With a bit of effort, Eva had forced herself down to the training grounds that afternoon after a bit of food. Her injuries were healing--enough that it didn't bring tears to her eyes whenever she put weight on her leg--so she figured it was high time to get back to work. Her joints and her muscles felt weak from lack of use over the last past days, but hopefully that wouldn't last too long.

Don't push yourself, Chara warned, a tiny hint of concern in her usually-neutral voice, You don't want to undo all that healing, after all.

"I'll be careful!" Eva assured her aloud, grinning as she halted to a stop in front of the training dummies. She began to do her usual stretches, wincing at the dull aches of pain that ran through her leg whenever she tried to move it. Admittedly, she was a little concerned about what would happen if she strained herself too much, but...well, she couldn't just sit around all day and wait for her leg to magically heal, right? She had to be in tip top shape--or at least, decent shape--in case anything happened.

Working out on a regular basis was still something Deryk needed to work on. His stamina and whatnot just wasn't quite there. Then again prior to all of this he spent most of his time in front of a computer, so he didn't really get that much exercise before anyway. Slowly and surely though, he was building up his strength.

If he was going to have a hidden blade and kinda dress the part, he figured he might as well try and get his physicality similar to that of what Ezio and Altair could do.

Maybe one day he'd try jumping into hay stack. If he could find one.

Hm.

Finishing a jog, he let out a breath, feeling pretty winded right now.

"Man. Running sucks," he whined, not noticing another trainee in the area until after he said that, "Oh. Uh. Hi there."

Well, there was a vaguely familiar voice that belonged to a vaguely familiar face!

...

Eva knew this guy--she was sure of it--but it was strange. Though she could clearly recall seeing him many times during the missions, and vaguely remembering having (possibly) exchanged some brief words with him once or twice...they really hadn't spoken to one another before, had they? And his name was...uh...um...

Ah, blast it. That was fine--it might have been kind of embarrassing, but it didn't hurt to ask, right? A part of her hoped that he didn't know her name either.

"Hey there! How are you today!" She lifted a hand in greeting, offering Deryk a friendly grin before propping a hand up on her hip. "Out to do some training?"

Deryk took a moment to look over the other trainee. He had seen her around and she was one of the others within his own division. Though, he never really spoke to her. Hm. He may need to try and remedy that a bit. It was probably good to know the others within his division at least a little. Especially since their division was all about intel and stuff like that.

"Not bad! Yourself? And yeah. Gotta get in shape. Not easy though. Never worked out much before with old life. Not used to it," he frowned.

With a chuckle, the young woman nodded her head in agreement. "Tell me about it. I spent more time pooling over textbooks than fighting. That's why I'm trying to get in as much practice as possible, but lately..." Smiling wryly, she gestured towards her leg. She was probably still walking a little strangely, but at least things were getting better, right?

And now for the awkward part. Though Eva had just been about to invite him to train with her...well, there was one major hurdle that she had to get over first. Looking a little sheepish, she scratched the back of her head. "I, ah...sorry. I've seen you around a lot, and I know we've been on the same missions and might have talked a little...but what's your name again?"

Welp, that was a little embarrassing to admit.

"Hm? Oh! Bond. Deryk Bond," he grinned before pausing, "Uh.. and yourself?"

Deryk wasn't really sure if he had her name. Best be safe than sorry since she had initiated with the name question.

"And uh. Your leg ok? Didn't hurt it too bad did you?" he asked while looking towards the leg she motioned to.

"Haha, that's an awesome last name! Not related to the Bond, are you?" Her voice was teasing, and she relaxed a little when Deryk reflected the question back to her. Well, it made her feel a little better that he didn't seem confident about her name either. With one hand propped up on her hip, she stretched out the other for the man to shake.

"I'm Eva Valente, and I go as either Eva or Evie. Take your pick!" Most people, she noticed, chose the former--maybe the latter seemed too personal? She wasn't sure, but honestly, she didn't mind either way.

At the mention of her leg, she glanced down quickly, her expression sheepish as she looked back up at the death trainee. "Haha, yeah, it's fine! Not a big deal." A pause, and then, "Say, about about we train together? Like, a spar, maybe?"

"It's possible," Deryk grinned in return, "Eva. Got it. Pleasure to be properly introduced to one another, yes?"

There was a pause as she suggested that they do some training together. Oh! A spar! Those were actually fairly fun he found. Getting hurt part wasn't too pleasant, but he found that sparring others usually made for a decent bonding experience between himself and a few other trainees.

There were exceptions of course.

"A spar? Sure! Sounds like a great idea. All warmed up already too. Let's get started then?" he said as he called out Tooley to form around his left arm. The blade was still hidden away but it wouldn't be for long.

"At last," Eva agreed, laughing, "Can't believe we didn't talk sooner. I mean, I always saw you around, I just didn't..." She trailed off with a shrug. She wasn't entirely sure why they hadn't spoken sooner, but ah well. That was amended now.

Beaming when he agreed, she stepped back to summon Chara, grasping the weapon with both hands. "Sounds good to me! Get ready!"

Eva...

I'll be fine, I'll be fine! I may be injured, but... Buuuut she would deal with issues as they came. It was frustrating having to sit around all day, so she was pleased to finally have a spar against someone since the, er, incident at the Haunted House.

"Oh, sweet weapon! Now check out mine!" Deryk taunted before preparing himself. After asking Tooley if she was all set, he bolted right for Eva. As he drew near, he swung his left hand for her body. In midswing, the blade popped out, and he hoped to give her a bit of a surprise.

Deryk got the desired effect--Eva had not been expecting the hidden blade at all, and when she did notice it, she wasn't able to act fast enough to get away. The blade cut at her FEAR shield, but she managed to draw back before too much damage was done, accidentally nicking him with her weapon in the process.

"...Geez, that surprised me!"

Hopping back, Deryk grinned as he apparently got the jump on Eva after all. It was too bad that really only worked the first time around.

"Pretty cool huh?" he asked while showing off the blade for the moment.

The death trainee shifted around for the moment before charging back at his opponent. Jumping up, he tried to stab down towards her shoulder area with the blade.

Once again, Eva had to bless the fact that she had a shield. The blade slicing at her shoulder hurt enough as it was, but to imagine the whole thing actually being plunged into her shoulder? Ugh, that would just be plain nightmare fuel.

"That's pretty impressive," She agreed, grinning, "You seem like the type of person who I can trust to watch my back in a battle." Or at least, someone would could do some pretty decent damage. Of course, Eva wasn't just going to stand around and let him attack her--she had to retaliate.

Thankful that she didn't have to move so much because of her weapon's long reach, Eva suddenly spun her staff, bringing the blade down as she aimed for Deryk's arm.

At the compliment, Deryk grinned and seemed to perk up.

"Really? Ow!"

Unfortunately, it had also distracted him apparently, as the blade hit him in the arm pretty well. He at least didn't have to worry too much about that taking his limb off, but that still hurt! Incidentally, it also prevented him from attacking back right away as he was busy trying to shake off the pain in his left arm.

"...Whoops, sorry. You okay?"

Yes, they were in the middle of a spar. Yes, Eva had just gotten distracted with asking her sparring partner--who, at worst, would come out of that attack just now with a tiny bruise--if he was okay. In fact, the girl foolishly lowered her weapon slightly as she eyed him uncertainly.

"But...yes. I mean," The grin was back on her face, "I'm really glad that we're all on the same side, you know? Some of the other trainees I've fought...man, I'd hate to go up against them for real."
