Taking a few steps within the royal line’s compound, Mangue glanced back and forth quickly, making sure that there was no one else around. It probably would’ve made more sense for Amias to head in first, but Mangue was so used to coming here by himself to meet with his friend that he didn’t even think twice about it. “I assume we’re headed to your room.” Stepping lightly, he spoke in a whisper. Most of the aides in the household knew of his presence, but he still didn’t want to risk a new hire being blindsided by a stranger; he’d only ever been able to pull of the ‘Oh, I work here’ gig once, and he really didn’t feel like risking it now. It really seemed kind of funny – the two of them were forced to behave like un-engaged lovers, who were otherwise unable to be together. Which, in a sense, it really was true. Though Mangue knew that neither of them held any form of romantic interest in each other. Of course, Mangue would always tease, because he knew better than anyone of Amias’ ‘ladykiller’ ways.

Following his friend cautiously, it almost felt a little wrong sneaking around like this. Ah, the memories it brought back. When he was young, Amias was probably the most well-hidden rebel that the Makini has ever seen. As he grew, though, the fact quickly became less and less of a secret, and even the public knew of the ‘devil-heir’ that they could expect. For a good part of it, he had only done it for fun, but he soon saw that the future that awaited him was something that he wanted nothing to do with. “Well, of course. Where else would we go?” Laughing a little under his breath, Amias followed his friend up the winding branches, until he could finally see the entrance to his own quarters. He had long ago asked that the guards be removed from the door, as he would previously frequently return home in a fit of rage.

Lifting the large leaves away from the entrance, Mangue held them open with his tail as he entered. The room was just how it had always been, upon every visit – the floor was made of tightly-woven leaves, layer upon layer compact to hold a mass of weight. Amias’ bed was off in a corner; a giant pile of the softest leaves and flower petals, replaced monthly to retain its ‘plush’ feel. The walls were mostly branches that had been pulled and fastened together, with a small opening on one side that served as a window. Next to the window, there stood a large wooden bowl, carved out to serve as a constantly-filled water dish. It was amazing, really. Mangue had always envied Amias’ life, mostly because of this room right here. But growing up, he had come to stay in it more and more frequently, that it almost felt like his own. Trotting quickly over to Amias’ bed, Mangue plopped himself down, lounging sideways as he stared at the Petite Dauphin. “So, my friend. I believe you had some explaining to do.” Grinning at him, he was overly curious about all the things that went on when Amias ventured to the ‘outside.’ Mangue himself had never even seen it, staying well within the Makini all his life.

Pausing for a moment at the door, it almost felt like time had skipped, going right back to where he was not so long ago. Part of it felt nice, but there was this small part of him that was kicking at him, wondering if any of his outburst really mattered at all. But, as long as things were good, then there really was no reason to question it. He was back where he belonged, and that was the end of that argument. “Alright, alright.” Falling into his bed next to Mangue, Amias’ words were a bit muffled as his face was covered by petals. “Where do I begin? Let’s see….well, for starters, the outside world isn’t really what we thought it was. I mean, there were some really stupid lions and such out there, but it wasn’t really all that bad.” He grinned looking back on the fights he seemed to always get into with strangers – it was his bad personality, and his lust for violence that had really started them all. If he hadn’t been trained since birth in the ways of fighting and defense, then he knew he wouldn’t have stood a chance at all. “And then the girls – Mangue, you don’t know what you’ve missed being stuck in here. I mean, Makini girls are great and all, but there’s just something so…spicy about the girls out there. At least, the ones I met.” Giving Mangue a wink, he felt quite embarrassed about his actions. The mere fact that he had been with females on the outside would’ve been a whole other scandal on its own. “Let’s just say that as far as rule-breaking goes, I pretty much took the crown."

Eyes wide with curiosity, Mangue was eager to hear about the outside. He was fairly jealous that he wasn’t able to experience these things with his best friend, but this was close enough for now. “You got into some fights, didn’t you?” Flicking his paw at Amias, the images just filled Mangue’s mind. He knew how violent he could be, and how much of a fighter he was just by blood. They had tag-teamed many times in the past, and it had always been a ride. “Don’t tell me…you had relations with females?! Amias! You sly cat!” Almost jumping up from his lounging position, Mangue tried to keep his voice from flat-out yelling. But he was just so shocked; out of all the rules to break, that one had always seemed quite off-limits, no matter how angry you were. “Oh my gosh! What if your family knew?!” Letting out a laugh, he was still surprised. “Uuuugh, how could you taste a female – multiple females for that matter – without me? Now I’m just ‘poor innocent Mangue.’” Giving Amias a light shove, some of what he said rang true. He was a little jealous that his best friend had experienced such life-changing things, and it made him feel like a little bumpkin.

"Don’t worry, Mangue. Once you’ve married, you’ll know it too.” Looking a little sheepish, he felt rather bad about doing something so explicit. “Or, knowing you, at least engaged. I’ve seen you sneak around, and if you’re really that determined, then it’ll be no time til you experience the same thing.” Taking in a deep breath, the word ‘marriage’ hung heavily in the room. Amias wasn’t entirely sure if he wanted to get married, but he knew that he had to. He had never actually asked Mangue about the issue, either; instead, it had always been Amias complaining about his familial problems, and how he was always forced into things, especially marriage. “But I think that’s a discussion for another time.” Rolling on his side, he put his front paws over his eyes. “Since I don’t think either of us want to think about that right now. For now, I want you to just stay the night, and keep me company."

Married? That seemed too far away. The colony was strict, but Mangue was still a young male, and he still wanted to do things that he couldn’t necessarily do. “Ah, yeah.” Going silent for a moment, he wasn’t sure about the whole marriage thing. Well, living here meant that it was going to happen at some point, but he was still quite nervous about it. Since he had no public family, there was no one to arrange a marriage for him, and that was a big reason why he was still single now. Though, he knew that there had been talks of the royal line selecting a bride for him; it had been deemed acceptable because he had the proper colorings of the nobility, and in private, most of them saw him as one of their own. “I was hoping you’d ask. Your highness.” Teasing him lightly, Mangue burrowed his head into the soft leaves that were beneath him. It felt nice, being like this. In so many ways, Amias was his brother, and this was how he had always thought brothers should be.
