nyx queen of darkness Aella's vision swam as she tried to pay attention to what was going on ahead of her. The world seemed to shift and sway of it's own volition as she tried to stagger forward. She could feel the desert that was once her mouth aching for water. But she'd been without before, she'd lived in the desert with her people...with Memory. But that's how she knew that this was worse than just thirst, worse than just injuries when her sister--her dead sister seemed to be standing before her asking her what was wrong. The voice asked it over and over again, and the lush scenery had faded into desert. This wasn't right....this wasn't. -[The Spoof]- Ara was strolling along, keeping an eye out for exotic plants, rock fragments, and other things she could use to make sculpture. There'd been a dry spell lately and her cave was begging to have new items added to it. Though she'd encountered no inspiration lately, that didn't mean she shouldn't be prepared should it strike. Bending to examine a plant, she heard something coming through the foliage towards her and looked up. A mare with bright red hair was coming towards her, stumbling and with a glazed over look in her eyes. Ara took a step forwards in concern, wondering if the other mare was alright. "Are you okay?" she asked hesitantly, "What's wrong?"

nyx queen of darkness Why was Memory asking her those questions? Of course she wasn't okay. "You're dead!" Her voice was ripped from her as she felt herself fall to the ground, the scent of blood and dirt in her nostrils. Why were the dead talking? Why did she have to be haunted no matter what? Was there never any peace? Her eyes looked up at Memory, but the longer she stared the more it faded away into too bright colors. "Who are you? She whispered barely keeping her eyes open. -[The Spoof]- Ara slowly moved closer to the now obviously disoriented mare, hoping that she wasn't about to be attacked or something. At the exclamation, she lurched back but then quickly reversed as the red mare fell to the ground. Her feathers ruffled up in her agitation and she took a moment to resettle her wings. "My name is Aresenciel, but you can call me Ara. Are you okay? What happened to you?" she questioned slowly so as not to startle. Bending over to take a closer look at a couple of the wounds she could easily see, she was ready to spring back at any moment in case the wounded soquili were to regain her feet.

nyx queen of darkness "Where is Memory? She was here...she's dead." She could feel a sob caught in her throat. "Are you here...to take me to her? Is this it?" She could feel the sting in her eyes, the burn of pain in her chest. Would it be so bad to join her sister? To join him whom she'd sacrificed everything for. "Pleas--" Her words cut off as she faded into oblivion -[The Spoof]- Growing more and more alarmed with every word spoken, Ara could only stand there silently as the other mare spoke. Before she could deny that anyone was going to be dying today, the mare fainted. "Well...now what?" she wondered aloud, slightly panicky. For a moment, she was blank, nothing would come to her searching mind. There had never been a situation like this back home, random strangers coming up and fainting at her feet, she mused absently. With a shake of the head, she decided to simply look for any life threatening wounds. The day was not hot, the mare was already in shade, and Ara didn't want to mess with her while she was unconscious. Too much risk that she might be making something worse. So, she settled in to wait for the mare to wake. If it the blackout lasted for too long she'd start to think of how to get water into her and beyond that, what to do with her. Looking closer, she couldn't find anything beyond scratches and cuts; painful but not fatal. She cleaned them as best she could. "Wake up soon..." she mumbled, concerned.

nyx queen of darkness Aella surfaced again from a bit of dellirium. She let out a low cough and shoved the hair back from her face. "Who are you?" She croaked out. "Where's some water? Do you know healing?" Her mind was clicking in familiar circles. She'd been bit by a snake, enough poison on her leg to make her sick but not lethal. It explained what had happened and what she had seen over the past few days. "Bite, on leg. I need water." She pulled her legs together under her. "Please, I need your help. I'm...Aella." -[The Spoof]- As the mare stirred back into wakefulness, this time much more coherent, Ara slumped slightly in relief. She truly had no idea what to do in this situation. Never before had she found herself with the need for healing skills, art was not usually dangerous in her experience. As a foal, her and her siblings would get into scrapes but never anything that they couldn't shake off in moments. This was out of her element, but she would do her best. "I'm Ara, and no. I don't know any healing. I can help you with water at least. There's a clean spring not far from here, and I can offer you shelter for as long as you need it." she replied. Huh, a bite on the leg. That's what those marks were, she'd thought it was some kind of bite and now felt stupid for not coming up with snake sooner...weren't you supposed to suck the venom out or something? "Follow me, there's water over here."

Aella stumbled along on her feet and pushed back her hair. Her mouth felt so dry, and her limbs heavy. The venom had some horrid side effects but nothing too bad. A few days rest, some herbs, and bandaging would help a lot.
When they reached the water, Aella dipped her muzzle into the water. For a long minute, she let the water drip down her throat despite the need and desire to guzzle it. She didn't want to overwhelm her system so she forced herself to drink slowly.
"Thank you, your help." Aella took a deep steadying breath. "I didn't mean to alarm you."

Ara hovered nervously around the mare who still didn't look to be feeling very good. She couldn't help but wonder what had led to this situation and her mind drifted away briefly. What adventure had Aella found that had had this result.
"It's no problem. What kind of a person would I be if I left someone so clearly in trouble to fend for themselves? And don't worry about it, you scared me a bit but only because you looked like death warmed over at first." she replied.
Silence reigned for a moment as Ara contemplated the type it would take to ignore someone who was injured and delirious stumbling in their path. It was a troubling thought, and she changed the subject, "How did this happen to you anyway? You said something about a snake bite..."

Aella closed her eyes for a moment again, thinking about the desert and search that had taken her out there. Memory...precious memory...but each time it had failed. She would not think about it.
"I was looking for something," she said gently. "I didn't find it, and I got bit out in the desert. I wandered back without finding what I was looking for. I hated to leave." She closed her eyes again a moment, "I was close. At least, I think I was. But I couldn't stay out there without water with that bite any longer, so I had to come back."
She looked up at the brightly coloured girl. "I'll be alright after some rest and water and herbs. It just...takes it's toll." She took note of the girl's lovely wings, the way they shifted with mesmerizing colour. "You're a good, not all others are. Believe me, I've met my share."

Ara gazed off into the distance, "That's sad, don't you think? That there are those out there that would let someone suffer needlessly when it would cost them nothing to help." she frowned.
Her wings shifted of their own volition and she briefly flared them before settling them down against her sides once more. A thought occurred to her then, as she watched a stray feather float to the ground.
"Well. Would it help if you had someone help you look for whatever it is you're looking for?" she asked, smiling hopefully.

Aella laughed delicately, "You'd think that wouldn't you? But kindness isn't a strong suit in everyone. You are blessed to be as you are, kind."
She paused as she listened to the girl's offer, "I'm afraid it's not something so much s someone I wish to find. The rumors are that they're gone, all of them. So what I left behind, will remain forever buried in the sands." Her voice broke for a moment, "But thank you for your offer. It's good to hear a genuine offer from the heart, I wish that I could have you help me...But that time is past." She turned her tired eyes to her again, the dull ache in her heart beginning again.

Ara could see the pain in the other mare's eyes, and wracked her mind for some way to help. The seeming hopelessness of Aella's situation made her frown in empathy.
"I don't believe that, I think if you just keep trying you'll find what - or who it is you're looking for." she said softly.
Stepping up closer to the other mare, she leaned her body against her in a brief offer of comfort and support.
"My offer stands, if you ever decide you need or want help, even just some company...I would be glad to provide it." she murmured, ending the contact and stepping back again.

Aella smiled again at the sense of familiarity, the warmth of contact. It reminded her of her sister. Just another thing lost to her...lost with everything else. "Thank you," she sighed.
If only help were so simple, if only life were so easy that a kind word could transform everything and change the bad. But that was not the way of life. Life was unfair, unkind, cruel...It didn't matter who you were.
It was impartial.
"Thank you, if you could help. I would accept it gladly, but you are doing all you can."

Ara frowned. All she could? That was too bad, because there was a lot she felt she could do. She opened her mouth to argue, but closed it. Perhaps Aella was right, maybe there wasn't anything else she could do and that made her sad.
"That's too bad. What is it exactly that you are looking for anyway? If you don't mind my asking that is..." she trailed off, hoping she hadn't offended Aella.
It was not often she felt such a need to assist someone, but something just screamed sadness and hopelessness at her from the other mare. Aella seemed nice, and Ara felt they could be good friends. She didn't have many, staying mostly with her family until now. A selfish part of her could sense adventure waiting beyond this connection she had found, and she was searching for something to bring meaning to her life and her work. Her work was her life, but she needed new experiences to continue to grow and make her art even more beautiful.
Adventure would certainly hurry her along that path to growing in experience. That said, she did truly want to help the other mare. Not just for herself but for Aella. The allusions to something permanently lost, but that she kept searching for anyway bespoke of a tragic story and Ara hoped there was still a way for her to have a happy ending.

Aella closed her eyes. The other mare wanted to know what it was that made her seem so hopeless. What would she say exactly that covered it all? She had gone to look in the desert for the home of her people, but try as she might she could not find her old herd.
She had thought time had dimmed her memory, and she had looked over and over again for her old home. It wasn't there though. The sands of time and memory had drifted over it until it was covered like an artifact in old ruins. It was then that she learned that there had been a fire since her exile.
She had left home freely, never allowed to return because of her love for an outsider. When he faded from her like a dream in daylight, she was left trying to grab a hold of it over and over again. But no matter what she did, it was gone forever--he was gone.
And now, the knowledge that there was no more village or people in the desert. There was no more sister Memory...it seemed as though truly none had survived it.
She felt the tears stinging the backs of her eyes, "I was looking for the past." Glistening paths fell down her face without her notice.

Ara watched the other mare as she began to cry with a feeling of helplessness. It was frustrating to know that nothing she did would help, though she sidled up next to her again and leaned into her to try to wordlessly offer comfort.
Perhaps, Ara thought, Aella did not want help. Maybe this was a quest that she was allowing only herself to be part of, because there was something deeper to it. Whatever the reason it was clear she would get no other answers from the reticent mare so she decided to simply offer her support.
"Don't cry, I'm sure things will turn out okay in the end. If you keep working at it you're bound to hit on something eventually!" she said quietly, trying to inject cheer into her voice.
Cheer was not in her at the moment however, for how hopeless Aella seemed.
