn't want to push Tin. She meant so much to him, if only he could find the courage to tell her.
His ears perked up as he heard his name called, he put on a little extra speed and trotted into the clearing. "Am I late?" he asked as he stopped, and looked her over. No matter how many times he saw her, she took his breath away every time.

Tin smiled when Pach rushed into the clearing. He was so sweet to meet her here every time she could get away to dance - his parents had to be wondering. "Nope, I just got here myself," she replied cheerily, bouncing down into the center of the little meadow. The sight of him always made her happy again, for reasons she couldn't begin to understand. She nudged his shoulder with her muzzle in a fond greeting.
"I actually had something I wanted to talk to you about today," she said as she lifted her head up, trying to get a word in before he started to speak again. It wasn't really like her to make the first move, but somebody had to do it. "I kinda wanted to just sit and talk, y'know? It seems like one of those days."

Pach smiled and gently put the end of his nose against her head between her ears as she nuzzled him. "I'm glad I didn't keep you waiting." he said softly so not to deafen her. He pulled his head back as she lifted her head.
"Oh?" he said tilting his head, then remembered his own thoughts on the way here. He let out a breath and looked up at what little bit of the sky he could see through the trees. "It does doesn't it." he then motioned towards the little pool not far from here, "Lets grab a drink and we can settle down there." he said. He didn't know about her, but preparing to talk about heavy topics always made him thirsty, and he had a feeling this was going to be one of those talks.

Tin smiled some more as he stuck his muzzle in her hair. He was so sweet, she thought again. It made her happy, no matter the downs of the day.
She watched him look at the sky and followed his gaze - it was cloudy and grey; not grey enough to tell of rain, but grey enough to somewhat dampen a spirit. Nonetheless, Tin flicked her mane in the breeze as she looked through the brush toward the pool. "That sounds nice," she said in agreement. Water soothed her, and made the brown leaves around her shoulders liven to a pretty golden color. She'd always supposed it had something to do with the hydration - she didn't have dehydration attacks like her mother, but she certainly felt awful when she didn't drink enough.
Fixing her eyes on the trail to the little pond, though, her eyes narrowed. Had it gotten smaller since they'd first tramped through it? Looking at Pach and back to the path again, she flicked her tail at it. "Would you like to be first through the bushes, or should I lead?" she asked. The person that went first might get a chest full of stickers - and so might the person that caught the brunt of the backlash.

Pach looked up and around her studying the bushes. He really didn't have to consider. If there was anything in there it would be low of him to send her in first. "I'll go." he said moving carefully around her and then into the brush hesitantly pushing into it. And nothing happened. He sighed in audible relief as the feel of stickers didn't immediately dig into his skin.
"All clear~" he said brightly moving another step into the bush widening the path to let her through, then quickly moved through himself, but not quiet quickly enough as the branch snapped back and swatted him soundly on the rump.
Pach let out a strangled yelp that sent the bells on him chiming wildly, and darted forward a few steps before looking back to examine his damaged pride. "I'm not sure what was worse...that or my mother with a switch when I was a foal..." he said jokingly.

Tin raced through the small opening that Pach had made for her in the brush, getting leaves and things caught in her mane and tail. She'd made it about half way over to the pool when she heard the snap - and turned around to see Pach stumbling out of the bushes with a thin line across his rump. She laughed. "Aw, poor baby Pach. Remind me not to wrong your mother. Switches hurt." She knew not because her parents had ever used one on her, but because trees didn't like it when she ate their flowers... No matter how pretty they were. The flowers didn't taste great either, so it was a lose-lose.
Settling down by the pond, she flicked her tail up to brush the leaves off her back, and began to work her way through the end of her tail. Eventually spitting it out, she began her talk. "So, I wanted to talk to you about my family," she said, trailing off and shifting her gaze a bit. She didn't know where to start. She supposed she should start with what he wanted to know, so she could answer his questions as she went along. "Do you have anything you're curious about, before I start talking? There's a lot to tell."

"Well its been a long time since Beat or I acted up to deserve such a lesson." he said gently flicking his tail enough to check for damage and to see if the swat across his rump had dislodged the bell from his tail to much. Content the damage was minor he moved over to the pool and took a drink, one ear cocked towards Tin to listen to what she was talking about.
He finished drinking and then looked over at her. "Well..." he considered then shook his head. The only thing he could think of to ask would be to question why her family didn't know about him, but that wasn't fair, as his, with the exception of Beat, wasn't much more enlightened. "Nothing comes to mind except the same thing you'd ask me. Why haven't I told my family except for my brother about you." he said. "I mean besides wondering what they're like..." he trailed off. "We don't talk about our families much do we...? I mean really talk about them..." he sighed and then settled himself on the ground near her. "Feel free to ask me anything as well. Its only fair." he said with a nod.

Tin made a little 'mm' sound in acknowledgement as she watched Pach take a sip from the pool. She couldn't help staring at him a little - the way his hair fell in his eyes like that was totally adorable and endearing. Shaking herself mentally, she looked into the pool for a short moment before turning her gaze back to him.
His questions seemed to be the fairly obvious ones - but also the ones that could be the most difficult to answer. Thinking a bit before coming up with an answer for him, she decided to just get right into it. "Yeah... Well, hopefully I can explain some things," she began. "My family is, basically, a bunch of Cerynei; we live and lead in a herd of more Cerynei. We have a lot of strange customs and stuff that even I don't get sometimes. But, above everything else, we remain true to our Cerynei lineage." She nodded toward her hooves and twitched her ears. "Most of us have thick ears, small builds, and cloven hooves, like wild deer have. I don't have the tail, but my parents have little deer tails, too." She grinned a little at that. "Cute, short tails."
Pausing for a moment, Tin figured she should give him a moment to fully absorb the breed info. There was sooooooo much more she had to tell him - for example, that she suspected that her daddy wasn't her biological father, and who that biological father might be. She also had to explain that, if the herd (or at least a single, very important member of it) knew that she had a flat-hooved 'boyfriend', she could very well be in a lot of trouble. The very thought of bringing that up made her cheeks heat up, but it had to be done.Lady Argentum Draconis Sorry for the late reply. >.<

Pach listened and nodded slowly, he could understand the thing about customs. His own family had some strange ones, it wasn't everyday you came across dancing horses. The thing that gave him pause was the nearly exclusive make up of her herd. His own family belonged loosely to a herd, which was lead by an angeni and consisted of most of the rest of the Forte-Amachi family.
Her comment about tails made him sub-consciously flick his own and try to hide it, but the thing that hit him hardest was about staying true to lineage. "...Oh..." he managed to get out, and shifted slightly suddenly feeling awkward. "So...uh...they'd...really not like that...I see you huh?" he suddenly felt very hot and cold at the same time. He didn't want to lose Tin. She was probably the best thing that had ever happened to him. He'd never been able to connect to anyone else the way he did her. He swallowed hard and prepared to hear whatever else she had to say. "Please continue." he said. Mahogany Sunset Its okay. I know you're busy. :3

Tin smiled sadly as she saw Pach move his tail nervously. He'd understood where she was going with this talk before she'd actually gotten there, the way he usually understood things she tried to talk about. "Yeah..." she started, trying to figure out how to go about this easily. Tin wanted to see him still, and she didn't want him to think that she didn't want to see him because of her family.
"Um..." Now feeling awkward herself, she decided to just follow Pach's suggestion and continue. "Within the herd, my family is sort of the 'founding' family," she said, hoping that didn't sound too stern. "My mom and dad are the Mistress of Ceremonies and the Protector, respectively. So, naturally, I've been brought up to fit any number of positions once one of the older members of the herd are ready to retire. It's how I learned to dance." Happy with that small explanation of her parents' occupations, she moved onto the next prominent issue. "My mom's partner-colleague-person, the Master of Ceremonies, is a big believer in the Cerynei heritage. His name is Faye, and I kind of grew up with him being my second father. The thing about him is... I'm his spitting image. Not a speck of brown on my coat, right? My dad is solid brown. Faye is really dark, like me, with the green mane, and green swirls and green hooves and -" She stopped herself.
What the heck was she doing? Tin had meant to tell him all of this, but she'd meant to say it so she sounded at least a little sane. Swallowing hard, she broke eye contact and tried to avoid Pach's eyes for a moment. As much as it pained her to think about what she'd just said without thinking, it made her realize something. If she could speak to Pach without the filter that she used with everyone else, didn't that mean something? Blushing even harder than she had before, Tin glanced back at him, wondering if he might notice her sudden bashfulness.

Pach nodded listening. He'd always suspected that Tin was important within her herd, which was why she never stayed away for long. Being the daughter of the leaders was a little bit higher than he'd guessed. He wondered for half a second what they'd do to him if they found out he was seeing their daughter. It wasn't pleasant and he immediately crushed that line of thought. The next thing though gave him pause. He carefully considered and tried to ask his questions delicately.
"So you think he's your father. Have you ever told him? I mean obviously he must care about your mother since they had children together...So...I would assume he cares about you too. My mom kinda had an issue like that...her mother got all panicked when she and my grandfather had children...she actually ran off, but my mom tracked her down. She knew Grandma was her mother because of the same reasons...they look similar and all." he realized he was babbling and paused. "I didn't mean to babble." he moved just a bit closer and gave her a reassuring nudge. "I mean he has to love you right? You're so beautiful and talented, how could anyone not love you? I--" he cut himself off, now was not the time for that. "I think there has to be a logical reason why he can't tell you." he amended. "I'm sure your parents haven't meant to hurt you, Tin. There is probably just more too it than you know...which isn't fair...I would think, especially since you're not a little filly anymore, that you've got a right know about the reasons behind why he never said anything." he sighed and looked at the water. "I could never do that...I'd want to be there for my children...I can't imagine how it would feel to be there...but not there too, you know?" he said glancing over at her.

Tin felt like her cheeks were on fire, but she was beaming at Pach. She hadn't been sure what he'd say for a second, even though she should have known; he always knew what to say to make her feel better. "Yeah, I can't imagine that either... Having to pretend and let someone else do your parenting job for you? That would drive me nuts. But I think you're right... There's got to be more to it than I know. I mean, for one thing, my brother and I were the first foals born in the herd. And from what I've heard, my mom and dad didn't get together until a little while before I was born, so maybe my mom just wanted foals or something... And thanks for the compliments." She paused, trying to blush a bit more delicately beneath her dark coat. She was almost sure that the color was seeping through her spearmint-colored markings. This conversation had her flustered and feeling silly, but it was a necessary one. She returned his sweet little nudge with one of her own.
Beginning to feel weird about talking about herself for so long, Tin decided a subject change was in order. Besides, they could ponder their need to hide their relationship once they knew more about each other's families, couldn't they? It would be better to have at least a little bit of understanding of what Pach's family was really like before asking him why he hadn't told them about her yet - besides, she had yet to tell her own. It wouldn't be fair to assume anything, reasons or otherwise. "What's your family like?" she asked. "I mean, I know they dance, and I kind of know Beat, but it seems like you've got a pretty big family, too?"Lady Argentum Draconis Sorry for the delay, I was rereading the old RPs. :3

Pach nodded and felt himself bush in response to her touch. He didn't feel so bad seeing her own coming through faintly beneath her own dark coat. He cleared his throat, "It's possible." he said. "Least I know sometimes that sort of motivation isn't completely uncommon among mares when they feel they need to be mothers." he smiled at her. "And any time Tin. You know I always mean it when I say things like that."
He paused when she asked him about his family. Well that was an easy question to answer at least. Even if his family really were the odd ones out when it came to the rest of them. "I do." he said trying to put what he knew of his own family in order. "On my mother's side there's my grandparents, who are the head of our family, but not the head of the herd they live in. Numerous aunts and uncles of whom I have never met, and probably more cousins than I can shake a stick at. On my father's side there is my grandmother, an aunt I have seen once or twice, but never actually spoken too, and her sibling and my own father's brother I've never met either. For being such a large family, my parents are sort of isolated. It doesn't seem to bother them though. They're happy knowing the gist of what's going on in their own families, but are more interested in just being themselves. It's not uncommon for the two of them to take off for a week or so at a time and just set off in a direction and eventually make their way home. "From what I understand it does make my mother the odd one of her family, but she says she'd feel confined actually having to be around that many relations all the time, so she makes excuses to her family and stays with my father, whom she is completely devoted too. I do know however that we live so close to the forest because Father didn't want to be too far from Grandmother." He considered all he'd said and figured that that tied a nice neat little bow on it. It was sort of sad he didn't know more about his own extended family, but that was the way it was, and unless he wanted to take a trip northward to their herd lands, or actually track down his grandmother who was hard to find when she didn't want to be found.

Tin laughed a little at Pach's comment about having a lot of cousins, but kept quiet after that, too busy listening to really think of a reaction to his words. Of course, she was also trying not to stare at his lovely face. His eyes were almost mesmerizing as he spoke of his family - Tin thought that she wouldn't have minded being a bit isolated within her own herd. Her family, being at the top of the food chain, always knew what was going on, or at least, her parents did. It would be nice to have some privacy once in a while - that way, not everyone would know if she went missing for a half an hour here or there.
As she pondered this, she realized rather suddenly that Pach had stopped talking. Rewinding the conversation in her head, Tin smiled: "Its really cute that your parents can just take off like that. If I did that with someone, my parents would freak out and search hill and valley until they found me," she said, remembering how her parents had done that exact thing numerous times when she was growing up. If it hadn't been for those skinwalkers, she and Enaran might've had a normal childhood... "But they have their reasons," she added.
Knowing that it was time to get down to the more pressing business at hand, Tin cleared her throat. This was where things could get a bit sticky. "So, the major reason that I wanted to talk instead of dance today is to tell you why I haven't told my family or my herd about you," she started, taking a deep breath. "I think it's mostly because, right now, they control my life. My mom dictates what I learn, the position I get to take when I get older, and when I get to have time to myself. So when I get to have this time with you, to be myself and to actually dance with a wonderful partner who only wants me to be myself, it's the best thing in the world. And I don't want to have to give it up just because you're a boy and my family is way too overprotective and..." Tin stopped; she was beginning to hear the emotion in her voice and feel a sting in the corners of her eyes. She wasn't going to cry in front of Pach - she didn't want him to pity her, for the spirit's sake! All she could do was hide her face and hope he would understand, embarrassed as she was. Scraping a hoof anxiously, she chanced a glance at the boy sitting next to her.
