Location: MalvrenOnce the Weyrs were scoured and what information could be gleaned was obtained, the search expanded further still. If the Weyrs were one option, so too were the Abandoned Rooms that every Weyr possesses. Located in forgotten hallways, along dusty corridors, these places are tucked out of sight and out of mind. Brackets for lanterns line the walls but have not been used many years, old and dead glows caged by rusting covers. It’s quiet and run down with broken water ways or chipped cisterns – ancient mouldering book and scroll cases line the room in which your group discover. Most others in the area are empty, no footprints, no signs of use for years. Inside the room, tiny and claustrophobic as it is, is a single occupant – a Candidate by her robes, a massive tome set on the table before her, its pages smudged and brittle with age. Jumping at the sudden opening of the door, the young woman’s gasp and the screech of chair on stone was deafening for the brief second of sound that fell into silence. She stared at the gathered group a moment, blinking as she recovered her senses and shook her head, “I thought I was the only one who knew of this spot… Did you need something?” One eyebrow lifted high, her tone midly sarcastic. Investigation Week 4 Only the NPC described in this post may be interviewed. This is an ORP that will be lead by Staff - staff will be posting responses based on the posts received once or twice a day, each character can post as they want but the NPC response will not wait for all to post before answering. Feel free to ask whatever questions that your character would ask! Remember that this is an investigation about the Mystery Man who assassinated two ranking Riders and tried to kill a third. A Hint: Look for relations between rumors and things said but remember not everyone knows the truth! Think about the answers you receive!

"Yes less snark." C'rci replied in her own mildly amused drawl a grin dancing on her face, but the almost roguish picture was rather ruined when Bolth stuck his head between her legs to peer into the darkened room with whirling eyes.
Mine she was simply asking. I'm sure she has a very good reason to be here? Why don't you ask about the bad man yes? The ever cheerful and optimistic blue chimed at his rider despite being amused at her more upbeat tone. Nearly toppling her over as he trotted through her legs and into the room happily only to turn and give a concerned chirp at C'rci.
C'rci luckily had grown rather used to Bolth's occasional forgetfulness about his size. She had gotten rather used to having her weyrling around all the time despite having begun of late to push Bolth into being a bit more independent. At least Fasha was helping a little bit there, at least when the ill-tempered crimson wasn't snarling at things from C'rci's hair that his.
Sorry Mine. Bolth replied his eyes whirling with worry for his slightly displaced rider as the girl waved it off.
Don't apologize. I'm fine. Sides you didn't mean anything by it. She added before turning back to the girl with a small sigh.
"What I meant to say is have you seen any signs of recent activity in these halls? Noticed anything misplaced or offset since it seems you come here frequently?" C'rci asked taking a more gentle tone this time at her dragons urging. Bolth himself making it a point to trot up to the candidate and give a friendly chirp at her.
"Oh yes. I'm C'rci of blue Bolth, the lovely little creature in front of you who's trying to sniff your book." C'rci replied grinning at the little blue who had lifted to his hind legs to nudge the tome on the table curiously.
Oh so that's a book. Is it edible Mine?
Not to dragons no. C'rci quickly added before Bolth decided to try a page. At least she reasoned he was getting a little more outgoing, at least curiosity wise. Why she'd even gotten him to stay in the Weyr the other day with Fasha while she ran out to replace glows for her chores. Though she had still come back to find a dragon tail sticking out from under the covers of her bed. C'rci was going to have to see about moving him to his wallow. He was just getting a bit too big now for such things and she didn't want the other dragons to start picking on him over it.
Oh. Can we get some food soon Mine? Bolth asked looking rather disappointingly at the book before trotting back up to C'rci and bumping his head affectionately against her legs, peering up at her pleadingly. Not that he really had too.
Of course! C'rci replied almost in a panic at the idea of her dragon being hungry! her shock rousing Fasha who rose tossing red haired strands of C'rci's long hair as she stretched her wings yawning to stare at Bolth with whirling yellow eyes? The blue one was peckish too? Good so was she. Would they be eating soon? She asked chirruping into C'rci's ear and nibbling on it playfully.
"All right the both of you stop looking at me like that. We'll get food the moment we're done here unless you're both extremely hungry. Any objections?" C'rci finally blurted out loud nudging her crimson slightly and coaxing her to let go of her ear, it tickled.
None here Mine. I can wait. Bolth added setting himself at his riders feet to watch her work. Fasha growing tired of her owner's poking took flight to drape herself over the blue's head knobs and preen.
"Now. Sorry about that. Back to what I was asking. Have you seen anything? Noticed anything off? Anything at all?" The young blue rider asked.

Orlina smiled at the Candidate from behind C'rci. Her friend had them off to a good start, so Orlina just moved over to distract Bolth, reaching out to scratch one of his eye ridges. They would all go find lunch after this; Orlina could retrieve lunch for herself and C'rci while C'rci took Bolth and Fasha off for food. It didn't look like anyone else was down here, anyway, which meant that their searching was over for today at least once they had spoken to this Candidate.
"We're some of the people investigating the weyr," Orlina explained quietly to the girl. She recognized her from the Barracks, though she didn't remember ever having the chance to interact with her before. "Yours looks like the only room in use on this hallway, so we stopped in."
She looked sadly at the mouldering scroll cases. Such a waste. Maybe she could ask the Candidate Master to make cleaning this room and rescuing the scrolls one of her chores. Then again, it looked like the girl enjoyed her secret reading room. Perhaps she wouldn't appreciate that.

The young candidate’s expression withered at the mention of snark. She might have softened at the sight of the lovely blue coming through the door, but she tensed slightly as the young dragon approached the book. He wasn’t going to try and eat it, was he?
“I don’t recall seeing anything in particular, but I rather doubt there’d be anything to see.” She crossed her arms as she eyed the tiny crimson in the girl’s hair. Lucky, as if having a dragon wasn’t enough. “I don’t buy that there’s a traitor involved. I mean, why throw the weyrs into chaos? This was done professionally and the only professional criminals I know are the holdless.”
Her eyes moved to focus narrowly on Orlina. "What about you two? Have you seen anything?"

Kleos frowned thoughtfully, somebody else suspecting the Holdless. It was very easy to pin the blame on them but there were some things that didn't add up to her. "Kleos of Moraith," she introduced herself with her usual slight bow, "neither my dragon nor I have seen anything peculiar either... how do you think the Holdless could have managed to coordinate three attacks dotted across the world? I agree that as base criminals it seems likely they could wish to attack the Weyrs, but I cannot imagine they did it without help." The help of a rider. Sickening. Who would willingly help the Holdless to carry out such heinous crimes?

Bolth now completely disinterested in the clearly non-edible book instead settled for sitting by his rider or after a short time getting up and prowling the room. Fasha the crimson obviously displeased by her current perch moving instead fluttered back to C'rci and perched herself on the woman's head scolding Bolth with a few well placed chitters.
"We're looking for any possible clues. Have you noticed any disturbed dust, any odd foot prints. Any information you might have, any at all could serve to save lives." C'rci continued nodding in agreement with Kleos over their progress so far with a frown. Bolth having grown bored of scanning the room sat down next to the candidate and peered up at her with whirling green and blue eyes.
You look to be very clever having read all these books. Surely someone as smart as you must know something that might help us in our search? Bolth asked his thoughts a warm brush as he spoke to the candidate complimenting her happily.
Lifting a hand C'rci eventually managed to calm the crimson down and coax her onto her hand though it took a moment to dislodge the creature from her red tresses. Settling her in after a bit of mental nudging from Bolth C'rci extended her hand and firelizard. "Her name is Fasha. Would you like to pet her? Her and Bolth both love to have their eyeridges scratched though mind her fussing." C'rci offered with a small pleasant smile trying to encourage the girl to open up to them.

The young candidate nodded to Kleos in greeting. “I’m just a candidate, I should hardly know how it was done better than a well-learned rider,” she answered, and though her tone and expression were polite enough her answer seemed to turn the question on end. “There may have been a rider involved, I suppose, but why would a rider mastermind something to hurt a weyr like this? I would say sense lies with following the money. The weyrs are profitable enough in terms of trade that someone that knew how to disturb them could profit from the chaos. Benden’s been nothing but stingy about mystweed for instance, and I can only guess what it’s done to the market of that and their wines.”
She cocked her head as the crimson firelizard winged back to her humanoid perch. It was better than looking at the blue dragon, which seemed strangely close with his staring. She liked dragons, of course, but the hatching had no sense of propriety–. Her musing were interrupted by the dragonet’s speech, and she looked down, startled soft by the sweetly-voiced query. “Um, no, I haven’t seen any particular sign of anything,” she answered the dragon and his rider in a slightly more relaxed tone. “With all those witless children running amuck calling every flitt dropping a clue, I’ve been leery of making conclusions. Everything I’ve said so far is just private conjecture as well. If I had noticed anything I would have had the sense to report it by now of course.” She shook her head wordlessly at the offer to pet the crimson, though she pushed a thing smile to show she appreciated the gesture. She had yet to meet anything of a crimson hue that didn’t come with a sharp attitude.

Orlina was a bit surprised to be questioned by the girl in return, but was glad when the conversation just moved alone. Well, of course she wasn't involved! She was one of the investigators, wasn't she? Well, if there was someone in the weyrs, that would be the best place to be... No. There was no traitor or were no traitors. She agreed wholeheartedly with the girl's assessment, not Kleos's: who would betray their own weyr?
She hadn't believed Anna when she mentioned the Holdless, but it seemed like the cook wasn't the only one to voice that opinion. "I'm sorry. I've forgotten your name. I'm Orlina, by the way, one of your fellow Candidates. So you think the killer is one of the Holdless? If they didn't have a rider help, who would have? Or do you think it was just the killer working alone?" Just because she didn't believe there was a traitor didn't mean she could ignore the possibility if they wanted to get to the truth.

"A dragon was seen flying away from the scene... I think we must accept that they were involved," Kleos said quietly, not enjoying what she had to say at all. "Why one would help the Holdless I cannot comprehend... but then I cannot comprehend why they would do it at all, so one more mystery is of little consequence I suppose." Who, why, and how? Those were the questions they needed to answer, but she felt that she was little use in this investigation really; she simply couldn't wrap her mind around underhanded dirty deeds such as these.

Bolth seemed to deflate at this having really hoped to find something during his search and went back to slinking around the room. Luckily he was a dragon of high spirits and it wasn't long before he was poking his nose in this or that prancing about.
"Well that's good. I know how you feel about the little ones getting about and underfeet in their exuberance to help." C'rci replied with a low thoughtfull humm her gaze and approving one of the girl. She'd make a fine rider someday C'rci was sure of it.
Retracting her hand with Fasha perched on it she let the grumpy crimson once more slink up her arm and drape herself over one shoulder lazily watching Bolth trot about. Only speaking up ever so often to scold him with a chitter.
Sighing C'rci shook her head. "I just wish we had more leads then just suspicions about the Holdless."

Orlina glanced at Kleos with a sad expression on her face. Of course everyone had heard of the dragon seen saving the murderer, but none of the dragons at Malvren had made contact or been able to recognize it in the brief moment. Couldn't it have been a mistake? Something else?
What else would look like a dragon? she reminded herself. Nothing really did. Nothing on Pern was so big, or could fly.
But it couldn't have been anyone from one of the attacked weyrs, right? They wouldn't hurt their own people. No one would do that. Maybe one of the other Northern Weyrs, someone they didn't often hear from. Telgar or High Reaches or somewhere that was unhappy with the constant tension between the two mutation Weyrs and Benden.
"Then maybe it was someone from a weyr, but it couldn't have been ours or any of the other attacked ones. Maybe it was some rider who had ties to the killer or the Holdless or someone before they became a rider. Maybe they didn't have a choice, or it was a matter of coercion or... something..." Orlina's desperate explanations trailed off. Even to her, that sounded far-fetched.

They all really needed to meet as a group and discuss what they had heard, seen, and what they suspected. Perhaps they could piece it together from that. She certainly hoped they could because if not... if not, what was to stop the group that had done this striking again elsewhere? Yes, it had to be a group. She could not believe that one person had organized this alone.
"I wish we had to," Kleos said with a nod to C'rci, "we must all see what pieces we have and attempt to put them together." Turning then to Orlina, the scarred rider pursed her lips. "I suppose it is possible that if the Holdless did plan this a rider was attached to a certain group of them... but it seems a great ambition for a group of Holdless ones to attack three Weyrs. Why should they care what goes on beyond their immediate territory? They have no loyalty to other outcast groups of criminals, why expend the effort?" Much as she hated the wretches she had to admit that this was a flaw in suspecting them.

Wykla stood near the back. Her arms crossed over her chest and her expression dark. She didn't much care for this candidate. Let the others ask the questions. What could she really know shut up back here in this tiny, dark room?

She shook her head slightly. “You didn’t forget. I never said. My name is Heran.” The young Candidate shrugged uncomfortably. “If it was seen, I suppose, I just can’t think of a rider willingly doing something of the sort. Maybe someone was mistaken and jumping to conclusions. At any rate, I doubt the killer was unaided. If they were just the knife that delivered the blow, they might not even be important. Or at least not as important as the masterminds. As for who helped them…” She made a vague gesture with one hand to Orlina. “Perhaps they’re got friends in low places.”
She cocked her head at Kleos. “Why do anything so debased to make you Holdless to begin with?” she prompted rhetorically.
