Oh glorious, beautiful pixelated vending machine, how you were a thing of beauty and 3D effects. Justin was getting a better hang of this virtual reality thing, in fact, if one thought about it, it was all rather creepy. Maybe his body was still in a pod like in the Matrix and he simply though he had escaped but never did -
- though essentially he had spoiler-ed himself by knowing this was all a virtual reality. Oh well. Less thinking, more vending machine.
The trainee reached into his pocket, pulling out well, nothing. It was a new coat tabard after all. Goddamnit, he really really really really wanted that chocolate bar. It called to him, it was a desire a burning need. Justin stared at it longingly one more time: it was time for operation Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures.
Turning to the next person down the hallway, the trainee gave them his biggest saddest eyes - most likely he would have been cuter if he was not you know, nineteen - and held his hands out. "Can I have some gold pleaaaaaaaaase?" It kind of looked like he was ready to gank them, actually.

They were out of everything she had a remote interest in- no decent candy, no juice, no apple pie with vanilla ice-cream, though granted, you couldn't find that in vending machines anyway. Reine had paced at least five rounds around the vending machines but nope, clearly she had offended the gods somehow by kicking a machine the last time.
To be fair it had eaten her coins, and when you were just a hunter trainee, every penny counted. Scowling, she debated kicking the machine again just for the sake of it, they were clearly spiting her, but she wasn't the kind that held grudges, even if they were, she was better than a stupid vending machine.
Just as she was about to turn around and go back to her room, there were hands in front of her, and a boy who kind of reminded her of her cat back home when he was begging for treats, it was that don't you love me anymore how could you do this to me look, with the same brown eyes, and she couldn't help it, her heart melted.
"Uhh.. gold?" She looked over the vending machines and spotted it, some kind of gold blend coffee, and gave him an odd look as she slotted her coins in and pressed the button. Couldn't he have asked normally, or was this some code amongst coffee lovers?
"Here you go," Reine said, tossing him the can. "Enjoy~"

FREE ENERGY DRINK. All other thoughts that had involved begging and possible a small amount of chocolates was hereby abandoned by the more prevalent Most Important thought. He had the holy grail of all grails: an energy drink. Coffee, of course, no matter what shape or form being the source of his nourishment, the reason he could raid for sixteen hours - thirty-two hours once - nonstop.
"Sweet thanks!" Dropping the begging look, he quickly popped open the can and chugged, and chugged, and chugged. The whole drink was consumed in less than five seconds, not that anyone was counting. At least he had the decency to cover his mouth via belching.
The trainee wiped whatever coffee remains on his mouth with the back of his white sleeve and beamed, eyes practically sparkling. "Hey hey hey, you wanna be friends?"
He was of course, referring to buddy list friends.

Reine looked on, amused, as he finished the drink in what seemed like one huge gulp, she hadn't thought it physically possible, but hey, at least one of them was enjoying the vending machines. She had no previous memory of seeing this guy before- not odd, considering the large compound and the number of people around, but he wore the same trainee coat as her...
Just with, uh, more.. stains. Reine's old lab coat had had a million patches on it, but asides from missions where you couldn't avoid getting dirty, like that awful one in the Sahara, she had tried her best to keep her hunter jacket the pretty white it was.
"Sure," she said, tilting her head a little, and laughing. Maybe he was high on caffeine, either way he was pretty cute. Like Otto without the grumpy. "Uhhh, what's your number?" Reine pulled her cellphone out of her pocket, handing it to him so he could fill his details in.
"I'm Reine, by the way."

"Hang on," Justin fiddled for his cell phone - the new one. And fiddled and- "Oh geez, I think I lost it somewhere. You see, I was on the way here, and there was this rare silver spawn that happened on the way to, and I was like 'oh my god a rare silver spawn', and then I took out my tier 13 sword and attacked it, and... yeah that didn't really happen."
It was then finally that the trainee had stopped making strange hand motion effects along with his story and finally stopped to look at Reine. And look. One raised eyebrow. "So you like, a chick or a dude?"

Reine was now wondering if perhaps he wasn't a new trainee, just an escapee from one of wards in the infirmary, possibly the one marked 'psychological issues', because she couldn't comprehend a word he was saying, rare silver spawn, tier 13 sword.. well, she could guess what tier 13 sword was, but even if she chalked it down to weird accent, rare silver spoon didn't make any sense...
So basically he lost his phone, and that was all she got out of his rambling.
"I don't mind helping you find it---"
Deep breath. Had he really just asked that.
Her stare was as flat as her chest, her expression completely unamused.
"A.." she paused, not sure why she was even justifying that question with an answer instead of just a slap to the face. "Chick."
"And what about you."

Huh, really? Justin leaned in close, very very very close into Reine's personal space and scrutinized carefully. Man, even for a virtual reality character, this character was really flat. He thought girls were sensitive about these things normally - maybe she was under compensating?
"Your avatar's as flat as a board man, you should wear some armour that you know, brings out your form." He moved his hands around in curved motions as if to emphasize a point. "Not that I'm judging or anything, girl gamers are cool and all", and then a very low mutter under his breath, "when they're actually girls."
Totally ignoring Reine's flat look, he placed both arms behind his head casually. "So, you wanna party or sommat, I was thinking we could go kill some mobs for gold or at least to warm up. Too much freaking socializing in here man."

"They're there okay," Reine almost-sniffled, crossing her hands over her chest when he leaned in to stare. What was it with guys and picking on her recently, first Dakota and then this still nameless guy. She'd never had much of an issue with the way she looked, and neither had anyone else she knew, but maybe, just maybe she was beginning to wish she was a bit more gifted in a particular department.
At 'as flat as a board' she cringed visibly, and backed away a few steps, there was no need to rub it in, okay, he'd made his point clear enough when he had to ask for her gender. Part of her envied Eva, how did she make being a girl seem so effortless, Reine was sure her friend never had anyone asking if she was a guy. For that matter, she doubted anyone had ever questioned Petra either.
With a sort of defeated look on her face Reine looked back up at Justin, but within seconds it was replaced by a look of utter confusion, what did he mean.. girl gamers.. was he still questioning her gender, at least he wasn't flipping her skirt to check, unlike stupid Dakota.
"Party?!" He was jumping from one topic to another, but Reine was almost relieved that he'd left the whole gender thing behind.
"Kill... mobs.. sure, yeah. Wait, didn't you leave your phone behind somewhere?" Her mind was working on overdrive, trying to figure out what the kid meant, until she finally gave up and applied a filter over what he was saying: 'kill ____, to warm up." Did he mean a training course.. because that kind of fit the description of the sun hunter course, as far as she knew.

Justin had, once again, entirely missed out on the other trainee's facial expression cues. In fact, it wasn't a matter of missing out, but rather that he was entirely oblivious to a certain emotional range called 'making others feel uncomfortable'.
"Alright! Lemme just party us up and -" a pause, and then a sheepish sort grin. "Oh yeah, I left my UI in my room didn't I? Hang on, I'll get it in a jiffy and-"
Halfway between taking two steps to retrieve said item, also known as his cell phone, Justin stopped, turning back around to Reine very slowly. "I um, forgot which room is my room."
Because clearly, Reine would know the answer to that one.

"You left your new eye.. what--" Nevermind. She just wasn't going to get it anytime soon, so Reine sighed. How could she make the best out of this situation, when she clearly needed some kind of translator even though she was sure he was actually speaking english... just.. some odd kind of dialect?
She watched as he walked ahead, then turned back again, staring at her with those puppy eyes again.. How could he not know which room was his own, seriously, unless she had been right from the start and there was just something mentally wrong with this guy.. or, well, he could be a really lost, really disoriented newbie.
Reine was about to offer walking back to the dorms with him... except well, all the doors looked the same, really. She didn't expect him to remember his cellphone number if he couldn't even remember his room number, for that matter, did he remember his own name? She eyed him a little suspiciously, this was like returning a lost kitten to its owner..
And then suddenly she wondered if she could just keep him, maybe he could sleep on the floor with some of her plushies? But okay, that wasn't practical.
"Uhh... well.. any landmarks you remember..?"

"Landmarks... landmarks." The trainee repeated the word, clearly deep in thought. Another Thought suddenly occurred. "Oh yes, landmarks! I passed by the NPC dispensal machine on the way here, I think that's a pretty obvious landmark." He put his hands to his waist and smiled as if really proud of himself. Surely by 'dispensal machine' Justin didn't mean the vending machines. "In fact, at the dispensal machine is where I met you."
No, nevermind, he did.
"Well, its not like I need to hearth back or anything, I can totally run a heroic without a custom UI, just lead me to the nearest dungeon portal and we can form a party." And suddenly, a very belated thought occurred to him as Reine's expression most likely shifted from dumbfounded to 'is this guy for real?'. "I'm Justin by the way, but you can call me 'Justin the Invincible'.
Yeah, he was for real. Sorry Reine.

Yes, landmarks... Reine looked at Justin hopefully, she could feel it, they were so close to some kind of breakthrough...
.. Dispensal machines. "We call them vending machines," she piped up, trying to be helpful, because if she could fix him somehow, she was going to. One word at a time. Either way they were getting nowhere with the information he was giving her, how were you supposed to backtrack when you couldn't even remember which way you had walked?
Just when she thought she'd made some progress with the vending machines, he completely lost her again. 'Hearth back' probably meant 'go back', but past that.. if Justin looked at Reine, he would probably see question marks floating around her head.
And when she thought it couldn't get weirder, her jaw literally dropped at 'Justin the Invincible'. Reine shook her head in disbelief, and backed away a few more steps, this guy was clearly more delusional than she'd expected, did he think he was some kind of superhero...?
There were a few awkward minutes of silence and a look on Reine's face that was anything but 'awestruck', and then she shook her head, trying to snap out of it. It was entirely possible this was really just a surreal dream experience.
"Okaaaay, Justin.." she paused, "the Invincible," okay, she could play along, deep breath.. "Let's go.. run... a heroic..?"
She led him towards the training courses, there were portals there, right? And even of not, she needed the stress relief (and training), so he could deal with it.

Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Yeah, he was just that awesome. Yeah, he knew. Clearly his party member was in awe of his amazing gear, it happened time to time, and sometimes it was awkward but he was a heroic paladin: Justin would never take advantage of girls no matter how small their chest size.
And because Justin was a heroic paladin, he let his party member take charge, allowing her to lead him to one of the dungeons, trying to give her the occasional encouraging nod. Two mans were difficult and she obviously needed mental and emotional support.
When they finally arrived on the Deus training fields, what Justin saw of the Sun Hunter Shadow run course was simply, well-
- "Fear not oh noble ally, I shall vanquish all these foes!" It took a little longer for Tiferet to realize oh for Jack's sake, Justin had was running in blind again, better do something, as she essentially summoned herself.
That was all Justin needed before he charged in blindly, arms and limbs waving around madly and - well, it was pretty obvious he had never had any sort of combat or martial arts training whatsoever in his life. The fact that he actually hit some of the shadowlings was rather appalling, the fact that he was still running forwards even more so. He was surprisingly cheerful as they walked towards the training fields, even encouraging, maybe he wasn't all bad after all. She was even getting a little excited about running a training course again, considering she'd failed the last two, but third time was the charm.. right?
They reached the portal and entered it. So this was the sun training course- she'd heard about it before, something about shadowlings. Reine was pretty sure she knew what to expect, but she hadn't counted on Justin being there then...
He ran ahead of her, yelling something about noble allies, but he was running right into a.. what did you even call them, a bunch of shadowlings, flailing madly, and without thinking, Reine ran after him, trying to reach for his arm to pull him back- except another swarm of shadowlings attacked her, biting at her and dragging her away.
